Gloria looked to the East where Eden directed. She didn't mind being in the open, she wasn't afraid of the measly brats who somehow thought they could take her on, let alone 6 career tributes. "I don't see anything wrong with the east." Gloria said, although she hated agreeing with people. She searched Eden's face for search of some malice plan. Perhaps he had some ulterior motive? Same with Caspia, was she in on it? She tried to remember what Chaska and Icarus had said to her before the games began, just last night. Chaska trusted them, so should she. Pacing over to the water's edge, Gloria scoffed. "I can't believe they expect me to get my feet wet."

Colby watched Zoe with a smile as she braided her hair. The girl reminded him so much of his sister Mae. He missed her so much. He thought with a pain in his heart. Looking at his allies, he wondered if they all had families back home they were eager to get back to. Every tribute here did, and only one would be able to return to them. Colby looked at the sky, was that where the camera were? He wondered if Mae was watching right now, and he wished he could assure her that everything would be okay.

Penny felt Felix hug her back, and she let out a sigh of relief. The hug made her feel a little bit safer. Penny nodded, looking into Felix's eyes. "Okay, stay... stay hopeful.." She said slowly and quietly, it was easier said than done. She was reassured when Felix said he would watch her back, but would she be able to kill anyone if they attacked them? She had been asking herself that question a lot. No. If they hurt Felix, then she would. There was no question now. They were in this together, the games wouldn't be so unbearable with Felix with her. Penny didn't know what she would do without him.

Sienna Mach-North| D7 |17|Tags:Moses,Colby,Zoe| loc: Marshes

Sienna didn’t realize how excited she got when she climbed trees but she managed to make it to the top while assessing if there was mutts or fowl in the trees that could attack them at night or any moment. Luckily there weren’t any tracker jacket nests, as she chucked a few empty nests into the mud. Sienna soon clambered down having a odd feeling of being watched. Well they were being watched all the time it was probably just some hidden camera getting all the angles of her going down.“I cleared out any unwanted pests that could attack us and I think we’re south but I’m not a hundred percent sure.” She said softly.“We have trail mix and a compass!” Sienna said pulling it out and flipping the compass open and steadying it in her hand.“We are currently southeast.” She said letting Zoe and Colby look at it. Sienna shoved the trail mix in the yellow backpack deciding she would have to camouflage it later. Bright yellow just to be spotted by enemies. “How much you want to be he’s going to get chased back by a angry duck?” She said jokingly.

Moses Grandy| D7 |18|Tags:Sienna,Colby,Zoe| loc:Marshes

Moses followed Colby up with the relief of the disgusting gooey wetness off and started clambering up within minutes. The redhead managed to get the tent up in the branches after finding thick ones to lay across the branches so no one just randomly fell through. Moses used the ropes and secured the tent with strong clovehitch ties. He jumped to the ground and placed the multiple blankets inside and put everyone’s gear in for now.“And it is up. I never in a million years thought I would be doing that again.” Moses chuckled.“Once you get in a tree you might just never want to get out of it.” He said teasingly to Colby and nodded to Sienna as rejoined the group and pulled out her pack.“I’ll be back! I think I hear some waterfowl nearby.” He said with a smirk grabbing his bow and quills. Moses hopped down and cautiously crept through the marsh hearing the small quacks. A nest had to be close and eggs would work especially with all his cargo pockets.Moses crept closer and closer finding the nest of his dreams completely empty and plucked up all of the eggs and stuffed them into his pocket. Or so it was till a mother moorhen went onto her tirade. Moses went flying he couldn’t scream or actually get the chance to grab a arrow because the dang beastie was scratching him but he did make it back to the tree where he could duck from the moorhen and get a chance to shoot it. Moses crept out sheepishly and rubbed his aching face lined with a few bleeding scratches.

➵ Mentor Commentary 1

Postby SunnyJustice » Tue Jul 28, 2020 4:41 pm

Eden Beauregard of District One
Location: Cornucopia
Tagged: All Careers
Eden smiled at Caspia's chipper response followed by a compliment. After the chaos of the bloodbath, they all needed her big sister presence on the team. Of course, the other Careers had important roles to play too. Gloria and Madeline with their high standards, Killick with his quiet support, Chaska with his strength and protective instincts. Eden was so happy everyone made it through safe.
"Caspia's right. You all did amazing!" He added his own encouragement. His allies deserved to know how great they were.
The others seemed to agree with his suggestion to head east. Eden nodded in assent at Caspia's input - he wasn't too keen on navigating murky swampland or dense forests. Too many hiding places for ambushing enemies and hunting mutts.
As he started towards the water, he noticed Gloria seemed reluctant to continue. Eden frowned in sympathy before an idea hit him. They'd been graciously gifted with waterproof boots by the Gamemakers, but each pair was proportionate to the wearer's height. At six feet tall, Eden had some of the tallest boots to match. That meant less water would slosh over the top edge and into the boots' interior. He took them off and offered them to Gloria, hoping she wouldn't be too offended by the idea.
"You can wear my boots if you'd like," Eden smiled at her. "They're taller, so they might keep more water out."

