"Well...we’ve used the last of it, and I haven’t checked the supplies that came up with Harlow yet, but the last time we got any was three months ago," he remembered. "How it works? Well...we're not quite sure. What we know is it’s some fancy syringe. We inject it into the arm or chest of an infected person...and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, then there’s nothing we can do, and the poor shank is lost," he said, his hands shaking just the slightest bit.

"Hm. Do they fully recover?" Noah felt a tinge of nervousness. Supposedly Grievers didn't come out during the day. But some runners claimed they saw the 'tail' of one. He watched the figure the of a Griever or (what the Gladers thought they looked like.) burn in the fire. A few sticks of it burn through enough where they fell off and fell into the fire with a klunk. He adjusted himself on the grass crossing his legs together and narrowed his eyes. "I wonder what those things really look like." He wondered out loud.

She looked at her the questions in her head came out, "sure....but why'd you get all tense, surely it wasnt because of just me." she hesitated. "planning something?" she asked.
She chuckled slightly to the beetle blades comment "maybe you would have more people liking you if you didnt act the way you did. " she said bluntly. When she looked at harlow she felt this suspicion rise, even though her explanation was she wanted to be alone harlow did act very tense when she showed up, to vi it seemed like she was hiding something.

She glanced at him for a second before back at the cup. "alright let's go." she said as she drank from the cup since speed didnt matter she didnt chug it. But it was already half empty. Her eyes watched caleb and bailey for a moment before looking back at the cup.

"If the serum works, mostly, aside from having some...disturbing memories, from what I hear," Uciel told him. He tilted his head to the side. "I don’t know what it looks like, and..." he shuddered. "I hope I’ll never have to."

Karter grinned, and carefully- though still quickly- drank. Alcohol had a terribly bitter taste, but over the past year or so, he had become accustomed to it. An acquired taste, to be sure, and many couldn’t stand the brew, but he found it helped him ease his worries... though he’d never quite been DRUNK.

She ignore the whole rant of her being curious, a part of her wanted to believe It but she was still suspicious.
Violet could feel her blood boil to her comments but she didnt show her. "I dont know where you get off thinking you know me. But I dont suck up to people, Greenie. I simply am happy because I want others around me to be happy too. I'm kind, not to suck up to people but because I like being nice to people, nothing more nothing less. But you know the weird thing is, I dont when I'm near you. You came out of that box and spoke down to everyone around you, shooed them away like animals, like they were beneath you," she paused. "if you think changing yourself and having some human decency towards others are the same, then you have a lot to learn.
We struggle enough here and already have enough problems we dont need another thing added to the list. " she said harshly.

She pushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Breaking the silence between them "so what did you talk to bailey about anyways?" she asked bluntly. She drank some more as she looked over to him.

Bailey II Runner

Bailey couldn’t help but glance over at Karter and Blaire. She worried that she had messed up her friendship with Karter, and her heart felt heavy for a second. <I’ll have to apologies to him later> she decided to herself. She turned back to Caleb and noticed his outstretched hand. She took it, her heart no longer heavy, but rather... light and fluttery. She noticed his grin and smiled, her eyes glittering slightly. “What was that for?” She asked Caleb and she was led away from all the hustle of the party.

Karter glanced briefly at Bailey as she was led off somewhere by Caleb. He refilled his drink and offered a refill to Blaire in turn as she spoke. "What DID I talk to her 'bout? Not a whole lot. Drinkin' contest, who's more likely to win, just lighthearted stuff like that," he explained. "Kinda like we use to," he added with a nonchalant shrug.

She handed her cul to him as he offered nodding a 'thank you're in return. "sounds like fun..." she said but her voice was lightly laced with a sullen tone. She didnt have that with someone, if anything everyone was more of acquaintances with her, nothing she could really joke around like the "good ol' days". Without realizing it she asked "what's that like..." seconds after she forced a nonchalant expression on. Watching bailey and caleb pass by her, she was over it. There was no chance for her to even try wherever caleb was there was bailey and if bailey wasnt there caleb would make it an effort to find her. blaire was trying to come to terms she should just give up and move on. And promise herself she wouldnt let herself feel this way again. She flipped her focus out of her head as she glanced at caleb and bailey again before back at karter.

She rolled her eyes "I didnt say you couldn't be overwhelmed or feel trapped. I was trying to say there was a better way of dealing with it, could've just asked us to leave instead of the degrading way you did...." she said as she mimicked harlow. "why is that sooo hard to understand?" she repeated.
She couldnt understand harlows feelings because her mind protected her from thinking of coming out of the box negatively.
"they were right you put up that tough front when you really are just a scared little girl." she muttered under her breath.
In the beginning she really just was trying to check on harlow but the tone of her voice always seemed to rub her wrong. She stayed standing there as harlow walked away. Biting her tongue from saying anything more that she wouldnt be able to take back.

He refilled her drink and set the container on the ground next to him as Blaire spoke. Karter was...surprised by the question to say the least. What's that like? She'd asked. She’d spoken as if...she’d never had a connection like that. Bailey had been close to Karter once. He could and would never deny she had been his best friend, and they’d been able to joke and talk all the time before...well he wasn’t sure what changed, but something did. Still though, he smiled at the warm memories he hadn’t dared to bring up again even in his own mind in a long time.

A year and a half ago, it was me asking that exact same question. The brown haired boy remembered, almost painfully. He tilted his head back to take a swig from his drink before returning to neutral position, blue-flecked hazel eyes once more fixing on his fellow Runner.

"It’s...never somethin' I thought I’d be asked, since I'M usually the solitary one," he admitted. "It’s good. To have someone you know you can rely on, someone you can always approach without worry, who would greet'ya with open arms, to joke 'round with, or just talk about...anythin' on the mind." He paused for a long moment. "Sometimes it doesn’t last, but it’s somethin' to hold onto when ya get the chance. It ain’t easy to build up to that point though." He frowned. "Have you...never had a friend like that?" He finally asked.

Bailey II Runner

Bailey followed Caleb, not dropping the boys hand, it was almost as if she... wanted to hold it. She cringed inwardly. "I'm so sorry, you probably want... your hand back?" she said, but it probably sound like more of a question. She followed after Caleb and sat down on the log, turning her body to face Caleb. Noticing his wide eyes, she couldn't help but grin. "Don't be like that. Why were you grinning at me?" she asked, noting that she had forgetting her drink. She leaned closer to him, trying to hear what he was saying over the din of the Gladers socialising around the fire. Her eyes searched his, studying Caleb for a second.
