Eden Beauregard District One Career
Location: Plains --> Camp
Tagged: Careers
Uh oh... Eden smiled nervously when he saw Madeline shaking her fist at the sky. The sight was too familiar, he'd seen it a million times back at the Career Academy. She would sit at the back of the classroom, ignoring the teacher as the lecture dragged on. Then, the moment the teacher called on her... the explosions would start. The worst insults would shoot out of her mouth in a torrential wave. Now, seeing Madeline like this, Eden realized he was approaching an alarm clock winding up. Except there was no snooze button!!
The journey back to camp didn't take long. Despite not paying attention in her classes, Madeline's lessons were surprisingly well-structured and interesting. Eden was certain Licaria was taking notes back in the Capitol.

He returned to camp with a smile. Judging by the wisps of steam coming from the water, Caspia was pretty much done boiling it. Now all he had to do was add the chamomile and they'd have themselves a lovely cup of tea.
A horrible scream snapped him out of his thoughts. Eden whirled around, only to see Chaska trying to comfort his distraught-looking district partner. His hand flew to his mouth as if silencing a cry of horror. Gloria... Gloria looked almost unrecognizable, hysterical and covered in sweat, once-proud blue eyes now bloodshot and wild. Thank heavens Chaska was holding onto her and Caspia stood calmly nearby. That look in Gloria's eyes... she didn't recognize him or Madeline at all. Eden didn't like where this was going.
Caspia's weapon lay at her feet, so Eden took the hint and slowly placed his swords down as well. He locked eyes with Madeline, silently pleading for her to do the same. Please don't do anything rash...
"It's just us, Madeline and Eden. I'm sorry I scared you." Eden spoke gently, keeping his gaze downcast in an attempt to show he wasn't a threat. Right now, in this tortured state, poor Gloria might only understand body language and simple words. It took all the willpower in him to restrain his tears. Although it hurt to see her suffer like this, becoming emotional would make the situation worse.

Sienna Mach-North| D7 |17|Tags:Penny & Felix | loc: east

As Sienna had listened to the boy she loved, she began to grow choked up to the point she couldn’t say anything.“If I don't come back by the time the birds start singing, it means something happened. In that case, take your alliance and go far away.” She mentally reminded herself of his words that seemed to float into the wind like a clever mockingjay song, a lovely bird compared to the moorhen really. Sienna was left there rubbing her cheek trying to keep in contact with the kiss he had given her. It could have been the last and she was a bloody fool for just standing there. She picked up her axe and walked back to the fire taking a deeper breath to keep her composure, it wouldn’t look good cracking like that in front of her alllies. It would just prove the point Sienna had always been a fragile little China doll.

“I think the trail mix is in the bag and please polish it off, I didn’t mean to get sidetracked from fishing. I’ll hopefully try to catch us something big.” She offered while wiping at her eyes, she sat that axe down by Felix and Penny to give them another source of protection.“Are you guys warm enough?” Sienna asked with a tiny sniffle as she wrapped her arms around herself gently as dusk was bound to catch them off guard soon enough.

Caspia Searobin | District 4 | Location: Camp | Tags: Chaska, Gloria, Eden, Madeline|
Gloria barely seemed to notice their responses but as soon as the parachute landed she rushed at it, drawing out a beautiful golden laurel crown.  Caspia watched as the District 2 girl placed that crown atop her head, read the attached note and then dropped, to be caught by Chaska. Her tense muscles relaxed now that Gloria seemed calm but only for a second, the screaming beginning again as soon as Madeline and Eden appeared on the horizon. Thankfully Eden seemed to figure out what was going on and gently placed his swords down, speaking gently to Gloria.
Caspia was at a loss. Her earlier musings about them reaching the end appeared to have been correct. Under ordinary circumstances they'd try to keep Gloria cool and hope her fever broke, or even better they'd give her some kind of antibiotics. But they were in the Games, they wouldn't get a sponsorship of medicine this late in and her fever was unlikely to break before the Capitol audience got bored and another round of mutts was sent after them. No, Gloria wouldn't be participating in their final battles and there wasn't much they could do about it. Still, even if it was Gloria and even if it was her own fault, seeing an ally like this was awful. There was something incredibly wrong in seeing a Career brought to their knees by nothing more than illness.

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location:  Sienna's Campsite | Tags: Penny, Sienna.|
Felix smiled ruefully at Penny's plea for an hour of safety. "Given the circumstances, that probably is too much to ask."
Sienna returned to join them by the fire, after her time latched onto the Career boy, and promptly reassured Penny that it was fine for them to eat the trail-mix. "Don't worry," Felix reassured her in return as she explained that she'd got distracted from fishing, "You don't owe us fish, we're grateful enough that you're letting us stay with you." Despite his words, he was hungry so he rummaged around in the yellow rucksack for a few seconds and drew the trailmix out, taking a handful and passing it along to Penny.
"I'm glad we've got the fire, but I'm not freezing." He responded when she asked whether they were warm enough. For all her questions about his and Penny's wellbeing, Sienna looked a little miserable, though the reason could have been one of many. "Are you warm enough?" He returned her question gently, "You should sit with us until the sun comes up, it'll be easier to fish with the light anyway."

