Comet wrote:Comet thought of all that Sky had said and sat on the ledge, her survival instinct battling with her desire to know more of her own kind. The thought that she wasn't all alone in this world of humans was a daunting and beautiful one to her. But there was one problem. "I want to meet these other hybrids...but how will I know where to go?" she asked, wary of the words she chose. She knew that if these meetings had been going on for awhile then the hybrids must have found a perfectly secluded spot to go unnoticed. Besides, Comet was accustomed to living on the streets alone. How was she going to cope with being around so many others? These problems buzzed around in her mind as she clawed at the wood cill restlessly. Suddenly a thought popped into view at the edge of her conciousness and grew so quickly that she had no chance to push it away before she started seeing it as a possibility. What if I were to stay with him?...she thought to herself hesitantly, not at all sure if she could trust the man before her. But that didn't seem to matter so much when she thought of the possibility of her lonliness ending forever! What if...what if I just stayed with him until the gathering was over? It would only be a few days and then I could go from there once I have met others of my kind. The more she thought about it the more it sounded possible. But then reality struck and her hopes were dashed in an instant. Why would he let me stay with him? I'm a crazy hybrid freak who almost killed his cat and broke into his house for god sakes. He has no reason to trust me...and yet...he acts as if he cares... More and more thoughts built up until it got to the point where she was just confusing herself. Shaking her head, she waited for the older hybrid to answer her question as she tried to build up the courage to ask him to let her stay.
~~~~~~Sky~~~~~~
Sky listened to the female's response and almost laughed.
How will she know where to go? I thought I had made it clear that I would take her there. Maybe not though... Reflecting back on the circumstances, Sky began to understand the situation a little better.
She broke into my house, more or less, and it was not because I am a hybrid...she seemed quite surprised about that fact actually. She also didn't know of any other hybrids, though her parents must be hybrids. More than likely this female has been without them for quite some time. Perhaps without anyone. If she had been living most of her life as an animal, like a few chose to do on the Island, she may be very unused to human contact. I already knew she didn't seem very trusting. At that point the misunderstanding does make sense. I need to make my offer more clear. But how far am I willing to go here? If she is on her own...where will she stay before I bring her to the gathering? It isn't happening until the weekend. Though Sky tossed the idea around in his head for a few seconds longer, his mind was basically made up. He knew the female hybrid needed to meet more of her own kind, and her interest in such a meeting was a very good sign. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if she stayed in a shelter or worse...on the streets...until the meeting.
Finally he decided upon a reply. She looked expectant, but also a bit nervous. He hoped his slight delay in responding hadn't worried her too much.
"I can take you to the meeting with me if you would like. I usually fly there in my hawk form. Since you also have a hawk form you shouldn't have a problem keeping up. I leave tomorrow...it takes over a day to fly all the way to Niagra Falls, where we meet. Until then though, assuming you want to come...do you have a place to stay?" He tried to avoid questions about her parents or how she lived just yet. If she hadn't wanted to state her name she surely wouldn't want to reveal too much about her life just yet. He couldn't assume she lived on her own but something about her just led him to that conclusion. Still, he would wait for an answer before he offered her a place to stay.
