𝐄𝐌𝐌𝐀[female]..[16]..[demi/heterosexual]..[medjack keeper]..[location: maze (new clearing)]..[mentions: tags]..[tags: yvonne, alastair]..────────────────────────────────────────A smile, a bit more forced than anything else, played at Emma's lips at Yvonne's explanation. She supposed it was sweet, even if the last thing she wanted was to have more attention drawn to her.
"Thanks, Yvonne," she murmured yet again. Thankfully for her, her brain decided against obsessing over Yvonne's loose promise. She didn't need to deal with more stressful topics like that, even though she knew there was quite a lot wrong with what was said. As much as she appreciated the Runner, Emma felt relieved when she bounded off elsewhere. However, she wasn't granted her space for long. Alastair soon piped back up.
It wasn't often Emma burst. In fact, it was rare, something spontaneous, even to herself. It was why she felt like crying when the words,
"I'm fine, Alastair, just stop asking," flew from her mouth. They weren't something she had planned, and she knew that this was the devil on her shoulder, the one that had risen from the smoke of anxiety, that was attacking. The words weren't snappy, weren't harsh, just firm, a plea that she really did not want to talk about it. This had been the third time he'd asked, after all. She adored the Builder, but one time was more than enough. Tears did form by her bottom lashes from her unintentional outburst, though, and she looked to the ground, focusing on her dirty shoes as they carried her further and further down the unfamiliar paths of the Maze.
"I'm sorry." This was quiet, even softer than her usual whisper.
"I didn't mean to snap. I'm just..." She inhaled sharply through her nose, raising her head to watch the dark sky. Dangerous grey clouds were skimming by, watching their every move. To be honest, Emma wouldn't have been very surprised if it started pouring right about then.
"The last time I had an attack like this I was able to be alone and cope with it," she continued quietly, looking anywhere but at Alastair.
"And now I'm feeling even more overwhelmed, and claustrophobic, and I can't get it to stop." Her hand went to her chest, which had begun to tighten. With each breath taken, it was a dagger to her ribcage. Her fingers scurried up to the loose pieces of hair around the face, the only thing she could touch and play with to help regulate her breathing.
"And I don't want to talk about it anymore because the more I focus on it, the harder it is to make it stop. So please, Alastair. It's sweet that you care, but one time is enough. I promise I'll come to you if I need help, okay?" Confrontation like this wasn't something she was used to, which was why she felt even more terrified to look him in the eye. Quite honestly, she was surprised that much came out of her, but it had to be from her little incident. Controlled Emma would have never.
She supposed on the more positive side of things, the shakes were beginning to settle. Her chest still stung with each breath taken, and her throat felt as though it had closed right up, but she was more confident about taking steps without worrying about toppling over. Her gaze focused elsewhere, on the large, stone poles that were sticking up around them. Emma had been so focused on attempting to regulate her breathing and stay conscious that she hadn't even realized they'd taken enough turns in the grim maze hallways to take them elsewhere. If the place wasn't so dangerous, the girl may have even considered this location to be beautiful. Of course, it was dark, and the moon was not present, which made the scenario extra creepy, but it was open enough for Emma to actually breathe. She did not complain when she realized the group had slowed, nor did she jump on the train of suspicions. Not yet. For even just a few seconds, she was able to attempt to get herself back under control.

𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐘𝐍[female]..[18]..[demi/bisexual ]..[runner]..[ location: maze (new clearing)]..[ mentions: newt, tags]..[ tags: yvonne, draco, wysteria, bree, kenn]..────────────────────────────────────────If Newt wanted to respond to her, he didn't have much time to speak up, for a new, chirpy voice squeezed its way into the moment. Emersyn turned her head away from the blond, settling her gaze on Yvonne, who had scurried up beside the two of them. She shot a quick glance towards Newt once more, then slowed her pace down by a second so that she was in direct interaction with Yvonne now.
"I guess so," she responded a moment later with the tiniest of shrugs.
"I don't really know what to expect when we open that door. Haven't really had much time to think about it, y'know? Hopefully it's something better than the Glade, but..." Her voice died down and she shrugged once more. Emersyn complained about the Glade and its people often, that wasn't anything new, but in reality, she
was grateful for it. When those doors closed at night, it ensured their safety. It was beautiful, in a weird, mysterious sort of way, and held a sort of liveliness that the Maze failed to grasp, understandably. What
was on the other side of the doors? She didn't expect someone to be waiting there for them, no, but what were they to do after? Where were they do go? Was there just more of the Maze, a new section they hadn't been able to access before? There was too much to think about for Emersyn to feel completely thrilled. But, even she couldn't deny the bursts of adrenaline that rushed through her veins.
"I think we should go ahead," she continued to Yvonne, slowing her pace even more when they neared the section the Runners had just recently discovered. Although it was dark and hard to see, Emersyn's eyes immediately shot over to the location of her earlier fall. She never did get someone to check that out... Not that she'd see someone regardless.
"Make sure we're still on the right path. I have a feeling we're going the right way, but I'd rather the Runners confirm that before bringing the entire gang with us." She stopped, leaning closer to Yvonne so that only the Runner could hear the next few words.
"And to see if that Griever is still around." She lingered there for a second to meet Yvonne's gaze, allowing the Runner to know that Emersyn was being serious, then stood up straight again. Without waiting for a response, she began backing up.
"Go find the other Runners! Let me get some more help, just in case." Turning, she jogged over to Wysteria and Draco, flicking her wrist to get their attention.
