He got uncomfortable, and looked at the ground.

"I'm not sure why I'm here. I don't have anywhere else to go" He replied sharply, turning his head to look at the nearest window, just so he wouldn't have to see the discipline in his eyes.
Adults are the worst he thought.

Douglas pulled Foxy back into the curtains and propped the "Out of Order" sign back up. He closed the curtains, sighing. "Rough life, eh, kid?" He asked as he jumped down from the stage to the floor. "I had that problem too. You know, with my eyes.". Douglas lifted his hat and showed Rain his snow-white eyes, yet it was curious how he could see so well and not be blind. "But forgive me for being judgy. I haven't been near kids for a LONG time!". That was true, since Douglas was in Vermont when he last killed a kid. He could have collected more Remnant for the robots and for him, but the police drove him quickly to his feet. Now in Ohio, Douglas got a new job of the exact same kind.

He acknowledged Douglas' eyes, but didn't really react, as if he had saw something of the like before.
He sat down at a table next to the stage that contained foxy and grabbed a book from a shelf nearby, obviously bored.
He noticed his sleeve was rolled up slightly, revealing a small scar, accompanied by a bruise.
"I- Don't mind that.." He said with a start, quickly rolling down his jacket sleeve and sticking that hand in his pocket.

Douglas paused, noticing the kid's quiet demeanor. At first he thought it was because he was around a stranger, but it didn't seem like that at all. Rain seemed to feel small, like a mouse, insignificant and meek...
Maybe, just maybe, Douglas could spare him.
"Hey, kid, what's your favorite animal?" Douglas asked Rain as he walked over to the Prize Corner. He opened a truck that contained extra stuffed animals, which were kept there for restocking the shelves.

He sat quietly, as if he didn't hear the questions, then answered.

"I like Raccoons.." He replied quietly, as if he were being interrogated.
He hoped that he didn't see the scar, as it was a symbol of his traumatic past, and a reminder of how he was a 'rat'.
He looked back at his book, as he turned the flimsy page, the corners edged with dirt.

Douglas rummaged through the trunk and pulled a plushie out. Coincidently, it was a raccoon plush, with orange-tinted cheeks and bright green eyes. He noticed a bin of ribbons the puppet animatronic sometimes used to wrap bows around the plushies' necks, giving a little cute flare to them. Douglas grabbed an orange ribbon and tied the best bow he could around the toy's neck, smiling once he finished. He walked over and tapped Rain on the shoulder, holding the gift behind his back. "Hey, Rain, you have a moment?" Douglas asked.

He nodded and got up hesitantly, setting down the book.
He pushed in his chair and stood up, waiting for further reply.

Douglas showed the raccoon to Rain, smiling with a shark-like grin. "Noticed you were being sad, so I got you something," He told Rain, handing him the raccoon. He was surprised he didn't have the urge to strangle this kid right then and there; that's what he felt with other kids. But he felt compassion for once, a sense of... fatherhood? Was that the feeling he had? Nevertheless, Douglas couldn't harm Rain, even if he lost control of himself.

His face lit up suddenly, excitement or surprise, nobody could tell.
He took the raccoon carefully, not trying to be rude, then grinned back.
"Thank you! I love it" He exclaimed.
Rain was slightly surprised with himself. He had never been that excited, especially with someone older than him.
He hugged the stuffed animal slightly, then sat back down, and propped it up next to him as he picked up his book and began reading again, a smile not daring to leave his face.
