"You're asking for a lot of faith" Bailey chuckled, shaking her head. She sighed slightly and glanced over Karter's shoulder at the guards. She frowned and turned away.

"I know, Bee. I’m askin' a lot of you, especially after what'cha know, and what we’ve all been through, but I promise," Karter swore, taking her hand. "I promise I’ll deliver you guys to the docks, get'cha ALL to the Safe Haven, where WICKED'll never find ya again. Where the Gladers'll be protected, and well fed and sheltered, where there’s safety and freedom. No more tests, no more experiments. Just open air."

Bailey couldn't help but feel slightly awkward as they continue to talk. She hated confrontation, and this chat was one she hadn't expected to have. But he was glad for it. "Yeah... what do we do when we get there?" she asked.

"Well...I’ve never been to the Safe Haven myself, or else, I probably wouldn’t've come back to THIS." Karter spread his arms wide, looking around the cafeteria. "But I guess after boardin' the Berg, upon landin', the pilots'll give out instructions of some sort," he guessed.

Jaiden noticed his forced smile and her eye twitched feeling bad for interrupting him and for making him feel like he always had to put on a happy brave face. She wondered if she should say something about it, but then she decided to stay silent about it for the time being. Her face paled a bit at the mention of the strange creature. "What do you think those things are like?" She asked, a quiver in her voice. "Were there just pictures or were there descriptions or something?"

Awkwardness washed over him. "I...didn’t check for writin'. I saw the picture and got so spooked by it I just slammed the book shut again," Newt admitted. He set down his spoon next to his bowl of oatmeal, suddenly not hungry as he remembered the picture in the book. "I dunno WHAT it was, but it didn’t look like anythin' pleasant."

The young girl shrugged her shoulders slightly and she sighed, hanging her head slightly. "I just hope everyone gets the life we all deserve" she muttered.

"That’s the plan," he agreed. "After all...every person deserves to live their life for themselves. I use to believe in WICKED. I use to think their work was for the greater good." He kept his voice down, just in case any of the guards were listening in. "I thought I could help save people if I worked with them, but it’s been killin' more people than it’s been savin'. I’ve seen too many people- includin' people I’ve called friends- die. I’m sick of it. I’m gettin' you guys to the loadin' docks, and to the Safe Haven. A place of true freedom, where people live lives for themselves, and aren’t tools for some sick cause like this. Where people can have a real home, real jobs, grow up, get married, have families..." his voice trailed off, and a small smile came to the brown haired boy's face for once.

Bailey let out a shaky sigh as she listened to Karter. She reached out her hand and gently held his hand. “Married with Kids” she smiled slightly.

"That might be the future for each and every one of us sittin' 'round these tables right now," Karter noted, and a smile, a genuine, true smile, came to his face. "And that’s why I’ve gotta lead you guys there. So that kind of life can be yours, instead of..." he looked around and shook his head. "Whatever this disaster is." He turned back to meet her beautiful eyes. "One day, Bee. One day, we're gonna have that life. We won’t just be talkin' ‘bout it. We'll be livin' it for ourselves."
