Surprisingly, Chaska's gentle reminder seemed to have some effect on Gloria and she actually ate one of the bread rolls without complaint before they began planning for their hunt.
"Yeah, definitely no splitting up." Caspia agreed with Eden's words about strength in numbers. It was true that many Career deaths in the past 19 games had occurred when one of them had been drawn away from the group and attacked by a non-Career. "We need to guard each others backs, I don't think she'd hesitate to attack from behind if she saw an opening."
Caspia knew exactly which Games Eden was remembering when he mentioned snares and traps. She'd been 11 when she'd watched Gleam lead Valentia into a bear trap and then dance around throwing knives at the District 4 girl with the most appalling aim.
Gloria commented that there'd be plenty enough of them to surround her and take her down. "Once we've reached that point she'd not going to be a problem." Caspia agreed, "The difficult thing will be finding her. She's had time to figure out the forest. If she hears us coming she'll know where to run or the best place to hide for an ambush. We're going to have to be quiet."

"Maybe it'll leave us alone once we're out of its territory." Felix responded hopefully though his voice was wavering. He clambered slowly and carefully out of their little alcove and offered a trembling hand to Penny to help her out, "If we don't make any sudden movements..." Strangely the mutt still hadn't made a move towards them though it was glaring at them fiercely. Perhaps that wasn't a surprise, a Capitol audience didn't want to see two tributes impaled by a goat in a cove with no escape, where was the suspense in that? No, the Capitol wanted to see a pair of tributes being chased through a valley, proving their speed and agility or dying for the lack of it. Dread and adrenaline coursed through him, making him ready to run. He could see by the knife in Penny's hand that she was also anticipating some sort of attack.

Madeline Gomez//District 1//Female//A brat//Tagged; Careers

Bread? That stupid girl had really given up her food to them? How dumb was she? Madeline couldn’t believe it. She didn’t trust that bread one bit. There was no way a non-Career tribute would just give Careers their food without some kind of plan. She bet they were poisoned.

Luckily, she had eaten her fish unlike a certain brat. That Gloria girl was as dumb as that other tribute. Unlike Gloria, she was perfectly ready to hunt down this rat of a tribute! That stupid mutt wouldn’t stand a chance.

She nodded to the others, wanting to save her voice for her victim. That stupid tribute was going to feel her wrath! She had her own items she could use, that knife she had gotten, perhaps her fishing spear? She felt like going with the fishing spear, it was much closer to the weapon she had desired to use, if ONLY some stupid tribute hadn’t taken it before! She was still super mad about that.

A plan? She thought. These idiots didn’t have a plan already?? Honestly, what did she expect? They were even dumber than she thought! Though she had to agree with that fish girl and stupid Gloria, even if she would never attempt it, sticking together seemed to be the best option. Spreading out was so dumb that even she knew it was stupid, and she can’t even read.

Jay Fernandez//District 11//Male//Tagged; Sienna

A parachute? For him? For him! Jay could barely contain his excitement, completely forgetting about the fear that had previously plagued his mind. This was a gift for him! He wondered what it was. He glanced over at Sienna before heading over to his gift.

He opened it up and smiled, reaching in and taking the flower crown in his hands. Himaya had made this for him and Esteban had helped her! He loved it, it was beautiful, he couldn’t stop looking at it. It wasn’t really much, it wouldn’t really help him in the game, but to him it was the perfect gift and he couldn’t have been more grateful.

After admiring the gift, he finally put it on, sitting the crown of soft white flowers on his blonde hair. He wondered if they could see him, he hoped that they were proud. All of them. Himaya, his family, maybe even the gamemasters, he hoped they were proud of him. He had gotten far enough for someone like him. He should’ve died earlier.

Maybe he would make it. Maybe all his worries and anxious thoughts were wrong! Maybe he would live!

Picking up the note, Jay found himself filled with newfound hope. He carefully folded the note and placed it in his pocket, looking back at Sienna. He was a little hesitant, he was worried that it would seem weird and sudden, yet he still wrapped his arms around her in a hug.

“Himaya wanted me to give you a hug.” He quickly explained to her. He hoped she appreciated the hug.

He sat there hugging her for a bit before he piped up again.

“Do you like my flower crown? Himaya said she had made it for me! That’s what my gift was. It’s really pretty.” He asked her, taking his share of the fish. Those Careers had been really nice to them, now Jay just felt really bad for not thanking them. He had been too scared. Maybe he’ll get over his fear later in the game and he’ll be able to finally thank them properly! Maybe.

