Sandra drew her sword and held it out in front of her. "While I can agree that our Fleet Admiral is…not the most agreeable man on the planet, at least WE don’t step outside the law. We stand for justice, and it’s you pirates who impede that justice," she insisted. She twisted her hips to slash towards the young woman in response to the experimental attack.

"No, he was rough, but this wasn’t the first time he’d done it. He knew exactly what he was doing, and what the outcome would be. Either we succeeded and worked through things, or we were too weak to make good Marines in the first place. Helmeppo whined a lot at first, but we got through it. Garp wanted to train us in such a way that we’d never let ANYTHING bother us. I guess the doctors are kinda trying to undo that here, but if not for the doctor's orders…well I was trained in such a way that I wouldn't HAVE to stop just because of some stupid burns. Garp was tough on us, but only because he cared. We…" Coby smiled the tiniest bit, looking down. "We were his second chance."

Admittedly, Coby fully intended to push Linkk and push him HARD, but he would gauge the boy's limits. Garp had pushed him and Helmeppo when they were so sick or hurt they could barely stand. It had done them good, but he himself would stop a LITTLE before that. Enough to toughen the kid up without breaking him down first entirely. Would Coby be pushing Linkk when he was at his worst? No. That would be cruel. Would he push when Linkk wasn’t at his best? As long as he can still stand and move, he can learn. I’ll have to be tough on him in a lot of ways, and maybe one day he'll resent me for it, but it’s all because I want to see him succeed.

While many Marines— Coby himself included after the Marineford incident, although it had been a momentary thing rather than bloodlust— were afraid of Admiral Sakazuki, and Coby would rather avoid anywhere he was if at all possible, he was a division Captain, an able body in a fight, and the higher ups— and oh boy the self-blame it would’ve led to— would never forgive him if he was able to fight and had locked himself away.
