Madeline Gomez//District 1//Female//A brat//Tagged; Careers

Madeline couldn’t have been more grateful for Chaska’s work. They no longer had to deal with that pathetic mutt. She wondered how long it would take for the rest of their little “guests” to be dealt with. She hoped that little parasite was next, it seemed like all he did was cry and complain.

Jay Fernandez//District 11//Male//Tagged; Sienna and Eden

”Sienna?” Jay’s voice fell on deaf ears as Sienna had walked off over to Moses. He didn’t want to be alone with the scary Career, even if Sienna had promised that she’d come back soon enough, but he also didn’t want to upset Sienna by complaining about it. He didn’t understand what was going on. He didn’t understand anything. He was just so confused and worried. This brutal game didn’t do anything but worry him. He worried about everything. Every little thing caused him to panic.

What was wrong with Moses? Why did they need to go on a walk? Was Moses going to be okay? More and more questions built up in his mind, but to no avail, no answers came with them.

When Sienna finally joined them, they began to walk, Jay walked next to her, not wanting to be too near to Eden. He might seem nice but Jay didn’t trust him. He had seen too many of the previous Hunger Games with all the other scary Careers. He didn’t want to risk anything.

They had begun talking with each other, their conversation only made Jay even more confused. What were they talking about? What did Eden mean by “good hands”? It scared him. It terrified him. He was afraid of the thoughts that ran rampant in his mind when he heard those words. He was afraid that returning to camp would mean returning to another corpse. He was afraid he would see his ally’s lifeless body. He had already experienced Reika’s death, he didn’t want to experience another one.

Jay felt his heart skip a beat. In the distance, he heard the last thing he wanted to hear right now. A cannon. This couldn’t be happening. It had to be someone else
Right? Sienna’s response only confirmed what he feared, yet he refused to believe it.

“Sienna? Sienna? What’s going on?” He felt as if his desperate pleas for answers would only do him harm, yet he continued.

”Sienna? Sienna, why are you crying? Please don’t cry
” He began to tear up. This couldn’t be happening, not again.

”Sienna, please
 Sienna I’m scared...Please..”

(Sorry if this is a bit wonky. I wrote this in between one of my classes.)

➔ Eden Beauregard of District One
➔ Location: Careers' camp outskirts
➔ Tagged: Sienna, Jay
A cannon fired in the distance, signalling the end of Moses' suffering. He'd be safe and warm with Rieka now. As for his allies left behind, Eden could only imagine the grief that wrenched their hearts at losing another friend so soon. Tears of sympathy blurred his vision. He wiped them away - although he often cried when others cried, right now he had to remain calm for Sienna and Jay's sake.
All Eden could do was hold Sienna tight as she sobbed into his arms, her pain and anguish coming out through tears. He cradled her as if trying to shield her from all the horrors of the arena. In an attempt to distract the grieving girl just a little, he rubbed her back in a gentle, soothing rhythm, a gesture his own mother used to calm him with.

Panic had begun to set in for Jay. Eden looked at him with concern but said nothing - any words the Career spoke would only make it worse. The boy had been expressing distrust for him as of late, a sudden development; he'd been fine earlier when Eden held Rieka in her final moments. Maybe a part of Jay blamed Eden for not being able to save his friend, or maybe it was because he was a Career.
Either way, it wasn't Jay's fault. He was so young. It just meant Eden was not the best choice to explain the situation, especially if the distrust was born from his district number. He recalled Sienna mentioning earlier that she'd explain... best to leave it in her hands.
"When you're ready, can you head upstream with Jay?" He asked Sienna in a soft tone. "I'll bring your belongings over later tonight."
Allowing Jay to return to the Careers' camp would be poor judgement. Not just for little Jay, but also for Chaska. Eden could only imagine the weight on his friend's shoulders right now; taking a life for such reasons often hurt the killer more than it hurt the casualty. On the chance that Jay reacted poorly, if he screamed and called Chaska a murderer, it would only twist the knife for everyone involved.

