『𝐣𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐲』

Jade's eyes snapped open to the strange sight of a dense canopy of foliage above her and the unforgiving firmness of the dirt beneath her. Quite odd, she thought, seeing as she was most definitely sure that she had fallen asleep in her own bed and not on the ground. One thing was for sure, though: her head was killing her. Clutching her head in pain, she slowly managed to sit up and further take in her surroundings. There was no sign of anyone else around... not even footprints upon the soil. Interesting. Who could have possibly taken her from the comfort of her home and dumped her in the middle of the Twelveswood? Well, she supposed, she just teleport back to the nearest aetheryte in Gridania and go from there. But as she attempted to cast Teleport, Jade was having a particularly hard time finding an aetheryte that she was attuned to. Which was... unnerving, to say the least. So she tried again. And again. These attempts proved in vain, though, as Jade soon found that there were no aetherytes she could detect. Jade's eyebrows furrowed as her ears flattened to the sides of her head, quite puzzled. So, if she wasn't in the Twelveswood, then where was she? She rose a hand to her ear, tapping her linkpearl, a small piece of technology used to communicate with her allies. And while she had expected to hear at least some sort of feedback or staticky hissing, which would at least let her know the linkpearl was still functional, Jade heard naught but a deafening, deeply unsettling silence.

The silence was broken by a sudden rustling noise coming from nearby shrubbery. Her feline ears swiveled toward the source of the noise. Jade quickly rose to her feet, clutching her cane, arming herself, and pivoting toward the source of the noise in one fluid motion. Eyes fixated on the bush, her tail begin to nervously twitch. But alas, the rustling noise was nothing... but a harmless little rabbit. It looked up at her with a vacant expression with glossy black eyes before scurrying away. Phew.

"well," she began to idly muse, "i might as well do a bit of exploration to see where exactly i am..." Jade grasped her cane in one hand, using it as sort of a walking stick as she traversed the thick blanket of haze before her. Narrowing her eyes, she zeroed in on a faint yellow-white light flickering in the distance, shining through the mist. As she approached, she was greeted with the sight of a cobblestone pathway lined with candle-lit lanterns. Aha! Her ears and tail perked up slightly at her fortunate find. Maybe it lead to a settlement, she thought, where she could get some sort of knowledge as to where exactly she was. Jade's heels clacked upon the pavement as she sauntered down the path, stumbling blindly through this strange new world. In a way, it reminded her of the time she spent as a brand-new adventurer in the realm of Eorzea. She smiled with a strange sort of sentimentality to nobody in particular as she reminisced on those halycon days.

      Genji Shimada!!
xxxxmale thirty-five years old overwatch tagged: luca
      ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Chuckling softly at Luca's words, Genji gave a small shake of his head. "It seems I have a habit of meeting people under unfortunate circumstances," he admitted. In a way it was amusing to the cyborg. His whole meeting with those he worked with now had started from an unfortunate situation yet they were the ones he had grown closest too, especially Angela. He had also met Zenyatta under questionable circumstances. It wasn't something terrible, but rather when he was in a poor state of mind thus why he considered it such. Perhaps meeting important people during these times was his hidden talent. Yet again he was amused by his own thinking. Such a thing seemed so silly and he wasn't even sure how important the boy would be although he figured if they would be working together in this place that he would at least become important as an ally. That was enough for the ninja to accept this was somehow a similar thing as the other times. Pushing that thought aside though, Genji dropped his arms from his chest as he heard Luca continue on. The way he brought forth his question was polite although as he had stated it was quite direct. He had no problems with such things though. He much rather get straight to the point than beat around the bush. Besides, he had nothing to hide. The cyborg was more willing these days to speak of himself and his capabilities than he had been in the past. However, he couldn't help but wonder why such a question would be raised. Why specifically abilities when it should be clear that he was armed with weapons. Even though it was odd to ask, he wondered if it might be because Luca himself had no special abilities. Looks could always be deceiving, but to him the boy seemed like a normal teenager albeit one that had a different fashion sense than what he was used to seeing.