Mentor Commentary

Madeline's behavior continued to prove interesting. Licaria's notebook, now covered in chicken scratch, had clearly taken the brunt of the mentor's excitement. The pair from District One were such a contrasting duo. Watching them interact, whether with each other or with the other Careers, brought an excited smile to Licaria's face.

Icarus remained silent, but a proud smile warmed the mentor's expression. He'd watched Chaska save the lives of two children, decapitating their would-be murderer in a single strike. The young man's honor and discipline were impeccable.
As for Gloria, Icarus' eyes held nothing but approval as she knifed another tribute from a distance. But then she complained about getting her feet wet. A brief frown crossed Icarus' face, but he chose to ignore the finicky comment. It was of no consequence.

Quillon shook his head as his male tribute's head rolled. What was that kid's name again? Alek or something? As for the female tribute, she'd run off into the marshland but was avoiding contact with other tributes. Coward.

Edmund leaned forward, eyes glued to the screen during the whole fight. He couldn't help but applaud as his tributes struck down their enemies. A huge smile spread across his face - Killick and Caspia were amazing!
Quillon yelled at him to shut up, but Edmund ignored the rude mentor. He was too busy being proud of his little Career babies. Payne was wrong to underestimate Killick, as the size difference between them hadn't mattered at all. And Cooper didn't stand a chance against the true wielder of that trident. Oh, if Caspia or Killick made it out alive, Edmund was adopting them at once.

When Greg went down with a knife in his back, Khali didn't even notice. She was completely focused on Sharnaz. As the tribute cut out impromptu dagger holsters for herself, Khali smiled a wicked smile at the mental image of the near future. Sharnaz would be able to use those blades soon. She was heading north now, no doubt already forming a plan in that brilliant little head of hers.

Gleam rolled her eyes. Not only had Colby stuck with his alliance, he'd fussed over that tribute from District Eleven. Why did he care about that girl? Only one of them could escape the arena alive, he shouldn't get attached.
As for her other tribute, Winona had died too quickly for Gleam's liking. That worthless idiot deserved to be mauled by mutts.

Garry didn't flinch as Moses killed another tribute. He'd witnessed bloodier deaths than that, and was admittedly a little desensitized to his tributes taking lives in the arena. Whatever it took to keep them safe.
His heart pounded with worry as the District One boy charged towards Sienna. Eden lashed out with his swords - but missed every time. Odd for a Career who'd scored 10 in training. Then it hit Garry - this was the boy she mentioned. He'd spared her on purpose.
Both District Seven tributes escaped to the south, where they reunited with their alliance and started a long trek away from the arena centrepoint. Now Moses was having trouble with a small bird. Garry felt bad, but he couldn't help but chuckle.

Jasper paced back and forth around the room. He'd chewed his nails to stubs in his rampant worry, seeing poor Penny so terrified and disheveled. Worst of all, the sponsor gift he'd sent to comfort her hadn't even arrived yet. What was taking so long?
He calmed down just a little when Felix comforted Penny. You're a good man, Felix. Please keep her safe, Jasper pleaded in his mind. All he wanted to do was hug his poor tribute and tell her it'd be okay. But he couldn't.
As for Darius? Jasper was growing to hate that young man. He'd tried to kill the smallest tribute for heaven's sake!

After watching both his tributes die in the bloodbath, Ronny just shrugged and went back to texting on his phone. When a message popped up, asking how he felt about Payne and Bridgette's deaths, Ronny provided a telling reply... "idc."

As an older tribute snuck up behind Rieka, Jill had to clap a hand over her own mouth to silence the scream. Inexplicably, the Career from District One came to her aid just in time. Once Rieka recovered from the shock, she had nothing but kind words for the Career and it melted Jill's heart. That little angel could bring out a hint of goodness in anyone's soul.
Her eyes widened as Rieka broke into a run, then lunged at an older tribute twice her size. All to save her friend Jay. She was successful too, buying just enough time for the District Two boy to decapitate the attacking tribute. Oh my god... she's the bravest little pup I've ever seen. I better not start crying in front of the other mentors.
Oh, and Cooper was dead too. A shame. Jill didn't dwell on it though, all her attention was on Rieka.