➔Sienna Mach-North| D7 |17|Tags:Jay,Eden| loc:career camp outskirts

Sienna wiped her tears looking at Jay before pulling him into a hug while Eden rubbed her back before she soon broke from both of them nodding,“It’s definitely best for all of us, I was thinking of moving out in the middle of night I just didn’t want to hurt your feelings since you’ve been kind to us and Madeline along with Gloria views us as intruders. I don’t blame them though we have upset your camp in more ways then one. I think maybe it’s best me and Jay head out after I explain what just happened. And keep Moses’s jacket when you bring the stuff uhm it will do you more justice then us.”She said gently with a weak fragile smile as she looked at Jay empathically. “Thank you Eden and let Chaska and Caspia know that I’m forever grateful to the three of you. You can head back whenever you like. But after I explain to him and take a little breather we’ll be going upstream like you suggested.” She said softly before giving Eden one last massive hug and then turning to sweet little Jay.“Jay this is hard to talk about but the reason we went on the walk is that me and a few of the other careers and Moses collectively agreed we didn’t want you to watch him die. Don’t be scared I’ll always be here to protect you since it’s just the two of us. But as for Moses he was in so much pain and all the grief from Rieka’s passing overtook him he couldn’t fathom living another moment, but he left you a gift his bow and arrows. Jay he loved and believed so much in you. He wants you to win and to win for Rieka.” She said softly her eyes tearing up a little before sitting him down under a tree just to let them both catch up and her to cuddle up Jay protectively. Sienna just hoped Garry wasn’t taking it hard, her heart went out to him too.

Caspia Searobin | District 4 | Location: East Camp | Tags: Gloria (Chaska, Killick, Madeline) | Why Won’t Gloria Shut Up
Caspia could not believe Gloria’s ignorance as to how awful she was. “How do you think this is okay?” A tinge of pleading was in her voice, Gloria was exhausting to deal with. “A better person than you are? Yes, I do. You have no compassion.”. She had even had the gall to suggest that Edmund would be disappointed in her. “Both of our mentors killed another tribute respectfully out of mercy. You really think my mentors’s the one that’s disappointed?”
As she spoke a cannon rang out and Caspia knew that Chaska must have completed the task. “There, you can shriek all you like now, it can’t affect poor Moses anymore.”

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location: Western Valley | Tags: Penny | I Spy a Pair of Sweeties
Felix pulled an exaggerated expression of suspicion at Penny’s snicker. He squinted at their surroundings, looking for anything that was bright green. “Uh... the strawberry plant?” No, that wasn’t it, the colour wasn’t bright enough. He looked to the sky, into the water until finally he looked down for a second, just to readjust his grip on all their stuff. ”Oh!” Directly below him was a bright green patch on Penny’s sponsor gift. “It’s on the quilt!”
Their game was interrupted by the sound of a cannon, at which Felix flinched and then frowned. He quickly returned to looking at Penny however, waiting for her confirmation and to be able to spot his own item.

➔ Eden Beauregard of District One
➔ Location: Outskirts --> Camp
➔ Tagged: Sienna, Jay, Chaska
"You haven't upset our camp at all." Eden reassured Sienna with the gentlest of smiles. Poor soul, she had so much to deal with after losing two beloved friends in a single day. "I need to apologize on behalf of Madeline and Gloria making you feel unwelcome. Neither of them are acting as a Career should - it's disappointing. I'm sorry you had to deal with their drama." He had to tell the truth, even if it was harsh.
Sienna told him to keep Moses' jacket, which he responded to with a solemn nod. Eden hated to deprive the poor duo of resources they could use, but maybe they had other reasons of not wanting the jacket - like bad memories associated with it.
"Thank you, Sienna. I'll give you two a moment," Eden murmured as Sienna wrapped her arms around him a final time. He held her tight, not wanting to let go. But he had to. "Take care of yourself and Jay, alright? See you tonight."

As reluctant as he was to leave, Eden squeezed her hand one last time and then headed back to camp. Sienna's soothing voice faded into the distance as she began to explain things to little Jay. The poor lad, Eden hoped he'd at least be able to sleep tonight.
Once he arrived back at camp, he took a moment to look over his allies. No one seemed any more injured than when he'd left them. Caspia still looked furious at Gloria, Madeline was stewing in a corner, and Chaska...
Eden noticed the scene, a lone Career scrubbing his bloodstained hands in the waters of the river, and immediately knew something was amiss. A very similar scene had played out earlier this morning, except that time it was Eden washing his hands of blood. He rushed over to Chaska without hesitation. Kneeling down, he gently guided his friend's now-clean hands out of the water just as Chaska had done for him.

