Coby offered a weak smile. Then he went off with the doctor who beckoned to him. He removed his shirt and jacket for the doctor to take a look at the wound, now unbandaged. The stitches were in good enough condition, but the doctor quickly deduced that the muscles in the nearby area to the wound were NOT in good condition. Everything on the surface was fine. Muscles and tendons, not so much. Coby bit his lip so hard he almost drew blood. I keep saying I’m not going to run around on duty, but...that’s how it’s always been. I work. I enjoy what I do...maybe for once I should listen. The wound was re-dressed. He yanked his shirt and jacket back on. Then he returned to Lucian. "Okay okay, I’m back now."

The doctor raised an eyebrow at Coby as the young man sauntered over, adjusting his jacket uncomfortably on his wounded shoulder, and nodded to him. "Take care of that shoulder, kid. Don’t kill yourself overexerting." Then he returned his attention to his own patient. "Sore throat and cough have already been identified. I think I overheard somethin' about a headache? I'm not sensing any fever. How did you feel when you woke up? Any different than now?"

Would be believe me on it now? A few days ago, I said I did in confusion. Then I said that I didn’t yet. He has no reason to believe what I say on the matter either way. Before the doctor could snatch Lucian's attention away again, Coby took his partner's hands in his own and reached forward to softly kiss him, a proper kiss, holding it just for a moment before putting back and laying his forehead against Lucian's.

"Luc..." Coby's heart had warmed and swelled to hear the words...and that was the exact second he knew. He gently squeezed Lucian's hands. His voice dropped to a whisper. "I love you too, and when I say that, this time, I’m not confused."

This wasn’t abnormal, of course, to catch something, but even so, it was HARDLY ideal. "Do you know when exactly things started feeling a bit off?"