“I don’t mind, the trail mix won’t tie us down forever. Plus we don’t need to become another training statistic when there’s so much left to do.” She said murmuring that last part to herself to give her a tired boost of confidence while standing. Her eyes widened taken a little off guard as she hadn’t realized she zoned out.“I’m fine just- fine. She responded as she sat down across from them by the fire. Sienna glanced over to her drying jacket and blinked away her welling tears. “So what was your favorite things to do back in the districts when it got chilly like this?” The brunette from seven questioned as she pulled herself from the dark claws of Eden’s warning if something went down. If she had to she would only heed it for Penny and Felix’s sake to deliver them to safety before she would turn back for Eden, as much as Garry and the Career from one wanted her to make it home, she wasn’t just about to abandon him to go out alone.

Chaska couldn't help but feel a bit relief when Gloria relaxed a bit in his arms, it gave him a moment to breath. A moment to realize that Gloria was too fevered to realize that she had elbowed his wound and that Caspia had been too far away to notice. A second rush of relief washed over him, better that nobody knew about that. One wounded career was enough to deal with, adding himself to the mix would only draw much needed attention away from his district partner. He was pulled away from his thoughts at the sound of Gloria screaming about mutts again. Lifting his gaze he followed hers towards the edge of camp and was met with the sight of Eden and Madeline returning. He watched with baited breath when Eden seemed to understand what was happening and slowly placed their swords on the ground all while attempting to reassure the fever ridden career. "It's okay Gloria it is just Eden and Madeline, they are coming back from getting supplies for the tea" he murmured softly to his district partner. It was all he could come up with, it was the best his mind could come up and he could only home it would get through to her. Hopefully it would because Eden was much better at this whole comforting thing than he was and they were going to need every bit of comfort his brother could offer.

Demitra Sparks District Three NPC Antagonist
Location: North --> near Careers' camp
Tagged: "Ugh. These disgusting beasts are even worse than the mutts."
Heart pounding, Demitra peeked through the bush at the sleeping mutts. They looked much scarier when still alive. Thick scales plating their bodies like armor, knifelike claws ready to rip and tear, drooling jaws with massive fangs...
Of course, she got cold feet and decided not to approach the mutts for now. Best to find them when they were already awake. If she woke them up now, they'd be too angry at her to even consider redirecting their hunger towards the Careers. So instead, she slunk away, heading for the edge of the forest to spy on those evil murderers.

Demitra crept forward in the grass until the Careers' camp came into view. One of the disgusting lowlifes from District Two was screaming bloody murder, something about mutts. Definitely being overdramatic like all Careers were. Careers weren't human, they had no right to scream even if they were getting mauled. Which they would be soon. I'll give you something to scream about.
Those traitorous fakes were pretending to comfort her. It was all a ruse, Demitra knew exactly what would happen next. Face twisting in disgust, she sprang to her feet and ran back towards the forest. The Careers definitely saw her, but she knew those heartless killers would be more focused on betraying their own ally right now. She could see the gears turning in their primitive minds. While one of them committed treason, the others would find a way to justify it as a so-called good deed. Disgusting. But it happened every time.

Madeline Gomez//District 1//Female//A brat//Tagged; The careers, EW A RAT!

Madeline grimaced as an ear-piercing scream met her ears. She hadn’t expected to return to such a loud scream that almost rivaled one of her own, and she also hadn’t expected it to come from Gloria. She half-expected there to be actual mutts, possibly returning with a thirst for vengeance, but turns out her ally was talking about her and Eden. If it weren’t for the way she looked, Madeline would’ve taken that as an insult!

The stupid girl looked absolutely disgusting, drenched in even more sweat than before. Despite how gross Madeline thought she looked she could feel that dumb feeling crawling back, the same one she felt before she had left with Eden for those flowers. She hated it, she didn’t want to feel these stupid emotions anymore! She wanted to verbally insult Gloria and say that she looked like a rat who had just swam through sewage, but the combination of Eden’s look and the idiotic feeling stopped her from doing so.

She decided to drop her own weapon just like the others had done, placing the fishing spear down as that unknown and rather unnecessary feeling slowly intensified. Madeline still refused to believe that the feeling might be worry, being worried was stupid and she would never worry about a moron like Gloria! She would leave the worrying to the others because she doesn’t get worried!