Himaya watched Zoe run off from the Cornucopia. A wise choice for self-preservation, and she and her alliance were reunited in short order. Zoe didn't seem to react well when her ally killed another tribute, but she seemed to reconcile with the older teammate before long. It seemed the entire team got along pretty well.
As for Jay, he'd almost been murdered by a cowardly idiot. Himaya clenched her jaw in rage at the very thought. Thankfully, his ally came to his rescue, delaying Aleksander just long enough for a Career to take him out. If Rieka and Chaska hadn't been there... things would've turned ugly. Aleksander is lucky to be dead. If he made it out, I would kill him for attacking my child.

Maverick was shaking with anticipation as he watched Felix and Penny navigate the bloodbath. Even though the District Eight girl wasn't his tribute, Maverick was concerned for her well-being too. Thankfully both of them made it out alive.
When Penny wrapped her arms around Felix, seeking comfort, it warmed Maverick's heart to watch his tribute hug her back. He calmed her down by repeating Maverick's exact advice. Stay hopeful.
Maverick couldn't help but smile in pride. As for Reyna... Mav wasn't worried about her. He was more concerned about her potential targets, including poor Felix or Penny. She seemed like the type who'd ruthlessly kill her own district partner.

Gloria gave Eden a look as he took off his boots and handed them to her. She snatched them and inspected them. Why would he go out of his way to help her? She certainly wouldn't have done the same. Carefully taking off her own boots, she slid Eden's onto her feet. Of course they didn't fit, Eden's boots were way bigger than her own. Gloria thought about offering her other boots back to the other career, but she decided against it. She couldn't let just anyone wear her shoes, what if they had smelly feet! "Thanks." She said in return, but the word felt foreign in Gloria's tongue. She hardly ever told anyone that. They didn't deserve it. However despite her doubts on his trustworthiness Eden had done a nice thing for her.

Colby was in awe at the skill Sienna and Moses used with tree climbing, and how easy they made it look. Hanging high in the tree was the secured tent, and Colby had no idea how on earth Moses was able to get it up there. Sienna pulled out trail mix and a compass, and Colby made note of it. If they were southeast then... he quickly found the direction where the Cornucopia was. It could be useful if they ever needed to go anywhere quickly. Laughing as Moses was attacked by an angry bird, Colby stopped when he realized his friend could actually be hurt. "You okay?"He asked.

Felix Prestman | District 12 | Location: Western Quadrant| Tags: Penny
Felix smiled at Penny when she echoed his words back at him. Hopefully he’d provided her with at least some reassurance - as much as possible in circumstances like these. For Felix, her presence was enough. He understood what Maverick had said about his allies keeping him from losing hope. He’d known Penny for less than a week, but just knowing that they were together, that he wasn’t alone, was enough to keep the deep dread away.

As much as he wanted to hang around, make sure his ally was okay and maybe hug for a little longer, Felix knew they had to keep moving.
“Come on, we should go find that shelter.” He said gently, offering her a hand automatically, then looking embarrassed and trying to explain. “The ground looks pretty uneven.”
He didn’t want to have explore the area in silence, with all their thoughts and fears running through their minds, so he decided it was time to get to know his ally a little more.
“So.. I’d love to learn a bit about District 8 while we walk.”

Chaska watched Rieka drag Jay away in stoic silence. He watched until he were a good distance away and then turned to his allies. He let his gaze flicker across each career, taking time to give them a once over as if searching for an injury that they had somehow overlooked. Luckily from what he could tell they were all injury free, Caspia had a scratch on her chin and Killick had a few grass stains but they weren't in need of immediate attention. Instead he focused on the kills they had made, the careers has been effective with neutralizing their targets. Even though Killick hadn't taken out his target on first blow the district four career had shown his skills in battle and he was just as impressed. Finally he gaze fell on Caspia and he gave her a tiny nod of approval before turning his attention to Eden. Just in time for the district on career to suggest that they head East towards the meadows. His brows furrowed ever so slightly as he tried to figure out why they would head in the same direction as the kids that they had just save. Then it hit him, Eden must be trying to protect the kids even more. To follow them and make sure that none of the cowardly tributes got to them. With that thought he gave a swift nod of approval to show he agreed with the plan. At the sound of Gloria's scoff he opened his mouth to give a solution but Eden beat him to it and quickly offered their boots. An offer that Gloria took them up on and then held onto her own boots. Which left Eden without any kind of shoes. Coming to the only logical solution he turned to Eden opening his arms as though offering a hug. "I can carry you across, it would be better than stepping on a sharp rock and getting injured" he said logically.