Sienna’s eyes widened at Jay’s arms suddenly wrapping around him but it made her heart happy. She quickly sat the trail mix down and pulled him deeper into her arms. Sienna definitely did appreciate the hug as her tired heart was blooming with flower blossoms at the moment. First Eden and now sweet Jay giving her assurance, the brunette was finally picking up her fragility to kick out the door.“Tell Himaya, thank you for me!” She said with a warm smile as they continued hugging. Sienna softly pulled back and looked him over at his question so she could get a good look at the crown on his head. “I do! It suits its owner! You look like you could conquer the world with that flower crown, Jay.” She murmured with a sunny smile. Sienna looked up at the stars before glancing over at Jay.“What is Eleven like?” Mach-North asked curiously hoping that would open up their alliance a bit more. They had both dealt with so much and she did regret being so silent with Jay. Sienna had polished off the trail mix and folded up the plastic baggie and put it in the pack. It was best to save it she could use it at another time, maybe some future allies would need it.

Penny grasped Felix's hand. She used it to help gain her balance and stand upright. She gathered up the quilt and held it under the arm she wasn't using to hold her ally's hand. Don't kill us! Don't kill us! Don't kill us! She thought, still looking at the goat. It felt like forever creeping along the rocks, surely it would start chasing them? All of a sudden, Penny stepped into the creek, the wet rock throwing her off her balance. The quilt and knife landed in the water with a splash. For a moment Penny forgot all about the goat as the knife sank into the rocks and the quilt began floating downstream. "No!"She shouted, then remembered to keep quiet. "The quilt!" She whispered, lunging around for it. It was Jasper's! She couldn't lose it! She couldn't... no... where was it? Where WAS it? Penny finally managed to grab the quilt, and stumbled around for the knife, yelping as she felt it alright. The blade sliced her hand, but she had found it. Suddenly she remembered the goat. Penny looked back with wild eyes, where was it? Where was Felix?

Chaska wished he had better social skills the moment he spotted the scowl on Caspia's face. If he had those skills he would have realized how irritating Gloria was being. That the other's found her lack of respect to be unbearable. Instead with his dismal social skills he was left floundering. In his mind it was fairly clear, he couldn't allow his district partner to starve and if they wanted to keep their numbers up they all needed to be ready to fight. It didn't occur to him that the others might think they would be better off without the belligerent blond. That no amount of skill could ever redeem someone with no respect for others. He didn't get a chance to dwell on it though since everyone started finishing up packing up. Chaska watched in silence as Eden started gathering the last of the supplies, he wasn't sure which items his friend was gathering otherwise he would have helped. As he watched he fiddled with the tin in his hands. He was mulling over if they should bring it with them or not. On one hand they didn't really need the rolls but on the other hand if they left it then it might attract animals. Before he could come to a decision Eden had already finished packing the backpack. For a moment he stayed rooted in place as he tried to think of something to do with the tin. There wasn't anything he could think of quickly so he just clutched the tin in his free hand as he followed after Eden. Listening to the others he couldn't help but shake his head at Gloria's words. "Can't get too cocky, it is all too easy to split a group up and inflict damage that way" he said. It was technically aimed at Gloria but he tried to not stare directly at his district partner. He was a little disappointed that she was disregarding all their training but it shouldn't affect them too much. After all the other's seemed to be thinking ahead. Planning on sticking together while keeping an eye out for traps seemed like the way to go.

Once Eden and Chaska returned, they set off to take down Sharnaz. Killick silently pulled his sword from his scabbard, making sure the metal blade didn't clang against the sheath. He wanted to be ready for anything. She could be anywhere.
    Stick together. Avoid traps.
Noted. Sharnaz was clever, and if she was able to split them up, they'd be done for. The boy from Four kept an eye out for anything that looked suspicious as his allies continued to talk; he wouldn't let a stray snare take one of his fellow Careers out before they completed their mission for just vengeance. They were all in this together.
Caspia made a good point: Sharnaz knew this area much better than they did, and that gave her a slight upper hand on that front. There were more of them, but she'd had time to get a lay of the land. Also, she was... well, very smart.
But Killick didn't doubt the abilities of himself and his allies in the slightest. Not one blade-damned bit. They'd lived their lives the way they did in order to become the people they were today, in this arena.
There's no way we aren't gonna win this.

Penny had taken his offer of assistance, using his hand to help her out of the alcove. All seemed to be going smoothly until she reached the water and stumbled. Quickly Felix moved to catch her but though she stayed up everything in her arms tumbled into the water. She yelped and dove for her quilt but the goat looked irritated. Before it could charge towards her Felix darted in the other direction, splashing noisily through the water. "Don't look at her, you giant woolly jumper." Perhaps not the smartest of insults, especially since the mutt presumably wouldn't have a clue what he was saying, but he was panicking. He couldn't let the goat mutt get closer to Penny. "Look at me!" However stupid the words he was yelling felt, the noise at least seemed to do the trick. The goat turned and began to run towards Felix as Penny searched in the river for her items. It charged with its head down low, its extraordinarily long horns aimed directly at him. His adrenaline coursing, he lunged to the side and the goat charged past, its horn gouging a cut at the top of his arm but not impaling him as was intended. It slammed into the rocky face of the valley where it remained for a moment, disorientated. One hand covering the wound on his arm, the other still holding his cooking pot Felix ran back to Penny who was clutching her own items once more. "Time to run."

