Zoe felt a prick of anxiety as she realized that she hadn't done anything that night. All she'd done was cry in a tree and then sit silently by the fire. This was not the behavior that encouraged sponsors. She would take the first watch that night, she decided. That might help. "How old is your sister?" she asked Colby, who had just finished up a cute story about Mae and the other kids back in his district.

Sienna had quickly rezoned into Colby’s story and smiled at the thought of sweet little Mae,“Your a good brother Colby... And sports sounds fun! Too bad in seven we only had tree scaling competitions once in a blue moon. Actually life stories sound pretty fun and well maybe we all could bond a little more.” Sienna offered with a small smile after wrapping up her moorhen in more leaves and tying it off with a vine to slide into the yellow pack. She was starting to grow more worried about Moses.“Moses was a logger, right Moses? Hey Colby sorry to bother you and your story but what do you think of these scratches and his body temperature?” She asked while taking Moses’s temperature, the red head was starting to look worse for ware anyways.“Maybe a little water could help. I didn’t see a first aid kit at the cornucopia.” Sienna said.

Moses smiled with exhaustion as he thumbed his zipper with the sweet story from Colby. “Aww Colby you could keep talking. We don’t mind at all.” He said and tried swatting his worried district partner away. But he didn’t respond when Sienna had said his job, the redhead was just trying to relax and not think about his sweltering body from the humidity despite the swamp cooling a smidgeon. He had finished the pack up though and it was now perfectly camouflaged. “I’m fine guys really I’ve been scratched by birds before and I thought there was one but I didn’t see who got it and I’m not burning up and nor will I get a infection.” He said while gently swatting hands away.

Caspia Searobin | District 4 | Location: Cornucopia| Tags: Careers
With Eden all ready to be carried across the lake and the other two girls already heading across, Caspia stepped into the water, feeling it slosh over the sides of her boots. Madeline’s rude yell seemed to have goaded Gloria into moving fast enough that she nearly lost balance but Caspia took her time, unbothered by the district 1 girl’s apparent desire to rush — or perhaps just to be rude.

She fell into step next to Killick and smiled over at her district partner.
”If we were with the rest of the Career Club right now everyone would probably be trying to push each other in.” Her voice was fond as she remembered the time spent with so many friends.
“There was this one time where Kari and I were supposed to be catching salmon. She tripped me in the river so I pulled her in too and we just ended up sparring the whole afternoon. We got super yelled at for coming back empty-handed but it was worth it. Probably best to avoid going into this water too much though, there must be a reason for the gamemakers to put the podiums on an island.”

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location: Western Quadrant| Tags: Penny
Penny didn’t reply to Felix’s mention of his home, but he did look up to see her staring, some emotion in her eyes. He looked away hurriedly when their eyes met, at the same time she did.
For a little while they continued in silence. Thoughts whirled round his head, but stupidly they didn’t seem to be about the dangerous predicament he was in. Did Penny think he had been complaining about the lack of community back home? He hoped she didn’t think he was fishing for pity. Did she think he was underestimating her when he offered his hand? He didn’t think she weak, he wasn’t quite sure what it was that had compelled him to take her hand. Still, she was gripping his hand tightly, providing him with some reassurance. The familiarity of a solid hand round his was a pleasant relief in these unfamiliar surroundings.

When Penny fell, that reassuring grip on his hand pulled him down after her, the rough surface of the rocks they were walking on scraping his knees. She seemed worse off, going down face-first. Felix rushed to her side anxiously, moving to help her up and lifting a hand to her face to check for injuries.
”Penny! Are you alright?” His words came quickly, holding traces of panic. “Maybe we should stop for a while.”
There was a nook nearby surrounded by a few tall outcroppings of rock which they could shelter in for a while.

Colby smiled, "She's.. she's 15, almost 16. But I still see her as a little baby in my eyes." Mae probably was upset by that comment, but it only reassured Colby, almost as if he could communicate with her all the way from the arena. He imagined his family back at home, his mother not baring herself to watch, while Mae's eyes would be glued to the TV, not letting herself look away. "I like that." He said to Sienna when she suggested they all share things, although soon his attention was turned to Moses. "Either way you should try to stay cool, it would be better to be safe than sorry." That would prove difficult in the swamp. "We could use the last of the pitcher plant water." Colby suggested.

The left side of Penny's face was scuffed up and bruised, even bleeding a little bit. Realizing that her fall also caused Felix to fall, her eyes widened with worry. "Oh! Sorry!" She exclaimed, hand flying up to feel her face. It still burned with pain, and Penny felt tears welling in her eyes. Don't cry! Don't cry! Penny willed herself silently. All you did was fall! Resting sounded good, even though they had to get as far away from the Cornucopia as possible. "I'll be okay." She breathed, starting to walk towards the rocks. However this time she moved a lot slower and with more caution. It wasn't just the fall that caused Penny to be so rattled, it was the fact that the fall shattered all the confidence she gained from reuniting herself with Felix. In truth, she was absolutely terrified.