Sharnaz listened to Reyna swear and insult the other tributes, the only sign she was listening were the occasional grunts and agreements. Talking while wading through water wasn't exactly her first choice. Luckily it didn't seem to bother Reyna since she was mostly focused on talking smack and growing out insults. The gears where turning inside her scheming mind and she understood the reason for Reyna's bad behavior as soon as they reached dry land. Her ally didn't like water, water that she happened to have in her pocket. It was then she knew she had some control over Reyna and all it would take was a bit of water. Keeping the grin off her lips she silently began to plan as they traveled further into the woods. She barely noticed the drop in temperature but her ally seemed to notice right away. At the glance that Reyna sent her she started looking around seriously. "We don't know what kind of beasts they will have traveling through these woods so we should probably find a place where nobody can sneak up on us. Preferably a place where it is only possible to approach from one or two directions" She said thoughtfully as she kept peering through the woods. Looking for a good place to set up camp. They would want to find it soon since they didn't have a tent and so they would have to make a shelter somehow.

Rieka waited for a moment for Jay to respond and then glanced up at the district two male. While she trusted him to not attack them she also didn't want to annoy him. So she pushed herself to her feet and reached out grabbing Jay's hand and pulled her ally to his feet. Then with a tiny nod to the career she hurried forward. Heading for the Eastern Quadrant. The sooner they got there the better. She quickly found herself wading through the water. Water that hadn't looked so deep when the other tributes had walked through it. However due to her tiny size it was much more a chore to wade through the water than she assumed it was fr the others. "You okay?" she asked worriedly. It was her assumption that Jay was struggling as much as she was, after all he was barely taller than herself. Despite their smaller size it didn't take them all that long to get to dry land. Picking up speed Rieka jogged onto dry land with a huge grin. "Its so pretty! Lets find a super cute place to set up the tent. Then maybe we will have time to decorate it with the flowers. We can pretend like we are camouflaging it but really its to make it pretty" she chirped cheerfully. She was trying to forget that they were in the middle of the games.

Penny nodded in agreement, the tall cliffs of rocks cast ominous shadows that made her even more nervous. Penny took Felix's hand quickly, either out of instinct or for reassure, she wasn't sure which. She blushed soon after, and quickly nodded at Felix's excuse of the rough terrain. Heart beating fast, Penny found it unbearable to just listen to the sound of their footsteps, and was glad when Felix brought up conversation. A slight smile flickered across the tribute's face at the thought of her home. "District 8 is wonderful. Of course it doesn't have the flare of the career districts but it's my home." Taking the hand that wasn't intertwined with Felix's, she felt around for her piece of fabric in her pocket. It had been given to her since she was a baby. "Pretty much all of the fabrics in Panem come from eight actually." Penny's fingers moved to trace the barely noticeable seams of her uniform, although the Gamemakers designed them, they were probably made in her home. "Everyone seems to know everyone back home. We're all really close, we all work together to take care of the families of those who are... reaped." Penny was going to say died, as district 8 didn't have the best reputation with producing victors.

Sienna Mach-North| D7 |17|Tags:Moses,Colby,Zoe| loc: Marshes

Sienna softly gasped at Moses,“Moses your scratches there open! Thank you for the food but you shouldn’t poke around not so empty nests!” She said worried about her district partner and shook her head softly like a worried mother.“I’ll get us mint leaves to chew on if there around and greens so we can make a fire to roast the bird over.” She said picking up a axe and climbing higher limbs before leaping to another branch in a new tree. Sienna found lovely branches and it killed her to chop them with a battle axe and not a proper axe but they needed wood and tons of it to use for snares and a spite. She couldn’t find the mint leaves but she did come back with the axe in her mouth and arm load of wood. Sienna dropped it at the base and used thin branches to set the snares her mentor told her about around there small piece of land at north, west, east, and south of the base. She soon returned and started setting up a small fire and two sticks to hold the spit she would carve in the tree.“I set up snares to protect us some at night. Just be careful when walking.” Sienna said sheepishly as she began to carve while Moses was cleaning up the moorhen from its feathery life.“Also Colby you can stick the eggs in the pack if you want!” She said kindly.