"I do have abilities," Genji finally confirmed as he pulled himself from questioning why Luca might have asked. "For basics, I have trained as a ninja and my cybernetic body has enhanced my capabilities as such allowing me to move faster, climb things with ease and even be quite acrobatic when needed." Of course those were simple things he could do. He hadn't even touched on things like his ability to deflect bullets or even that he could summon a dragon spirit with his katana. It was probably best to bring both those things forth now while it was a topic. It wasn't as if he needed to hide it. Placing a hand on his hip, Genji shifted his weight more so to his left side than his right as he thought over how he was going to proceed. "As it should be clear, I also is trained with both my katana and wakizashi. They too are used to help me with certain abilities. My wakizashi helps me deflect bullets while I can summon a spirit dragon with my katana. I'm sure these things should suffice in keeping us safe." The ninja's words were an attempt to be reassuring and even a smile formed on his lips although it would go unseen anyways. He hoped these things would assure the boy that he was indeed in good hands working alongside him. However, that lead Genji to be curious. He shouldn't be the only one sharing exactly what he was capable of doing. Returning the question only seemed fair for him so he could assess exactly what kind of protection he would need to provide if any at all. "What about you? Do you have any abilities or even any weapons on you?"

      Makoto Niijima!!

It seemed her whole costume comment had been taken in a direction Makoto hadn't been expecting. Rubbing the back of her neck, a soft sigh escaped her lips. "Well, we don't make the costumes ourselves," she informed him. She wasn't sure how to explain exactly what was going on with the outfit given that it was a reflection of her inner rebel and was given to her because of her status as a persona user. That was something that she could not come out and simply say. It was much like her own name. Throwing out such a thing would lead to complications in a sense. Pushing that aside, she racked her mind for some kind of explanation. "We actually were given them to match our, uh, personalities." That felt sufficient enough although she had to admit it was a bit of a shady response. It was all she could think of though. Hopefully he wouldn't question it any farther. For now she had to simply hope that it was good enough and move on herself. Focusing on what he said next, she gave a small nod at his words though she wasn't sure what or who "Pod" was. What was even more confusing was that he asked it to search for android signals. Tilting her head in confusion, she couldn't help wondering why exactly he had decided to specifically search for such a thing rather than something like humans. However when she heard the voice of what she assumed was Pod, Makoto felt her question was answered. He searched for androids because that was what he was. Did that mean wherever he had come from was full of them? She could only assume, but that also meant that he had probably thought that she was one as well. From his reaction, she felt that her thoughts were on the right track though it seemed that he hadn't been expecting her to be something else. This was certainly something she hadn't been anticipating nor did she expect she would come across. What was worse was she hadn't even noticed that he was not a human like her. It was just as much a shock to her as it was to him although her reaction was far more subdued.

"You thought I was an android, huh?" she asked, deciding to ignore his question of what she was for the moment. "I assume they are common where you came from. That helps me realize something..." Trailing off, Makoto was positive that she was on to something now. There was no doubt that they came from very different places, especially if the answer to her assumption was yes. There were no androids back in her home nor had she heard of there being a place with large amounts of them. Such a thing might exist within the Metaverse, but even then anything that remotely looking like a machine was usually a shadow. That was simply how things worked. Humming softly in thought, Queen rested a hand on her chin as she continued to process her own thoughts. It was obvious that she felt like she was in no danger despite the other clearly having a weapon on his being. Then again, she too had weapons of her own and she was sure he had seen the gun at her hip. The tekkos unfortunately were still on Johanna though within her mask, but all the same she had her persona at her fingertips as well if things got bad. Pushing that aside, she finally pulled herself from her thoughts and figured she should answer his question. Before she did so, she offered a faint smile in hope that it was calm him. "I want to assure you I won't hurt you, especially if my kind is not common where you're from," she started before taking a step closer to him. "I am a human, if you know what that is."

9S [04]

Postby Zaperrex » Sun Apr 05, 2020 3:28 am

    【YORHA UNIT 9S】
    【 MALE | ANDROID | NIER: AUTOMATA | TAGS: MAKOTO 】

Not an android. Not a machine. The third option hurts too much to consider, so he doesn't. Not until she comes right out and claims it herself. His lip curls, revulsion coursing through him at this-this blasphemy. But why does he care? There’s no meaning to any of it.

On his silent command, the small, black and red tactical support unit known as Pod 153 drifts down to hover next to his face. “Can you detect humans?” he asks quietly. He feels kind of dirty for even humouring the idea. But he needs to be sure. "Specifically, I mean." Organic isn't enough. Could be some kind of shapeshifting alien for all he knows. In lieu of a reply, 153 glides towards Queen at an leisurely speed.