"Chaska, I'm here now," Eden murmured, wrapping his arms around his Career brother. "Sienna wants to thank you for helping her friend go peacefully. You did a kind deed, the kindest you could have done in that situation."
But it was never easy. Eden had seen it before, the toll it took on even the calmest and strongest of Careers. Anise, Jess, Reinhold. You never truly end suffering, you relieve them of theirs but carry it on your own shoulders. Knowing this, he couldn't begin to fathom what Chaska must be feeling right now, what conflicting emotions tortured the battle-scarred Career's mind.
"I'm sorry. It must have been difficult. I... I'm not going to let go until I know you're okay, alright?"

If Caspia wanted to get through to Gloria she was obviously failing. Her words only made Gloria angrier. Inching closer, Gloria got right up into the district 4 girl's face. There was no way this girl thought she had the right to talk to her like this!"Well I'm not the one bawling about dead tributes who I barely know." She hissed, before walking back off to go pout somewhere. It was pathetic! Gloria had known these people for less than a week and they were all like awwww bohoooooo everyone's dying!! waaaaaaah! Why did they care? Two dead tributes meant the end was closer and Gloria could take a shower and wear purple again. As she got back towards camp she arrived just in time to see Moses's dead body. Good. Maybe without the swelling and puss all of his face he'd look somewhat good looking, better than Madeline but nowhere near as pretty as Gloria herself. Moving off to the side, Gloria began to clean the dirt from her beautiful pearly white nails with the tip of one of her knives. They were already starting to chip away because of being outside for so long, and Gloria was starting to wish she brought nail polish with her instead of those stupid earrings! At that thought, she began to scratch at her ear as if thinking about the earrings reminded her of the injury.

Penny shook her head knowingly when Felix guessed the strawberry plant. "try again!" She exclaimed, continuing on the trek. All of a sudden, the sound of a cannon made Penny jump, but she shoved her fear away with the excitement of Felix guessing correctly! "Yes! Good job!" She exclaimed, beaming. "Okay, now your turn!" Penny said while making sure to look ahead so she wouldn't be able to see what Felix was looking at and cheat.

Chaska was so lost in his own mind he didn't even hear Eden rush over and kneel beside him. He only seemed to break the trance when hands latched onto his and gently guided them out of the water. Glassy and unfocused eyes met Edens compassionate ones and warm arms wrapped him up in a hug. A shudder ran down his spine as Chaska seemed to fully snap out of his chance. Before Eden has even spoken Sienna's name out loud he had wrapped his own arms around Eden. Burying his face in the taller careers shoulder and holding onto them like they were his life line. As the words washed over him, he couldn't help but wonder if it was truth. No matter how kind to deed, there was always the possibility that he could have done something to save Moses. Like maybe if he had been faster he could have saved Rieka and that definitely would have helped. Thankfully he was wise enough not to say such things out loud. Even he knew that Eden would be very worried if he spoke his fears out loud, so instead he just curled into the hug. When Eden spoke again Chaska had already decided that should someone else need him to do that again he would do it. Feeling a bit better he gave Eden a tiny squeeze. Then he pulled back and fixed Eden with a serious look. "I'd do again in a heart beat and I will do it for anyone who needs it. Thank you Eden. I didn't realize it had affected me" he said with as much conviction as he could muster. Nodding to the dagger that lay next to him he fully pulled away and quickly cleaned off the blade. "Shall we?" he asked indicating their camp with his nod.

Caspia Searobin | District 4 | Location: East Camp | Tags: Gloria —> Killick (Chaska, Eden, Madeline) | Ready to Talk to Someone Human
Caspia’s words were doing nothing to make Gloria rethink her awfulness and she was really getting no satisfaction from this hissed argument. Glad to see her stomp off to clean her nails after a final cruel response, Caspia glanced around to her other allies. Chaska and Eden were heading back from over by the river and Killick was standing over to one side. She headed over to her district partner, expecting that the other two would join them shortly. Killick wasn’t the biggest fan of strangers, so it wasn’t surprising that he’d moved out of the centre of things especially while Moses was being helped. “Looks like it might be a little while before we see Sienna and Jay again. Looks like Eden’s gotten fond of them though. ” It was a sorry thought that the next time they see them might be their faces in the sky, neither of them deserved that, but Caspia chose to ignore it.

