Uciel nodded. As far as they had known, the Glade, the Maze...that was their reality. With their memories stolen from them, it was all they had ever known. They had never seen the world outside and committed it to memory. "Aren’t you...at all scared?" He finally asked. He didn’t want to darken the mood, but it came out before he could stop himself. "I mean, heading out first into the Maze, then into...well...the real world? The world we have no idea about?" He finished.

The Runner couldn’t HONESTLY deny it, but he refused to openly admit it either. I’m response, Karter just eyed Kane for a long moment, then rolled his eyes and looked away, swatting at the Track-Hoe. "Pffft. Slim it, slinthead," he muttered, but his voice was quiet and halfhearted.

He grinned, then turned and headed over to the table again to sit down, facing Karter.

"Yes and no? I'm kind of worried that grievers will show up on our way out.. but after that, I'm just excited to get out." she frowned slightly. "Do you think there will be? Grievers I mean."

Karter sat down again, staring down at the wooden table, his face almost expressionless but for the almost invisible start of a smile that formed in the corner of his lip. Somehow or other, Kane always found a way to both infuriate him and endear himself to the Runner, and it had brought them to...this. Whatever this was.

I’m a fool. I should never have let stupid stuff like emotions get in my head. It’ll only mess things up in the end. Especially once we're outta here and back with WCKD. Then what? The boy asked himself.

"I’m NOT tryin' to get on your nerves or be rude or anythin' like that," Newt promised. He’d dealt with some difficult people before, but it was hard to know how or when to approach Harlow, or what one was suppose to say, if anything at all. If she wasn’t acknowledged, she was mad. If she was acknowledged, she was snappish, so he was at a loss for what to do about that.

"The Runners know things 'bout the Maze," he noted. But that was expected, wasn’t it? That was, after all, their entire job. Learn about the Maze. "You say it like there’s somethin' I’m missing here."

"I really hate to rain on anyone's parade, but I’m almost a hundred percent sure there'll be Grievers," Uciel admitted, twisting the loose cuff of his sleeve. It would make him uneasy if there weren’t, after three years of being trapped in what seemed an almost unsolvable puzzle. "I doubt after all this time, all this effort, after making the Grievers, they would simply...let us walk right out of here," he explained.

Doesn’t mean I look forward to it. I’m not a fighter, but there’s no reasoning with Grievers. He reminded himself. "I think that’s why Newt said to arm ourselves. He thinks it’ll come down to a fight."

Karter tensed, but didn’t pull away. "Y'know what, I'm gonna..." He shook his head. I don’t know what WCKD has in store for us, but the Ending is coming, and it’ll shake the Glade to its roots... "I'm gonna head back to the Homestead or somethin', start gatherin' what I’ll need for tomorrow's run. You got anythin'?"

Bailey ~ Runner ~ Tags: Caleb

Bailey's breathing was slightly shaky, her mind still trying to process everything that happens a few hours beforehand. "I hadn't expected them to find something... you know... with THAT much importance" she muttered out loud to no one in particular. Bailey's hands lay in her lap as she swung gently back and forth on the hammock, her gaze starring intensely on the ground. "It's not too soon, right? I mean, we HAVE been stuck in here for years so it's not that much of a shock. It's what we have been working towards, I guess" she added louder this time, dragging her gaze back to Caleb. She relaxed her face slightly, relieving the hardened frown from her face. Her movements that had been frantic and direct moments before were now relaxed and near exhaustion as she continued to look at Caleb, the corners of her mouth twitching slightly as she tried to smile. Her head gently lolled onto Caleb's shoulder as he came to sit beside her. She couldn't tell how he felt about this, but when comparing his reaction to hers, her must be more relax than she was. Maybe surprised, but not nearly as pedantic.

"Yeah, ok. That's probably a smart idea. It would put me at ease a little bit, I guess" the young runner chuckled nervously at the end of her sentence. "Oh, uh, of course I'm fine with this. What are your thoughts?" she asked Caleb, relaxing slightly into his arms now that she wasn't so uptight. "Hopefully we get out of here ok" she added.

Surprise flashed through Newt. And alarm. Was that what Kane had been trying to talk to him about, that had put Karter into such a panic? Karter had certainly never mentioned anything about memories when he had come up, be that having them, or lack of them. He hadn’t thought much of it in the moment.

"So...Karter knew, for more than a year, and he didn’t try to do anythin' about it." It wasn’t a question, it was just the boy registering the facts. That didn’t quite make sense. Karter had always seemed just as passionate as any of the other Runners about getting out.

Newt couldn’t deny being surprised that WCKD had sent TWO people- if not more!- up, one with memories, and one without. Why would they take Harlow's memories if she was one of them? The flashes of memory here and there make sense then. He didn’t want to believe her. He didn’t want to believe that one of the people who had supposedly been helping them all this time had known all along and had said and done nothing about it.

"Well...I don’t see YOU as a criminal. You came here without your memories, and talked to me when you figured something out," he pointed out. Whether or not she came from WCKD, it was the right thing to do, in their current situation. "I'll be talkin' to that slinthead, then." His gaze fixed again on Harlow. "Do you think then it’s the real exit, or another stupid trick to try and make us think? I’m not sure who to trust or what to think anymore."

Again, he nodded. Disappointment washed over him. If he had told us the truth from the start, we coulda put it to good use, coulda made even more progress, and faster. What was the big idea? And why is he so desperate to hide it from us now? "Do you know if Kane...is also with WCKD?" He asked. "He approached me a few minutes ago sayin' he had somethin' he needed to tell me, and Karter flew into a panic."

Newt glanced back towards where the two sat together, Karter staring down at the table, and just for a brief moment, Newt's usually calm expression turned to one of frustration and almost...anger. They’d been stuck here an extra year, when it could’ve been just a couple extra MONTHS? And then there was the question of WHY? WHY had Karter in specific been sent up, of all the people they should’ve sent? A temperamental, edgy sixteen year old who had an apparent dislike of people as a whole. That didn’t make sense.

"I’m sorry for all the questions all of a sudden. It’s just...a lot to take in all at once, especially after knowin' this coulda gone a hundred different ways," he noted.

Bailey ~ Runner ~ Tags: Caleb

Bailey's legs gently bounced on the ground, an indicator of how nervous she was, but her face portrayed no emotions. She gently rested her head against Caleb's chest and tried to calm her thoughts. She smirked slightly at her foolishness and shook her head, shame making her cheeks slightly pink. "I'm normally relaxed, I don't know why I'm so uptight and stressed. I'm sorry if I'm being irritating" she apologised to a calm Caleb. She smiled slight and cuddled into his side, thankful for his calm façade. Really, it made her feel safe and was refreshing.

"I feel like we only ever miss out on the good things" Bailey chuckled slightly, her dark eyes flickering up to Caleb's. "Maybe it's my clumsiness that makes us, or rather, me such bad luck. I seems as though I have to left feet" she chuckled at his comment, feeling light and happily distracted for a few moments. "It is just the routine that I'm afraid of loosing and the impending danger?" she asked, nibbling on her bottom lip. Her eyes drifted to gaze out the window towards the open maze doors, as if expecting something to happen. She shook her head at this thought. "What do you think we will do? I mean, once everything is over and we are finally safe again, what's our next plan?" Bailey asked as if Caleb knew all the answers to her problems. She didn't want to be a burden to him, of course. "I'm glad too. It'll be nice not to feel so... trapped" she pointed out, closing her eyes lazily. Bailey's breath gently caught in her throat and she gently returned the kiss, pressing her forehead against Caleb's. "Yeah, I'm sure we will" she finally agreed.