It scans her from head to toe, then back the other way. “Target confirmed to be human,” it announces, in the same monotone it uses for everything. Like it’s not shattering 9S’s worldview all over again. It returns to its original position floating behind his shoulder.

“But...” He’s utterly lost. His shoulders sag a little as he ceases assessing Queen as a potential threat. A rush of heady euphoria hits him all at once and a broad, almost dreamy smile spreads across his face. He takes a step towards Queen without even noticing. It’s like a switch has been flipped, or maybe a Boolean variable, and he’s not sure he’s ever felt such a thrill in his life. “You’re a human? Oh my god... I... I never thought I'd...” He circles around her like he’s marvelling at a masterpiece, taking in every detail before he seems to snap out of it, bowing his head in contrition. “I’m so sorry I didn't believe you, ma’am, I didn’t realize... I didn’t think there were any humans on Earth!” Or anywhere. But it's safer to repeat the old lie, at least until he gets a better idea of what's going on. He raises his left arm over his chest in a practiced motion. “Glory to mankind!” There’s a puppy-like enthusiasm in his voice and on his face. Slowly, his grin slides to sheepish again. “Um, if you could explain... what did you mean by 'where I’m from?' You mean Earth?”

He’d caught what she’d been saying, but he’d been too busy being absurdly angry to really process it until now. And he still can’t quite fit the pieces together, at least not confidently, but it hardly seems to matter when there’s an actual human being right in front of him. One he can see, and he’s talked to, and he could (if he dared) even touch. The meaning to his existence.

Lu was a bit surprised by the man’s reaction. Surely he could tell she was a demon, right? Even if this was a foreign realm she had never seen a human older than 10 react so calmly after seeing her. She almost couldn’t believe there was a realm with humans like this. After realizing this she couldn’t help but laugh. Humans really were an interesting bunch. Some were scared of their own shadow and others ran straight into danger. After a couple seconds of reigning in her laughter Lu cleared her throat and answered the male.

”Indeed, unfortunately I seem to have been transported here...Now that I think about it, Rosso probably did this, that annoying brat. Lu was momentarily distracted by the memory of the fight with Rosso but quickly dismissed it as she continued to speak. As she talked she walked right up to the man, stopping in front of him with her hands on her hips. She was quite a bit shorter than him but nevertheless she looked him right in the eyes.“Anyway, whether you believe me or not doesn’t matter, all I need you to do is lead me to your village. In fact, anywhere with a gathering of humans will do.” Lu didn’t bother waiting for a reply, instead she turned on her heel and walked a few feet away. She took a good look around but turned towards the human again. “I would assume it’s somewhere around here correct? Come on then, I need to leave this place quickly.”

Luca [ 3 ] // Nero [ 3 ]

Postby Reiji » Mon Apr 06, 2020 11:39 pm

      Luca Dragomir // Male // 17 // JJBA oc // tags; Genji
Upon hearing Genji's explanation, Luca continued to factor his decisions. Genji was an oddly nice stranger, Luca trusted him even more when he told in detail of his abilities. It does confirm to Luca however that they may not be of the same world- a concept Luca could easily believe. It hasn't happened before but expecting the unexpected and finding irrational explanations was more or less something Luca had been accustomed to. He nodded along to Genji's clarification of abilities. It was something refreshing to meet someone like Genji. "Well, I have something that is called a stand which is like... a manifestion of your life energy. You can't see it, I don't think. Only other stand users can see someone else's stand." Luca recalled the information he had of stands. He knew very well about stands, mostly from listening in on his father but he wasn't very good at explaining. Especially not something as complicated as this. "It can still affect the real world, I could make it punch you and you'd still feel it- not that I will!" Luca put his hands up defensively as he flustered, realizing he just made things a little bit awkward by saying that. It does make him wonder- how could a non-stand user fare against a stand user? He knew how easy it is to fight against normal people due to it, he had used it in the past. How do you fight something you can't see or touch? The only option is to attack the user, which is still an obstacle. Well, it's not like it's something he'd be testing on Genji. That's just... rude. "My stand also has an ability but it's ah... hard to explain." Luca continued, giving his explanation the same treatment Genji had given him. He wouldn't have done this it was 'back home' since you shouldn't be revealing to everyone about how your stand works. It's not something you show to everyone. "My stand, Coin Locker Baby, exists in the fourth dimension. Space time, I think. Even if you were a stand user, you can't see some parts of it unless it comes out fully." Luca brought out his hand and raised it- like he was waving. He gave Genji a look, he himself unsure if this was a good idea or if Genji would understand. "Coin Locker Baby." Luca said and blankly stared at Genji before being pulled away out of sight. It was like he was grabbing out of thin air. He was gone in that split second.