"We're going to take a small patrol out to make sure the exit is where we think it is," she told them, leaving no room for them to ask questions. It was up to them if they wanted to go. She left the two of them, shuffling closer to Bree and Kennedy, echoing her words;
"The Runners are taking a small patrol out before leading everyone there, if you wanted to come." Then, like towards Wynn and Draco, Emersyn left before either could respond, popping herself in a position at the front of the group, a few meters away.

𝐋𝐄𝐄[male]..[18]..[heterosexual]..[builder]..[location: maze (new clearing)]..[mentions: tag]..[tags: bree -> kade]..────────────────────────────────────────Lee continued to walk alongside Bree, his pace irregular, as it seemed the most of the Gladers' were. Excitement and nerves did not do a steady pace justice, that was for sure. He felt calmer now, which was weird, since he'd learned a long time ago - and up to this day, really - to fear the Maze. And yet, here they were. In a way, he felt a bit joyous, for he felt like he was finally experiencing a new part of Dante's life, but he knew that was more of a selfish pride moment than anything else. The Maze was a dangerous place. It was even worse now that they were out in the open with the Grievers. Maybe the Grievers didn't like noise, though. After all, the Gladers hadn't been touched. Lee most certainly was not complaining, but his mind had definitely believed that there would be
something waiting for them around every corner. Nearly a dozen had been taken at this point, and the only thing he saw were more vines and walls.
"Yeah, I feel you there," he agreed.
"Dante used to tell me about it all the time, and sometimes it felt like I was there, but now that I'm here... Eh. I don't know. It's just weird." He shrugged, falling quiet once more. It was a bit of an uncomfortable topic to speak of now that they were in the moment. He was sure that if it made him feel iffy, it definitely made Bree uneasy.
He raised his hand and gave a somewhat lazy farewell wave to Bree as she left his side. He didn't bother asking where she was going now; that wasn't any of his business. For a moment longer, Lee continued to walk silently. However, the silence did him no good. He didn't want to start worrying about stuff, that really messed him up. And so, he edged closer to Kade, a fellow Builder friend of his. Kade was quiet, yes, but conversation was conversation. Lee supposed he had to keep his tone fairly hushed anyway, so it didn't make much of a difference.
"Hey," he quietly called out to Kade.
"How're you feeling about all of this?"━━━━━━━━━━━━━
𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐎[male]..[18]..[demi/bisexual]..[trackhoe]..[location: maze (new clearing)]..[mentions: emersyn, tag]..[tags: wysteria]..────────────────────────────────────────Draco's eyes lingered on Bree for a moment longer, raising his hand in a half-wave as she turned away from him. It was strange, how not a single thought coursed through his mind at that time. Well, for the majority of the situation, anyway. Removing his gaze from everyone else, flashing it to the floor, filled with loose pebbles, he found himself drifting off into his thoughts. For once, he didn't try fighting it.
xx"Mom?" a quiet, quivering voice sounded from behind the door. "Mom, what are you doing in there?"
xxRustling and banging came from the other side of the door. No verbal answer was returned. For a moment, the boy stayed leaned up against the door, thumbs twiddling anxiously as he awaited a response. "Mom?" Still, nothing came. A howl sounded soon enough, sounding nothing like a human, followed by a whimper. Heart rate picking up, the boy began banging on the door. "Mom?
Mom, are you in there?"
xxDarkness filled his vision for a long, long time. He must have fallen asleep, even though his panic, for when he woke up, he was no longer in the arms of someone, but in a white room, so bright that he had to shield his eyes for a moment. A figure walked into the room. He watched her silently.
xx"Hi, dear, welcome to your new home!" A woman with eyes as big as her nose beamed down at him, her smile giddy, in such a way that it seemed a bit terrifying. "I know your poor mom couldn't make it with you, but don't you worry, we'll keep you safe here."
xxThe boy stared up at the enthusiastic woman, his facial expression giving off as much as a stone. "I know why my mom couldn't make it," he mumbled a moment later. "I saw her." Despite saying those words, he couldn't picture her in that moment.
xx"Oh... Oh, don't be silly!" came the chirp, a hand going to his shoulder. "She's just feeling a bit sick, don't you worry. She'll come visit again someday when she is all better! Come now, sweetpea, let's get you settled in. We have lots for you to do."
xxThat woman and her... "Hey, are you okay?" came a feminine voice, different from the voices that filled his head just seconds earlier.
Blinking once, Draco snapped out of the daze he'd worked himself into. Staring blankly, he looked around, as if he hadn't a clue where he was. Large, intimidating walls the colour of charcoal and dusty brown were no longer crowded around them. Instead, they were in a much more open spot. He was quick to take notice of the breeze which had picked up. The Gladers still seemed to want to comfortably huddle around one another. He blinked once more, then turned his head to this left, where Wysteria was standing. She was staring at him with a kind expression present in her gaze; she was waiting for him to answer her.
"Could be better," he answered gruffly, dipping his head towards her.
"You?" His expression fell blank once again at her comment, and he looked elsewhere.
"Yeah... You will be." Those words physically hurt his throat. Draco was used to lying for protection, he'd done it from the moment he'd arrived in the Glade, but it felt different now, knowing his friends were so unprepared for what they were about to face. He felt a shiver race up his spine as his mother's ill face clouded his vision once more. Blood for tears, lips as pale as the earl grey tea she had heated up for him earlier that day. Thankfully, Emersyn came over to the two of them before he could fall back into a state of emotional distress. His dark eyes flickered back over to Wynn, and he quirked a brow.
"Better than waiting around, I guess," he said once the Runner was gone, but his words were wobbly, hesitant. Draco did not at all like where this was going, but he wasn't going to pass down the offer now. Not that it was really an offer in the first place. Rubbing his lips together, he took two tiny steps forward, then glanced back at Wynn once again.
"Are you going, too?"