Comet wrote:Storm said nothing in return to her brother's efforts to cheer her up and sighed as she let him lead her into the school. She said a quick goodbye to him as she turned away to find her first class. Pulling out her schedual, she felt accutely aware of the tiger tail beneath her jeans and the wolfish ears under her hat. Once she finally found her first class, she strode into language to find a wrinkled old lady standing at the board. "Thats Miss Keller?!" she exclaimed to herself under her breath. One of the preppy kids walked up to the woman and she burst into fits of cackleing that made Storm want to cover her ears, which could unfortunatly pick up 10 times more what any normal human's ears could. "She sounds like a dieing witch!" she muttered to herself again, far too low for a human to hear. Suddenly the old hag that was her new language teacher turned to her with a scowl. "Take your hat off!" she barked, gesturing to storm's "life is good" hat. "You are inside a public school and its very rude!" Storm could see that this year was going to be just awsome with this particular teacher. She did her best to repress the smart retort that had been trying to force its way out and instead replied in a respectful voice, "I am sorry Miss Keller but I would really rather keep it on." The woman screwed up her face some more and strode over to Storm until she was less than an inch from her face. "I don't care what you want! Take it off!" she yelled, spewing little drops of spit onto the hybrid's face. Storm grit her teeth and took a step back as she wiped her face off with her sleeve. "I am right here mam. I can hear you. There is no need to yell." she couldn't resist saying. "There is no rule in the handbook that says that I can't wear a hat inside the school." She knew because she had checked with her mother and father before leaving that morning. "Well this is MY classroom and you have to go by MY rules. I do not appriciate your tone little missy! Do what I say or get out of my class room!" the woman hissed. That did it. Storm's eyes glinted dangerously and her voice lowered with a distinct edge to it. "So let me get this straight. You are going to kick me out of your class because I am wearing a hat?" she said, just managing to keep the growl out of her voice. She breifly considered shifting wolf right then and scaring the crap out of this abnoxious teacher but knew how much trouble she would be in when she got home if she did. "I know you think you're all big and bad because you get to push around kids for a living but I am very sorry to tell you that this is one kid who won't stand by and take it." Pulling her hat down more firmly on her head, she stalked back to the back row of the desks and sat down, almost hoping that the teacher would challenge her again. But the woman just narrowed her eyes and slinked back to her desk (ah, the things I would like to say to the real mrs. keller).
Storm was asked to take her hat off many times throughout that day but Miss Keller was the only one she had to argue with about it. All the others just said it in passing and didn't really care when she refused. Finally lunch time came around and she walked into the large cafiteria with her lunch box in hand, looking around for the one person she knew at this dang school. But Blaze was no where to be seen so she sat down at an empty table. "Maybe he's just late" she said hopefully, not wanting to sit alone once again. Unfortunatly for her, she didn't have to. "Well hey there Miss Priss! Did you miss us over the summer?" said one of the three boys that sat themselves down next to her. The speaker was a tall, muscular jock with absolutly no human compassion what so ever, let alone brains. "Back off Bane" she said tiredly, not looking up from her plate. He was sitting so close that if she looked up their noses would touch. The guy ignored her and motioned to his two buddies, who were really nothing more than his back up and had even fewer brains than he did. "What did you get us for lunch today?" he sneered as his friends picked up the lunch tray. "And where's your brother? Still not in the same lunch? Awww...pitty. We could use the extra food." Storm grit her teeth and kept from socking Bane in the face only by picturing what would happen if these kids dared to mess with Blaze. Bane grinned when he heard her teeth grind together. "Alright boys. Time to go talk with danny now. This crap won't keep us full for long. Really Priss, you should get us pizza next time", he said before sauntering off. Oh yes, this was going to be a wonderful school year.
~~~~~~Blaze~~~~~~
Blaze headed to his first class. It was art, Blaze's favorite class. It didn't give too much homework, and the homework it did give was fun. He liked being able to express himself in a new way and in Art 1 the students got to work with many different mediums. This year, in Art 2, they would delve more deeply into some of the mediums and explore new, more advanced ones. He wasn't sure what this would entail, but he was excited. At least it wasn't math, his worst subject. It was just too straightforward and confined. There was no creativity. Even in English he could find some way to express himself, but in math that just wasn't true. Unfortunately math was his fourth period, one of the longest periods because all of the lunch shifts occurred during that class. As Blaze entered his art classroom the teacher smiled at him. It was the same one he had had last semester and she liked his artistic style.
This year seems like it will be pretty good, especially with an awesome start like this every day. He smiled as he greeted a few of the classmates he knew from Art 1, then settled down to receive the syllabus and learn about how the class would progress that year.