Four seconds had passed when Luca came back. He had a gentle smile on his face and he had the back of his hand on his neck, feeling his body's warmth as well as to distract himself from a slight headache. "You... were smiling under your mask. You're a good person." Luca's distrust was gone. He couldn't have seen that without CLB's ability but Genji didn't know that. His smile was genuine when he was assuring Luca. It was... warming. As someone who's used to coldness, a little bit of warmth was true comfort. Like a snug bed and blanket during a snow day. "Well, even I get a headache trying to use my stand's ability. I don't want to give you one by explaining it." Luca admitted, giggling at the truth of his situation. CLB's ability has a lot of potential to grow and develop but he had primarily used it for simple tasks so Luca doesn't know everything that it can do or how to use them to it's extent. "I can do a lot for us both, is the simple answer." Luca titled his head and looked away shyly, unsure how to proceed.

      Nero // Male // 22 // Devil May Cry // tags; Phantasma
Nero squinted at the mention that the ghosts may know more than just his name. Well, that's a bummer to not have an element of surprise about him but it does get rid of the hassle of introducing himself and any ruckus that may happen. It hasn't said anything about the whole demon thing to Phantasma. Nero listened in as Phantasma asked the ghosts for more information about this place and the sweet and simple explanation. He got the gist of it. They're both from different worlds and somehow got here, there might be more around but not close enough. There's also other creatures other than that griffin- explains the huge boar. Haven't seen one that big, not that Nero eats pork. Then, Phantasma turned around to check in on Nero and talk to him about what they had just talked about. Nodding along to it, Nero just grinned. "Don't worry ghosts, I can handle any danger that will get Phantasma- or me." He said with confidence. Then, they headed off into the forest with Phantasma calling up to Nero to follow. Following a kid around... Honestly, that's a better idea than being lost, especially when the kid in particular has two ghosts that just knows things. It's pretty resourceful. This might even be fun. Though, hopefully, he won't be babysitting anyone.

Nero had followed Phantasma and their ghosts for some time, all the mean time he was looking around the forest and checking out Phantasma's outfit. Not in any sort of concerning way but it was mostly due to the book that Phantasma had. It was a curious item of interest. "Got a story behind that book of yours?" Nero asked, inquiring more about this strange new kid he had just met. It's both out of curiosity and caution. Not that he's scared of a child... On second thought, Phantasma looked more like a teen and having been a teen himself just a few years ago, teens are indeed scary.

      Chisa Chikafuji // Male // 28 // oc // tags; open
Chisa dangled his legs off the tree near the waterfall. The water isn't shallow but it isn't deep enough for a full bath. Chisa had woken nearby and was attracted by the rushing sound of the stream as the water crashed against the stone. He had learned about waterfalls before. He may have lived in the capital city his whole life and never went out of the country but his curiosity makes him excited to learn about new things, even if it seems small or insignificant- like the existence of waterfalls or different bodies of water. His tail wagged as he watched mist of water coming from the waterfall. The whole forest was foggy but Chisa didn't rely on his vision too much in the first place. The sound of water, he loves hearing it. All of this, waking up in a strange place with new smells and new things to see, it didn't bother him. Though, he sure misses his dear Yasuo... he wants his friend in the cat family to see this wonderful place. That butcher- he really needs to enjoy life more and especially get away from that pet of his. Humans can't be trusted, they're going to one day do something crafty to you if you let your guard down. Chisa tried to warn Yasuo this but the former would simply laugh it off, making Chisa sad. Yawning, he curled up on the thick tree branch and slept. The sound of the waterfall is so nice.