In an effort to stop the dumb emotion from festering, Madeline decided to look around instead of looking at her gross and sweaty ally. She also just didn’t want to look at Gloria in general. That’s when she saw it, a disgusting rat attempting to spy on them! How dare that vile rodent come close to their camp? That idiotic roach was probably the same one that vandalized their tent!!

“A RAT! A REPULSIVELY IDIOTIC RAT!!” She screamed, pointing directly at the brainless filth that crept among the grass. She watched as the bipedal rat turned tail and ran, seemingly too cowardly to actually take them on. Oh how Madeline wanted to give chase! She still had a list of insults she wanted to throw at that coward, but running off alone would only make her as idiotic as that rat. She didn’t want to die some stupid death just because she chased after an insignificant roach! She would just have to throw the rest of her insults if or when that rat dared to return.

Gloria shook her head rapidly. "NO THEY"RE MUTSS!" She yelled, jumping up and scrambling away from Chaska. "GET AWAY FROM US!" Suddenly, a flash of movement from the corner of her vision sent Gloria into a fit. "THEY"RE SURROUNDING US! WE HAVE TO KILL THEM HELP!"

Penny shivered and scooted closer to Felix. "Whenever it got chilly like this my parents and I would snuggle up by the fire and we'd knit or sew or quilt together. Then we'd be warm and cozy. Though we'd give the excess blankets and scarves to the orphanage down the road." Penny said, thinking back to those times, she thought of the smiles on those poor kids faces when they dropped off the blankets, how happy they were.

Eden Beauregard District One Career
Location: Camp
Tagged: Careers, Demitra
Eden's expression shifted from sympathy to horror as he realized what brought Gloria to such a state. Even in the dim moonlight, he could make out the clearly infected wound on her torn earlobe. When she threw her bandage into the river the day before, he hadn't expected the consequences to be this dire. A part of him blamed himself for not being more firm at the time.
More screams erupted, this time from Madeline. Eden's head whipped around just in time for him to spot a smaller tribute heading from the woods. Had that snake crouched in the grass the entire time, watching this all unfold like some kind of spectacle?
"Don't you dare come back!" Eden shouted after Demitra with so much anger in his voice, he scared himself a little. "You cowardly mutt!"
He added that last bit for Gloria's sake. An idea suddenly hit him, and he struck out at thin air as if fighting an imaginary enemy. It didn't work when they calmly told Gloria that the mutts weren't real, so maybe countering irrationality with irrationality would be more effective. Hopefully his little act would convince her the imaginary mutts were retreating.
"Alright, Gloria. We fought off the mutts and they won't dare to come back." Once Eden was finished his silly-looking kickboxing act, he approached the campfire with deliberate, relaxed body language. He wanted to show Gloria that the 'threat' was gone now and she could relax, too. "I'll start making the tea now that we're safe and sound. Thank you for boiling the water, Caspia."

Caspia Searobin | District 4 | Location: Camp | Tags: Careers, Demitra |
No amount of gentle reassurance from anyone seemed to be working as Gloria just seemed to get more and more irrational. Caspia hadn't been trained for this. A different scream sent Caspia's heart jittering, this one from Madeline, and she watched a figure disappear into the forest. They seemed to have simply been watching... waiting. Well, they had seen their new enemy now. No doubt this was the tribute who had left the scrawl of 'murderers' on their tent. As much as she ached to give chase, there were more pressing matters at the moment, even if they were matters Caspia didn't know how to deal with. She was surprised at the anger in Eden's voice as he yelled after their spy, and confused when Eden suddenly began fighting the air. In any other circumstance, the effect would have been comedic but the District 1 boy's face remained serious. It was only once he'd completed his performance and spoke again to Gloria that she realised what he had been doing. "We were more than a match for those mutts." She agreed, "Don't worry about it, Gloria." It hurt a little to say, since based on the events of their last fight with the mutts that was a lie, but she hoped it was what Gloria needed to hear right now. Now, Eden returned to his tea and Caspia nodded in response to his thanks.

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location:  Sienna's Campsite | Tags: Penny, Sienna.|
Felix was glad when Sienna sat down with them, still looking a little miserable. She quickly asked them a question about back home, a distraction that would probably good for all of them, as Penny shuffled closer. Felix moved towards Penny too until they were pressed together, sharing their warmth. He smiled warmly at the sound of Penny's winter-time tradition, "That sounds wonderful." Penny's family seemed as wonderful as she was and Felix only wished he could have known them all outside the Hunger Games. "For us, even though we mine most of the coal it's still pretty expensive. On the really cold nights we'd get together with our neighbours in one house, tell stories with hot drinks. It just meant that only one house had to have their fire blazing." Now he looked over to Sienna for her to answer her own question.