Moses Grandy| D7 |18|Tags:Sienna,Colby,Zoe| loc:Marshes

After five minutes of hell from momma moorhen, he did manage to stab at it with a arrow. He jumped back up in the branches with the treat and cautiously sat down on the limb next to Colby.“ Good news I got us a bunch of eggs and a moorhen we can eat for the next few days. Bad news I couldn’t find a trace of fresh water unless we go back to the cornucopia for it. But chewing bark and certain leaves can give us water. And I’m fine just a bit of scratches from a angry momma. I’m sure in a few days they’ll heal.” He said handing the eggs from his pocket to Colby while he started to defeather the bird after getting his arrow back. Moses wiped his sweaty face into his black undershirt and exhaled at the humidity. “We could possibly cook the eggs by cracking them on rocks and letting the heat get to it but other then that I am out of ideas.” He chuckled his face creasing in a pained smile as he finished with the bird now it just had to be cooked.

Zoe Marius of District 11
Location: Marshes
Tagged: Allies (Sienna, Moses, Colby)

Zoe shook herself out of her daze. When she'd climbed into the tree she'd felt so at home she was overwhelmed by a wave of grief and longing for home so hard that she had stayed crouched in the tree for far too long. Colby had been sitting next to her for a while and although they didn't talk, she felt his closeness and was comforted by it. She eventually sprang down from the tree, landing on her tiptoes and rolling onto her heels so as not to put pressure on her feet, like she'd been taught. Moses and Sienna had proved very resourceful, Moses killing some feathery type of fowl and Sienna working on fire to roast the eggs. Zoe was baffled by the odd, sleek, dark bird that Moses was plucking. "What is it?" she wondered out loud, cocking her head and circling it slightly. She remembered her mother telling her about a bird similar to it. "A duck?" she asked. She giggled a little bit and poked the balding bird. "Quack." She didn't know why she was in such a cheerful mood... maybe a combination of having allies that could protect her and feeling the comfort of a tree had mixed into something that could chase her fear away, even if only for a moment.

Reyna Byrne of District Twelve
Location: North
Tagged: Sharnaz
Reyna's expression shifted back into a smile at Sharnaz's words. Even though her ally offered nothing but practical advice, it still lifted the District Twelve girl's mood. It came as a subconscious reminder of how intelligent her teammate was.
Plus, causing chaos in the arena was more fun with a friend to appreciate her efforts. What would she do without Sharnaz?
"That's smart. I'd rather not be mauled by slobbering mutts." Reyna let out a barking laugh, just like the very mutts she complained about. She thought back to the 11th Hunger Games when swarms of ankle-biters from the prairies tore through the Careers.
Being the dense idiot she was, Reyna couldn't spot any ideal shelter spots. Only when they arrived at a cliff face - with a waterfall thundering down from above - did she get an idea. Reyna vaguely remembered reading a book with a cave behind the falls.
"Want to check that out?" She asked, but made no move to examine the cliff first. Too much water for her liking.

Eden Beauregard of District One

Eden breathed a sigh of relief as Gloria took his boots, not seeming offended by the offer. She examined them for a moment before replacing her own boots with the larger ones. Then she thanked him, a pleasantly surprising gesture. He couldn't help but smile.
"Any time." Eden meant it sincerely. A man of his word, he wouldn't pass up an opportunity to aid his allies.
He'd never fit into Gloria's smaller boots, so it was a good thing she didn't offer them. Instead Eden started to roll up his pant legs in preparation to wade. Before he could remove his socks, however, Chaska approached him with arms outstretched. A hug! Eden instinctively walked into Chaska's open arms and wrapped his arms around his ally.
Chaska then explained what he was offering - oops. Eden released his poor teammate from the hug, smiling sheepishly. "Are you sure? Only if it's not a hassle!" Even though Chaska was incredibly strong, Eden didn't want him to tire himself out too much. His ally was brilliant to think of such details, though. It wouldn't do to die of tetanus from sharp things hidden in muddy water.

NPC Antagonists Update
Darius set up a makeshift camp in the north quadrant. After building a fire, he huddled around it to warm up his hands. Hopefully none of the threatening teams would think to come this way.
Demitra mulled over her options. She needed to start taking out the competition, preferably tributes who'd proved themselves strong and capable of killing. Since she'd gone to the south quadrant, the closest option was Moses.
She made up her mind. That night, she would strike.