Phantasma || Nonbinary || 15 || Tags; Nero

With Nero behind Phantasma one of the ghosts decided to stay behind with him just in case he gets lost from the thick fog. Better safe than sorry. Phantasma looks around in wonder and amazement seeing the island inhabiting many things taking note of it and as well comparing it to their home world. Phantasma had a small worrying thought about their friends back home. ‘I hope the two are okay without me since I am not around to scope out enemies.’ The teen let out a quiet sigh. ‘No they’ll be fine. They’re capable of protecting themselves.’ Phantasma thought to themselves confidently then their thoughts were interrupted by Nero’s question.

Oh great this question. They really hated this question but Nero really doesn’t know anything about the teen except their name so he didn’t know he touched a sensitive topic. Phantasma’s smile faltered a bit but they got it together quickly. The ghost looked at Phantasma with worry of how they reacted with that question. “Ah this book? I haven’t finished reading it since it's my school homework to do an essay about it's no big deal.” Phantasma answered quickly. They were lying about it but they just don’t want to elaborate it more into details of the so-called school homework. They just rather not remember that uneventful day more yet their past gets a bit hazy as time goes on. It might be the books doing since it is cursed but they aren’t really sure what it was when they got their hands on it on that day. Wait--no, no. Stop thinking about it.

“Mellow will you be alright?” Phantasma’s head perked up looking at the ghost, its face clearly showing worry to the child. “I know how you react to that question during the years being with you but please know the both of us are here for you.” The ghost said softly in reassurance. “Don’t worry about it! It's totally fine. Everything is fine for now. Anyway are we close?” The teen said looking around the area. “Just straight up ahead, there are some lights along the path so you’ll see it clearly as you get closer.” The ghost replied swiftly. The teen nodded at that and kept walking.
Finally seeing the path they noticed they were indeed some lights there. Lamps softly glowing with light along the cobblestone path making it look like it came out of a children’s fairy tale story. Well it seems like the group has to start somewhere from here. “Where do you think we should go from here?”

『𝐣𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐲』

As Jade sauntered down the cobblestone path, she heard a sudden voice from behind her. Ears pricking up in response to the noise, Jade whipped around to meet the source. She had to crane her neck up to meet his gaze, but the voice had apparently come from a tall Hyuran man with incredibly long blonde hair and pale yellow eyes. For a moment, she stumbled back in surprise at the sight of another living being in this strange place and instinctively began to reach for her cane. But once she got a good look at the man before her, she relaxed her posture and grinned, revealing two feline fangs.

"ah, hello there!" Jade chirped lightheartedly. "i'm jade. jade harley... pleasure to meet you!" She extended a hand out in the man's direction as to offer a handshake. He seemed pleasant enough, considering he didn't immediately start attacking her like many others had done before... so there was no harm in at least talking to him, right?

Negan lazily scratched the back of his neck as he listened to the girls theorize as to who had brought them here. Apparently, they had enemies where they were from (or at least an enemy), and also seemed reasonably confident that those enemies had the power to transport them to another dimension. Though, assuming that was all true (and, really, why not go along with it?), it left Negan a bit more impressed. Having rivals was one thing, but if their rivals were powerful enough to banish them to a completely different plane, then maybe these girls were more competent than they looked. Or, maybe that was just wishful thinking - but what other kind of thinking was there in a situation this outlandish? If nothing else, the one Negan had mentally labeled as the leader among the girls had now withdrawn her weapon back into its less threatening form, and she was currently gazing up at the sky - perhaps to calm herself down, as she seemed to be fuming at the thought that this 'Matthew' guy was behind this all. Negan doubted it - after all, why was he here, then? But, yet again, he had a hard time finding it any less rational than anything else that had happened up until now. "Okay - but why would I have wound up here, then?" He proposed, folding his arms as well as he could with Lucille still in his hand. "I don't even know this Phoenix kid, and as many people as there are back home who don't like me, I'm pretty sure none of them are in the habit of transporting people to other dimensions." It wasn't a direct question so much as it was a point of thought, mostly for himself. Though, at the moment, his thoughts were far too clouded to really parse anything, and he wasn't sure he would be able to get much out of this trio of strangers that would seriously help him. And, of course, he wasn't sure he even trusted these oddly nonchalant teenagers; there were simply way too many variables at work.

