Karter grinned. "Thanks!" He chirped. He traced that on the invisible map too, considering that carefully. "Actually that helps." The brunette bit his lip, tracing the entirely of the map to commit it to memory. If they had the chance to stage an early breakout, they’d be fine if they tried to take it. He doubted the chance would present itself, but even so, it was of some comfort.

Micah shrugged, leaning back against the wall with the hint of a smile. "Not so bad. Kinda bored since we're not actually GOING anywhere, and since the Marines left already, there’s not really much to be looking out for or much to do." She swept her hair back behind her ear.

Devin stepped into the mess hall late and took up her tray, scanning for an open seat. Finally she flicked back dirty blond hair and walking over to a table where only two officers were seated. "Hey, you boys mind if I sit with you? Doesn’t look like there’s many empty seats." She was sure she recognized them from her own division, but since she was a relatively new transfer from a smaller base, then from Shadowtown, she was still getting used to people. Really the only person she’d spent much time with was Anya, who was often now occupied with the man who seemed to be her boyfriend, or something of the sort, and she had no interest in intruding on some romantic conversation and be ultimately a third wheel.

The sweet but stubborn woman nodded as she looked at the other woman. "You're welcome," she said to the other dark haired woman. She watched her drink it, then held out her hand. "Do you want anymore, or should I take this to the sink?"

The sweet and gentle but stubborn and fiery child giggled a bit as she looked at him. "I love dogs!" she said, then made a small sound. "I...don't think I ever asked what animals are your favorites, so...What animals do you really like?" she asked.

The boy smiled at the dog then at the older boy, and shrugged. He said "I mean, I don't really know; like I said, Coby and Lucian are the ones I know best. Neither of them seemed to have anyone. Helmeppo probably didn't have anyone, and Anya didn't, so they fell in love I suppose."

The gray eyed black haired male hummed a bit, then nodded. He made a small sound, saying "I...hadn't really thought of work. I wanted to work with animals when I was younger, so maybe that. If we ever stop being needed as marines, but that's hard to imagine. Housing...I could live in a townhouse, but a house at some point would be nice. I...kind of want kids, I mean I do want kids. If you want them too, we'd have to adopt. Pets would be nice, but I've got Shiana, though she's not exactly a pet."

"I’ll be okay for now." Kass smiled again, and this time it seemed perhaps a LITTLE more genuine than the one before. "So...do you think I’ll be okay? I don’t know much this lead poisoning thing, and even though the bullet's out, there could still be traces in my blood. Do you think...it’ll be problematic?" That was really her main worry. That even though Quin had done what she could to minimize damage, it wouldn’t end it altogether. It doesn’t matter. As long as I’m no longer at risk of actually DYING, then that’s really what counts. She reminded herself. It’d SUCK to have gone out that way. When she’d become a pirate, she’d prepared for the fact that it might one day lead to her death, but she’d always assumed if that was the case, she’d die directly in combat, not because of chemical poisoning.

"And what about you, kiddo?" Sure, the guy was only a year or two younger than him, but he had a childlike energy to him that was somehow refreshing and relieving. "You have anyone?"

The idea of raising a family of their own one day would be tricky, with both of them being in a line of work where their survival wasn’t guaranteed in the long-term. However, he liked to imagine. He had never thought about relationships, much less kids, but the affection he held towards those younger than him...he couldn’t deny it. They were growing up, they had to make calls like that eventually. "Yeah..." he smiled softly. "I think I’d
like that at some point too."

She slowly stood up, stretching briefly, though her bad arm was QUITE sore. "I know you’ve stitched it up, but is there any kind of painkiller? Just...Just to numb the discomfort? Call me a coward if you like, but it’s annoying to be in discomfort for someone who has to draw regularly as part of her job."

Had they actually put those words out there before? Kass didn’t quite remember, her mind was fuzzy, but it still brought heat to her cheeks at the words. She’d never found herself truly in LOVE before. She flirted, she joked around, in the past she’d had a couple casual relationships that never lasted long or went very far. She hoped this wouldn’t be like that. When Quin returned with the painkiller for her, she gladly took it, a couple minutes and it started to dull down the effects enough her head cleared enough to think properly. She stepped forward and gently kissed her girlfriend, holding it only a moment before pulling back. "Well guess what? I love you too."

No money was needed there. "Luc..." Coby reached forward and kissed his fiancé's forehead firmly, reaching up to run his fingers through the young man's dark hair. "If...If I was to...to die early...I would never ask you to deny yourself the chance to fall in love again. If you found yourself falling for someone else, I would only want you to be happy, whatever that means. Whether I’m here, or not, your happiness is my priority, okay?" He couldn’t even fathom the idea of Lucian dying, he didn’t want to. At the moment, that was less of a risk than he himself being lost, but it was still something they always had to keep in mind in their profession.

In all honesty, the idea made Helmeppo a bit nervous. He knew how to teach a group, with some guidance on where to start, but working with a specialized training style? That was beyond what he had any kind of experience with. One could only GAIN experience by experimenting and trying, but it didn’t feel fair to be experimenting with a young recruit's own training.

The boy blinked when the other male spoke to him, and he ducked his head a moment. He found himself blushing, and shook his head. He waited a moment, then raised his head once more. "I, um...yeah," he said, not actually sure how to respond to that much better.

At the feeling of Quin seeming to be trying to pull her closer, Kass was more than glad to oblige. Perhaps her usual flirtatious and playful streak wasn’t as strong as normal in the moment, but it most certainly didn’t mean that she didn’t feel excitement and joy in the moment from the closeness to her partner. "I know I should’ve said it sooner since it’s been a while now, but sometimes it just... takes a while to understand what the feeling of love really is."

Nothing to start off a connection- hopefully one that would remain a relatively friendly one, though he half worried that perhaps if they spent much time together he could come to see the boy as a GENUINE friend- quite like friendly teasing.

"We save up and we'll eventually have enough we can get a place of our own and live off-grounds, not have to share one cramped little space with three dozen other guys. That’d be nice." It didn’t bother Coby much anymore, even if some of their roommates snored or stayed up late. Coby wasn’t exactly one to go to sleep early, preferring to occupy himself with sticking his nose in a book until he couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore, but still. "Oh I don’t want to die either, and I’m not expecting I will. I just...I know our kind of work can be really dangerous, and I know that sometimes I can be reckless, charge headfirst into things when a situation calls for it, and that’s...not really something I can help. Sometimes Helmeppo has to physically restrain me so I don’t do something stupid. I just sometimes worry that eventually my streak of good luck will come to an end. Hopefully not for a very long time to come. Humans can live to be 140, y'know. Who knows? When I’m eighty, maybe I’ll still be as vigorous and energetic as I am now!" Coby gently nuzzled his partner. "I don’t want either of us to die, because I love being alive and being able to make a difference, and even more, I love you so much. I guess I’m just saying..." Coby trailed off, hesitating. He meant it, but that didn’t necessarily mean it would be easy for someone else to process. "I guess I’m just saying that if for some reason something WAS to happen to me, I’d always want you to be happy, and if that meant falling in love with someone else somewhere down the road and being happy with him, then that would be what I’d want for you. Obviously though..." he tightened his arms around his partner and pecked his cheek. "I want to keep you as long as I can."

On time for if not early for everything, and even at times like this, when there was nothing to do, he always had found SOMETHING to do with himself instead of sitting around in the mess hall until someone told him what he was supposed to do. Heh. Or maybe he and Lucian just snuck off for some...private time.