Penny had barely realized that Felix had distracted the goat for her, but she looked up just in time to notice. "Felix!" She exclaimed, rushing forward, seeing that he was injured, her eyes widened. "Oh no-" But seeing the goat coming after them made Penny scared, and she didn't need to be told twice to run. If her hands weren't full, Penny would've reached out to take Felix's hand, so they wouldn't be separated. However, she couldn't, so the girl was blindly splashing through the darkness. The good thing about following the creek was that she was able to get a decent sense of where she was going, but the down side was that everything was slick and uneven. She didn't want to die like this! Suddenly, she felt the creek get wider and deeper, and soon the walls of the valley began to dip. "Felix! We might be getting close to the lake!" Penny exclaimed, hoping he was still nearby.

Eden Beauregard of District One
Location: North
Tagged: Careers
Gloria's sudden surge of energy was a little concerning to Eden, but he chalked it up to the food she'd eaten. Those herb rolls smelled delicious and they were clearly made with love. No wonder they'd perk up anyone who ate them.
Madeline was mercifully silent, while Caspia and Chaska both shared their wisdom. Killick seemed to have taken his district partner's advice into consideration at once as he was watching their backs now, and Eden shot him a thankful smile for his trouble.
"I agree, she won't face us head-on for sure. Once we find her, how about we wear her down with exhaustion?" He suggested as a follow-up to his teammates' commentary. "Kind of like how wolf packs hunt in the wild. When one of them tires out, another is ready to take over the point-wolf position." He inadvertently glanced towards Caspia and Chaska as he mentioned the point wolf. Of course, Killick's position watching their back was important too. As for Madeline and Gloria, they'd be strong options to flank their target.

As they neared the pine forest, Eden felt a bit uneasy. Maybe it was the sharp yet musty smells of the northern quadrant. Out here, in the crisp prairie air, the Career pack were the apex predator for sure. But they were about to walk into the cover of a snake's den.
"We can do this," He murmured, in part to reassure himself. That's when he noticed Chaska was still holding the herb rolls. In Eden's preoccupation with fussing and plotting, he'd hardly looked at any of his allies.
"Oh! Could we have a last-minute snack before we head in? I still have some dried fruit to share." Eden said. To be honest, he wanted just a moment of normalcy before they entered the forest ahead. A chill ran down his spine at the towering pines, looming dark and silent above. The entire woods radiated an aura of cold and it set him on edge. While he had faith in his allies, there was always a tinge of worry when he thought about how many Careers hadn't returned from a hunt like this one.
Truthfully, he wanted to tell his allies how much they meant to him, how much trust and, in some cases, brotherly love he held in his heart for them. A Career's life was too short to leave those things unsaid.

Caspia Searobin | District 4 | Location: East Camp | Tags: Careers |
The general consensus was that they all remain as one big group, not becoming over-confident in their individual abilities. Killick was already keeping a weather eye out for any tricks and snares and Caspia trusted him completely to keep them all safe. Caspia was intrigued as Eden suggested a very logical plan, taking pointers from wolves in the wild. "That sounds smart." She was in definite agreement. "Sharnaz won't be able to run from us forever, and she's gonna be in a worse way that we are. She's already injured and if we're lucky, she'll be running on an empty stomach." Her face split into a grin when she noticed Eden's subtle glance towards her and Chaska as he mentioned the 'point wolf', she'd be more than happy to lead the group after their enemy and she had a feeling Chaska would feel the same way.
As the darkness of the pine forest got closer, Eden murmured reassurance to himself and everyone else. Caspia wasn't surprised. They were leaving the comfort of the prairies and entering enemy turf, who knew what was hiding amidst the trees. “Sharnaz isn’t going anywhere.” She nodded as Eden suggested they take a snack break before going on. “And fighting is always better on a full stomach.”

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location: Western Valley | Tags: Penny, big goat |
The pair ran through the darkness. Felix taking comfort in the fact he could hear Penny's footsteps as she splashed through the water, and just about make out her silhouette in front of him. As the scenery around them began to change, Penny suggested they were nearing the lake. Listening carefully behind him, he could no longer make out the clip-clop of the goat that was after them and began to slow down. "I think it's stopped chasing us." He was breathing heavily from having ran so fast and so far. They didn't want to overshoot the edge of the lake and end up in the wide open. It wasn't rare for tributes to make camp at the cornucopia, and Felix didn't want to be spotted. "We should work out which way we need to go now."