Sponsor Gift
A soft chime sounded in the western quadrant, followed by the appearance of a silver silk parachute. It descended from the still skies and came to a rest near Felix and Penny. Opening the large capsule attached would reveal a tightly bundled-up quilt, just wide enough to keep two people warm. Each square on the quilt bore the signature of a different citizen from District Eight.
Attached was a note from Jasper. "The district made this for me after I won the 11th Games, but you need it more than I do right now. So I'm sending it to you as a reminder: You're not alone."

(In my next post, night will officially fall - the death recap in the sky will happen then.)

“Take what you need first. We should have plenty.” She frowned as Moses was going to take first watch.“I’ll take first watch with him then. Just let me get our blankets.” Sienna crawled up the tree and grabbed two of the blankets and spare rope and rolled them up into a cute little package so she could just grab one quickly and cover her and Moses with it. She slipped them into her camouflage backpack and closed it up. Sienna slipped it on and started sharpening her battle axe for nightfall. She just hoped nothing bad would happen to the alliance.“One thing about me I guess is that I’m truly stubborn.” She said as they shared the eggs and water. Sienna made sure everyone got first before gently scrubbing Moses’s face and totally cleaning out the wounds.

Moses raised a brow and sipped some of the water he had received it was nice to coat his throat. He grimaced as he felt the boiled water poured over the scratches and then getting scrubbed out.“I’ll take first watch.” He said standing up and grabbing his dried socks along with his boots. They should probably stamp out the fire soon but he didn’t want to be giving all the orders and it seemed like Colby was the only one besides Sienna with the resources. Moses just smiled as he slipped the socks back on, they went to his knees and well did safeguard from bacteria felled water and the marsh. Moses rolled his pants back over and shook out any of the last mud in boots bitterly.

Zoe frowned as Moses took the first watch. "No, no. I'll take the first watch. I haven't done anything today and you're injured." She pulled out the first-aid kit. "You rest and use this. It'll get infected if you leave it, and it'll be a problem for all of us." She stood up. "Plus, I'm small enough that any enemies won't see me, but I can see them. And I can scream to wake you guys up." She felt her eyes drooping from the exhaustion of today, but she fought to keep them open. "I'm not even tired," she said, stifling a yawn.

Colby watched as his allies all offered to take first watch. “I’ll take second watch then.” He offered, not wanting to cause a conflict. Although he also thought he should take first watch, he didn’t want to offend his allies. Taking his spear, he handed it out to no one in particular. “Regardless, whoever does first watch should have this- to stay safe.”

All of a sudden, a little silver parachute can gliding towards them, and Penny’s eyes widened with surprise. A sponsor gift? Already? She grabbed the parachute and carefully opened it. Gasping with surprise, Penny unfurled the quilt, fingering the woven signatures of people back home. All at once, tears started streaming down her face. Happy tears though, reading Jasper’s note a smile appeared on her face. You are not alone. “Thank you.” She breathed quietly, hoping that Jasper would hear it. Running her fingers over the stitching, she found a square with a familiar signature. Marion Sylvester. Her mother. If only she had a needle and thread, she’d be able to sew her own square that she kept with her on. But no, not yet. Penny would wear this quilt with honor, use it to survive, and carry her district with her. She wouldn’t waste anymore time being afraid.

Sienna softly clasped the spear,“I’ll watch with you Zoe. You boys can get some rest.” She said as she was putting her own boots and socks on watching the girl and Moses clamber into the safety of the try for a little while longer. She swiftly stamped out a the fire and covered it up quickly.

“I’m fine! I’m fine really but thank you so much.” He said with a frown as he was wished and his scratches were properly cleaned, bandages and the first aid kit was swiftly returned to Zoe as the girls were going to share the watch and well the weapon during there “turns”. He climbed back up curling in the nook of the tree with his quill sling over his shoulders and his bow.

( district 4 )x( location: the water )x( tags: caspia, careers )

Just as the air started to maintain a relatively good vibe, off went Madeline and Gloria across the river, trying to beat each other to the mainland. Killick frowned, but as always he said nothing. Everyone else seemed to be taking it relatively easy, so he did the same. He cast one final glance over his shoulder at the Cornucopia before fixating his gaze on the shore.
As Caspia fell into stride with Killick, he felt the tense muscles in his shoulders relax. Being near his district partner made him feel a little bit better. Sure, the thought of dying was still looming over his head like a dark cloud heavy with rain, but right now... he was safe. Hell, maybe he'd even be lucky enough to get out of here -- and that alone motivated him quite a lot.
Killick smiled warmly as Caspia brought up their fellow Career Club members. Surveying the water, he nodded with a wistful grin on his face. He missed their friends back home, and it made him sad that all he had here was memories of them. It made Killick truly believe that he'd do anything to be in Four again, basking in the warm sunlight and carving up waves on a shortboard.
Listening intently to his district partner's story about her and Kari, Killick couldn't help but laugh.
"That's awesome," he said. He truly loved the bond that all of their classmates had shared. "Y'know, I'm honored to be here and all, but I'd give the world if it meant that I could spend just one more day in District Four. I miss it a lot more than I'd like to admit."
Caspia then mentioned the possible future dangers of the water. "I think you're onto something," Killick replied. "I wouldn't be surprised if the Gamemakers have something up their sleeve since there are very few strong swimmers here."
