As he was about to attack Melanie, he felt himself tumble into the dirt with Benji, sending them scattering. Realizing there was a more vicious opponent, his focus went to him. Letting out a groan of rage, Daniel started to rapidly swing his axe at him.

And heh, to think I was about to die alone with those careers attacking me.” She handed him the spear she stole. “Here, I managed to steal this from Avion.”

Cassia turned as there was shouting, then Daniel was attacked by another male tribute. Before she could rush to his aid, the girl Cassia had been chasing came back, baring a knife. The girl dodged her attacks, but the offensive blows the girl made lacked skill and poise. She seemed to be trying to force her into the fire. Cassia would have none of that, shoving Juniper against a tree and holding one of her knives to her throat.

Juniper saw Benji ran after the careers and her heart skipped a beat. That was so brave! Realizing her opportunity she ran for Cassia. Cassia definitely had the advantage, Juniper noted, with a sword and knives, whereas the district 7 tribute only had a dagger. But Juniper had one goal, throw her into the fire. Cassia's hands were on her in an instant, shoving her against a tree with a knife against her throat. Eyes wide with fear, Juniper locked eyes with Melanie. Help me!!!! She screamed in her mind.

Joshua took the spear and held it a few inches away from him. He couldn't possibly think of taking someone's life with this. Why had Kyra given it to him? If your life was in danger, would you kill? He asked himself. Joshua didn't actually know the answer.

indentationBenji felt his axe hit Daniel a few times, but he also felt Daniel's hit him as well. It was becoming apparent that the two were evenly matched, eventually Benji could keep taking hits, so he just got up, he got up, grabbed the two girls' arms and ran. It was obvious this was about to be a bloodbath. He guided the girls to the arena where he stopped for a second. Benji looked at them with fear. Without a second thought he scopped up Melanie and ran south east. He didn't know where he was going, but he was going to get them to safety. They somehow lost the careers. How he has no clue.

He looked behind him at Juniper who was keeping up pretty well. He was bleeding and needed help but he didn't care at the moment. Adrenaline was pumping through his veins. Suddenly they found what appeared to be a fruit orchard. Benji set Melanie down and collasped. His breathing was fast and deep. Benji did it. He succeeded. He laughed. A genuine laugh. It felt foreign in his throat. He just kept laughing and couldn't stop, he must have looked insane. It died down but there was a smile still on his face, tears slowly started making their way on his cheeks. "We're safe..." Benji stated.

Cassia managed to hit Juniper's shoulder before she was pulled away by Benji. "There are still plenty of tributes left in the woods. They'll burn. So what if there are still a couple of kids left out there, we'll get them eventually."

Juniper was relieved when they began to run away, Benji seemed to be in really rough shape though. She gasped in relief as they stumbled upon an orchard. Where was Raven? She thought, glancing around. "Benji!" Juniper gasped, rushing to his side. There was a pain in her arm, and Juniper noticed that just below her shoulder was welling with blood, she had been hit. However her injury was less important than Benji's, he seemed really hurt! "Are you okay? How bad are you hurt?" Juniper asked, gently wiping away the tears that were falling down his face.

Melanie tumbled onto the floor beside him, shaking and guilt embedded on her face. "I-I'm sorry! This is all my fault, I should've helped you guys!" She sniffled, starting to cry as she scooted herself closer to Benji to see his wounds.

indentationBenji looked over to Melanie. "Hey, hey. Its okay. I promised I'd protect you remember? Not the other way around." He said softly to the girl wiping her tears away with a knuckle. "Princess I'm fine. I'm-I'm not dying, not yet. Just in a lot of pain. I did hit Daniel a few good times too." Benji looked around at the place. "Look we need to find some shelter, get some food, some water. I need to change and apply bandages. Okay? We're still here. We need to be safe." Benji looked between the two girls. He tried getting up but fell to the ground again. He tried once more and was successful. It took a lot of energy though. "First shelter. Juniper, can you go look for like a natural shelter? I don't want to build anything that would look out of the ordinary. It's too suspicious. Melanie. You just stay here with me okay? We'll figure out what we can and can't eat here."

hailey ran from the fire with all her strength, the bird she'd caught earlier forgotten. she'd been separated from kipper, but that wasn't her main concern. after a short while, she came across a creek, which she promptly threw herself in. she sat in it for a while, but then felt something nibbling on her fingers. she looked down to see sharp-toothed fish surrounding her. hailey leapt from the creek, and began running again, this time vaguely northeast. eventually, the forest thinned, and she came across a gigantic gorge. looking back at the flaming forest, hailey made a split-second decision, beginning her laborious descent.

mason ran alongside lorin from the fire, stopping short at the sight of careers in the field. lorin ran for the cornucopia, but mason turned and ran north, to a barren-looking land. he looked over his shoulder constantly, jogging/walking through the foothills. finally, he decided he'd gone far enough, and looked for a crevice to hide in. finding one, he shoved himself inside, settling down to rest. he heard a distant cannon boom. i hope that wasn't lorin.

Cassia glanced at the axe smiling. "I need a better weapon. The sword is to.. formal." She said, crossing to the weapon pile to find a double headed axe. "There- two heads with one weapon." she said, lips curling up into a smile at her attempt at a joke.

Juniper nodded, but didn't actually believe him. She walked through the orchard, trying not to stray too far from Melanie and Benji, looking for anything that they could use. She found a slowly flowing creek, with a large tree leaning over it. The flow of the creek curved away from the tree, making a shallow indent in the ground that went down to the bank. It would be good enough shelter to conceal them, at least for the night. Juniper realized the sun was beginning to set. They had narrowly survived the first day, would it be even worse tomorrow? She walked back and told the group about what she had found, then lead them back to the creek. "We should take watch in shifts." She elected.

Joshua wasn't the best at survival skills, he had a basic idea of what plants were edible, but he didn't want to bet Kyra's life on that. He glanced in the creek and then back at the spear. It wasn't ideal but maybe they could catch a fish? Of course they'd need a fire to cook it but who would be able to tell campfire smoke from forest fire smoke right now. "Do you uh... know how to spear fish?" He asked.

She nodded at this, falling silent. Melanie felt really guilty, and she wanted to provide for her team, not be a burden. She looked at her glittery pink shoes in thought, missing her home town and family deeply.

He chuckled, patting Cassia on the back playfully. "Some bloodthirsty girl you are. If I was one of the other tributes, I would be scared to death of you!" Daniel looked back at the flames, which were starting to die down and leave the trees burnt to a crisp in a dark gray and black color.

Kyra thought about it. "Well, I'm not an expert, but I do know how to fish." She gently took the spear back from him and handed him the knife instead, then got closer to the water. She relaxed, the cold water on her feet felt way more relaxing than she imagined it would be. She eyed the water, readying the spear and waiting patiently. It felt like hours to her despite it only being a few minutes, but a decent sized salmon eventually appeared. She tried to time it right, and at the last moment, swung. The spear impaled the fish right at the head, and she swiped it up. "Got one. Can you start a fire to cook this with?"

Usually a bright green in nature like this means toxic." He pointed out a glowing toxic green fruit. "Don't, whatever you do, eat the green ones." Benji warned. "Now I'll take first shift." He stated like it was obvious. He winced slight, dried blood crusting on his skin, pain shooting through his body.