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location: Western Valley | Tags: Penny | Shiny Stone
Now it was Felix’s turn to choose an object. As he scanned around him, looking for something as interesting as Penny’s had been, a gleam in the water caught his eye. A shiny, pale pink stone was nestled in the pebbles of the water.
”Oh! You might have to stop to spot this one.” They were making good pace and he was sure she’d guess this quickly so the momentary pause shouldn’t cause much of a problem. ”I spy with my little eye, something that glints in the light.” He smiled at her eagerly, the pretty stone bought the sweet girl to mind so he hoped she would like it.

Madeline Gomez//District 1//Female//A brat//Tagged; Careers

That disgusting Gloria girl. Who did she think she was? Sure, Madeline would’ve also yelled at the now dead tribute but Madeline was also a hypocrite. If only Madeline had the ability to insult her. Unfortunately, she had lost her voice and she didn’t know any other way of communication. At least she thought she didn’t.

Suddenly, she remembered a simple gesture that would show Gloria how she felt about her. She glared over at Gloria and held out her pinky finger. Stupid Gloria, Madeline HATED HER!

Jay Fernandez//District 11//Male//Tagged; Sienna

Jay began to sob when Sienna pulled him into a hug. He was so scared. He was so confused. Jay didn’t understand. Was Moses really gone? Maybe this was just a bad dream. Maybe if he tried hard enough he would wake up back in their tent. Maybe Reika would be taking a nap next to him, maybe Moses and Sienna would be keeping watch. No matter how hard he tried, no matter how tightly he closed his eyes and sobbed, he never woke up. This was real, all of it was. Reika was dead and now Moses was too. He had to accept the truth.

He just wanted to stay there, hugging Siena and sobbing for all eternity. He didn’t know what else to do. He was just so scared and sad. He had already lost two allies, he hadn’t even said goodbye to Moses. He felt horrible. Unfortunately, Sienna soon pulled away, thanking the Career before turning to him.

Despite her explanation, Jay was still confused. Why couldn’t they have saved Moses? They could’ve saved him if they tried hard enough. They did try, didn’t they
?

“But...But. I. But. But couldn’t we have helped him? We could- could’ve
” How pathetic, he couldn’t even finish his own sentence. Was this really the boy that Moses believed in? It couldn’t be. Moses had made a mistake. He wasn’t going to win and he wasn’t worthy of being believed in. He was just a coward. Moses should’ve allied with someone else, he should’ve left his bow and arrows to another tribute. He couldn’t even use a bow. That gift was only a waste, just like him.

Why couldn’t they have helped him? Why didn’t they help Moses? If Moses were still here he would be able to take back his gift. Jay didn’t deserve it. Moses would’ve needed it more than him.

Jay was terrified and something in him was angry. Angry that he was a coward. Angry at the fact that he couldn’t protect Reika. Angry at himself for being so useless. He felt a part of him that was absolutely furious. Furious at the fact that they didn’t help Moses well enough. They could’ve helped better. If they had done better he would still be here. He was afraid of that part of himself.

He didn’t want to be angry at them, he was sure they did the best that they could, but at the same time
. He didn’t and as he sat there, cuddled up with Sienna, he couldn’t help but be angry at her. She should’ve done better.

➔Sienna Mach-North| D7 |17|Tags:Jay| loc:career camp outskirts

“Jay that infection was going to kill him way before Rieka... He’s had it for days and without the proper Capitol medicine he would have just gotten worse. I couldn’t stop him even if I threw myself in front of a felling tree, I would have never stopped him.”Sienna said hoarsely holding the sobbing boy next to him. She didn’t blame him if he hated her, she hated herself at the moment too. Something in her heart lead her to the notion that everyone hated her for letting Moses die... But she was going try and punch through that feeling, she had to stay strong and protect Jay. Her heart just panged for Chaska it must be hard to take a life out of empathy.“Even the Careers tried their hardest to rescue him, but it all failed. I’m sorry, next time I’ll try harder.” She murmured softly rubbing his arm gently. Before thinking,“If I even get a chance to live to the next time.” The brunette sunk her teeth into her inner cheek tasting iron, if she gnawed her inner cheek open then it must be working to keep her tears from falling free.