The girl laughed at him, apparently wildly amused by his reaction to her. Whatever it was about her that was unnatural and unsettling only amplified within Will's brain. What a frightening image she was; a childlike figure subtly brimming with power far beyond that which was apparent. Whether it was physical power or something of a more immaterial nature, such as rank and status or a keen and ruthless intellect, that was not yet clear. But she was strong in one way or another, immaculately confident and fearless of her surroundings. She was dangerous - even if only because she believed that she was. After her brief throe of laughter ended, the kid cleared her throat and quickly began rattling off orders. Being transported here without warning or explanation (apparently, she was in the same boat as Will himself) didn't seem to be a problem for her, but rather who was responsible for it. Will had no idea, himself, and in fact might have known even less than her; he didn't even understand how it was possible to have been transferred here, though the girl must have somehow to be unconcerned with that quandary. She was also not afraid to walk right up to Will, despite his being much larger than her physically, and look right at him. He deliberately avoided looking her in the eye; he was somewhat afraid of what lurked within the depths of her azure eyes. She then quickly demanded to be taken to his 'village', not realizing that just because he had mentioned such didn't mean he knew where one was. Personally, he didn't even know if there was a village anywhere near here. The bridge would indicate civilization somewhere, which was why he had innately gravitated towards it, but where the people where who had built it was a question he had no resources about him to answer. "Well, I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but, uh...I don't have a village. Not here, at least." He declared, adding the chaser to clarify that he was indeed from a civilized place (though not what he would call a 'village'). He followed the girl with his eyes, but didn't walk after her. She didn't know where she was going, after all, and just walking off in no particular direction wasn't wise from Will's point of view. He was concerned about the way she referred to 'humans' as if she wasn't one. Considering his previous train of thought, maybe that wasn't unreasonable? That wasn't mentioning her desire to go 'anywhere with a gathering of humans' - what was her intent with them? She said that she wanted out of this place quickly, but how exactly she intended to go about that (or whatever ulterior motives she had behind that) was anyone's guess. Nevertheless, Will extended an amiable offer. "I can help you look for a village, but I don't know where one is - or might be." He continued, idly strolling a few steps towards the young girl.

Mercury | Male | Robot | Tags; Open
Booting... Booting... Booted. Please await further command.
Mercury shook his head, as if that would get the automated voice out of his programming. As his systems buffered, the view of his surroundings flickered. Everything was foggy and white. Dragging a hand over his eyes, he wiped the condensation away, leaving tiny droplets across his sight.

When he could finally see properly, something immediately struck him as off. This place was full of greenery. It took a moment for him to put it all together. Where ever he was, it was not where he was meant to be. With a slight creak of his joints, he rose to his feet.

No hostiles. Return to base. The automated voice spoke again, but Mercury ignored it. Did he have a choice, anyways?

As he assessed his surroundings, he spotted a long cobblestone road winding into the forest, lit by lanterns. A graphic of a confused face briefly flickered across his sight. Mercury made a rattling sound, somewhat similar to a sigh. Do you wish to disable graphics? the voice asked. No matter how much he tried to respond yes, the command didn't go through. After a handful of error messages, he gave up with an even more drawn out rattle.

Seeing nothing else to do, he set off down the road.

Voxet Swiftstep | Male | Khajiit | Tags; Open |
A beetle crawled onto his face. Awaking with a startled hiss, Voxet vigorously shook his head until the bug fell off. He scrambled to his feet, nearly treading on his own tail. After standing there for a while, he realised just how foolish he would've looked, especially to a drunken Nord on his way to annoy the local Dunmer.

A couple moments passed. Voxet was barely thinking, staring blankly into space. The only fully formed thought that was circling his mind was a snippet of Ragnar the Red he had heard in a tavern. How he despised that song.

Get it together! he growled silently at himself. Looking around, a feeling of dread set in. Voxet didn't recognise the forest he was standing in. There were no mountains rising in the distance and he could barely see through the trees. He hadn't wandered through any stretch of wilderness this crowded. Yet, he felt oddly exposed.

Turning on the spot, he noticed the glow of lanterns leaking through the tree trunks. Silently slipping through the trees, he stopped and crouched just outside the circles of light. A road seemed to stretch out both ways, disappearing into a thick haze of fog. There were no signs, either.

As he crouched by the light, he finally noticed how cold he was. Restraining himself from shivering, he waited for a sign of life.