Finally, as much as he wanted to avoid it, it was time for math. He cringed as he walked into his Algebra 2 classroom. Almost immediately he noticed the teacher. Mrs. Harris was the teacher on his schedule but this male teacher sure wasn't her. A few minutes into the class brought the answer to his question. Mrs. Harris was pregnant and had gone into labor the day before. She planned to be out on maternity leave for the next semester at least. The male teacher was Mr. Davidson and just the name sent a shiver up Blaze's spine. Though he had never had the teacher himself, Blaze had heard horror stories of Mr. Davidson's classes. He was tough and his teaching methods were...difficult at best. Very few of Blaze's friends felt they had learned in Mr. Davidson's class and most had suffered a hit in their GPA as a result of his harsh grading. He never gave partial credit on tests. Never. Blaze sighed. This would be a long year after all.
Forty-five minutes later Blaze walked into the cafeteria. Quickly looking around he spotted his sister at a table not far away and headed over with his own packed lunch.
"Hey, looks like we do have lunch together this year! Sorry I'm late, my new math teacher, Mr. Davidson," began Blaze, shooting Storm a pointed look as he said the name of his teacher, knowing she would no doubt recognize it,
"held me after class. He wanted to discuss my low marks in my previous math classes. He wants me to get a tutor...says I won't be on the right level for math in college if I don't." Blaze said this with annoyance, having no interest in getting a tutor or doing any extra work outside of class. Glancing over at Storm's lunch box he quickly added,
"Wow sis, you eat fast! You had a full lunch, right?" He wondered if somehow part of her lunch had been left at home. He'd only been at most five minutes late. But of course, he wasn't too concerned. He knew Storm's wolf and tiger sides could scarf down food with the best of them, especially the morning after a shift. He began unpacking his own lunch as he waited for her to respond.
Comet wrote:Lyra nodded as Asher spoke and she dropped onto the couch with him. "I know. I'm sorry. I'm just worried about them is all." she said, burying her face into Asher's shirt. She thought of her children again and wondered how they were doing in their new school. "Well saturday is the gathering...." she said, her voice trailing off. "Do you think its time to intoduce them to more of their kind?" she asked, thinking of Ryker and Talon and Sadie...all the people she grew to know and love in the struggles she endured with them.
~~~~~~Asher~~~~~~
Asher smiled as Lyra sat down with him, holding her close. After all these years he felt closer to her than ever and that feeling was only heightened on the night of a shift. It brought back memories of the Island, about their beginnings as a couple. The story of their meeting wasn't exactly one they could tell to their work friends but their children loved hearing about it and the memories still brought a wide smile to Asher's face. He knew Lyra was concerned about the kids. He was too. But right then, right that minute, things just seemed so perfect, so right. Their kids were growing up into fine young people and the meeting was coming up. He was excited to see old friends. And meet new ones...most of the others were going to be bringing their kids this time. Asher had never met any of children and none of the others had met Blaze or Storm.
"I think it's the perfect time. I know before we were worried that they would grow too attached. The others live so far away...that could only cause problems. And a few of the adults are a bit...colorful. But they are 16 and 17, they'll be adults soon. They're ready. And this time most of the others will be bringing their kids. It's funny how we all decided, almost at the same time, that it was time to get the second generation involved. A few of the second gens are the same age as Blaze and Storm. Just think, they'll finally have others to relate to, besides just each other." He looked over at his wife, kissed the top of her head, and then asked the question that had entered his mind when she questioned the readiness of the children.
"Are you nervous?" In all honestly, Asher was a little nervous himself. These other second gens could be a bad influence on Blaze and Storm. And even if they weren't, his kids would most likely grow very close to these other teens with so much in common to themselves. Possibly even too close... He knew neither had ever really had a serious relationship. But relationships started so easily on the Island, where they all met others just like themselves. Would it be the same for his children? Now that they would have others they could really be themselves around. He wasn't sure he was prepared for that. His protective father instincts were still as strong as ever, and very concerned. But still, it was time. Somehow he was sure of it.
((I'll post for Kyle, Cole, and Starr soon. I think someone had made a 3rd kid for Kyle and Randi...does anyone know if that character will be coming back?))
