"Of course you do." Karter paused to look her right in the eye. "This world's unpredictable, as we’ve known well by now, and heaven only knows what’s gonna happen, but no matter what happens, there’s never a goodbye. If ever for some reason we're separated..." he smiled just the slightest bit. "I will always find my way back to you."

BAILEY hated goodbyes because they never ended well, but Karter didn’t seem worried. “Yeah... what now?” She asked in a soft voice.

Karter shook his head at the question, and wished that he had a suitable answer. "I...I dunno," he admitted. "For now, we bide our time for a few hours. Hope for our test results. They said we’d get our results sometime today." He nodded towards where a nurse was entering the room with a clipboard. "I can only assume that’s her."

Bailey felt fear freezing her veins, and she tried to open her mouth to find the words, but she couldn’t move. “Oh no...” she whispered, her eyes darting over towards Karter. “What... happens if we are immune” she whispered.

"If we are Immune...we pray that Janson doesn't call us up, and know that we're safe from the disease...forever. Can’t get infected. For those who AREN'T Immune, they'd just be normal people, at risk, inevitably they’ll catch the disease sooner or later. Unless WICKED'S cure's found, but it'd be a miracle at this point, so all we can do is try our darnedest to get to the loadin' dock that'll take us to the Safe Haven. Away from the disease."

BAILEY felt panic flare through her veins, and she farted her eyes over to Karter. “What about you? Are you fully healed from the sting?” She asked in a whisper.

Karter raised his free hand to his shoulder. He had a long scar on his left side, and had been stung on the other side. "No...the only lingerin' effect it's had on me is my emotions get all riled up from time to time, but I never suffer much for it anymore. The pain sank in and after a while...it became part of me. If they detected any abnormalities, or anythin' that’d be risky, anyway, they’d say somethin'. The only times it ever flared up were the first time I fought James, and..." his voice caught in his throat, becoming shaky. "The time I attacked you. I think that’s...gotta me the worst thing I ever did. I couldn’t stop myself, but I could see what was goin' on. I THINK I'm okay now though."

Perhaps...but could that really be? That I’m actually strong enough on the inside to have survived that and started to recover? Or is it simply because I’ve been in a mostly controlled environment? No. It has to be the first. I’m not able to lift dozens of pounds, but I’m still strong. He decided.

BAILEY gently raised her hand to Karter’s cheek, rubbing the surface gently with her thumb. “No matter what happened, and what’s to come, you’re the same person to me” she pointed out with a soft voice. Her heart thumped inside her chest, the danger of the situation dawning on her. They had to get out of there soon, she hoped everyone would make it.

"You’re the best," Karter responded, though his voice was a mumble, and a faint blush had appeared on his face at the feeling of her touch to his cheek. He made no move to pull away though, if anything savouring the touch, however light it was. He didn’t care in the moment about test results, about any of it. After all, it was the people that mattered, and this moment, here and now, was precious.

BAILEY smiled slightly and sighed deeply, her heart no longer aching. For the moment, she felt happy. She didn’t care what the future brought, as long as she was with Karter. Bailey cleared her throat and sat up straight reaching for her drink. “I want to get out of here as soon as possible” she sighed, shaking her head.
