➵ Eden Beauregard of District One
➵ Location: Careers' Camp
➵ Tagged: Careers
For a moment, Eden dared to believe he'd gotten through to his ally - but his hopes were shattered by cold words that cut into his heart. He stared after Gloria with an expression of shock as her accusation echoed through his head. How could she say something like that? Tears pricked at his eyes, but he wiped them away with a sleeve as his expression turned cold.
"You're wrong," Eden mumbled with an edge of bitterness. "Winning was the last thing on my mind when I chose this path."
He knew he was being sensitive, but she'd struck a nerve with that comment. After all his efforts to help, she still turned around to utter the words that hurt him most. Turning to Caspia, he tried to meet her gaze but couldn't. His eyes still stung with unshed tears.
"I'm going to wash my hands before I start cooking," Eden said in a quiet, inoffensive tone. "Can you and the others get the fish, maybe start a fire? That would be really great. Ah... you don't have to if you don't want to, though."
Eden got up and moved to the riverbank, afraid he'd become more emotional if he kept talking. He'd always been such a crybaby. Maybe his coddling mother had something to do with it - she treated him like a baby well into his teenage years - but Eden would never blame his dear mother for his issues. He wished he was more like her, honestly. She never whined when someone said mean words.
The river waters had already carried the discarded bandage away, but Eden still made sure to wash his hands upstream of where she'd thrown it in. It would diminish the hygiene concerns a little. Of course, the arena was never a sterile environment, but he'd do his best to minimize contamination. Carefully, methodically, he scrubbed Gloria's blood from his hands.
One minute turned into two, then five. He couldn't stop washing even as his hands became raw and sore - Gloria's blood was gone, but he could still feel crimson stains seeping into his skin. Not her blood. Someone else's.
Oh dear. I can't get them out, Eden thought in desperation, blind to the truth that the bloodstains were long gone.
➵ Reyna Byrne of District Twelve
➵ Location: East
➵ Tagged: Sharnaz, Darius
Darius seemed pleased at the idea of hunting down weak tributes, which earned him a venomous glare from Reyna. Did this idiot seriously think he'd live that long? She wanted to savor the look on his face when they betrayed and framed him, when the Career wolfpack came howling for his blood. Everything about him just ticked her off. Of course, she couldn't kill him yet, so she just ignored the moron.
"Sounds good. That girl from District Eleven seems helpless," Reyna replied in a hushed tone, although she couldn't help smiling. "We can also take out my district partner and his pathetic little girlfriend."
The smile immediately fell when she saw the silver parachute. At that point, Reyna almost exploded in rage - it took everything in her to restrain her anger. How dare the Capitol sponsor that pathetic thirteen year old brat and not her? She'd speak to their manager!
