A World's Dawn - Multifandom Sandbox (O&A)

Somewhere in the multiverse, somehow, an entirely new world has just come into existence. Its conditions are much like the planet Earth. It has Earth-like forests, plains, mountains, deserts, and more. Perhaps there are some more unusual and fantastic environments out there as well. There is, however, one key difference: not a single living being has ever existed within it.

Until now.

Portals are now opening up across the multiverse in seemingly-random locations. It's as if this newborn world is deliberately inviting creatures from a variety of existing worlds to explore and inhabit it. Whether by curiosity or accident, you have entered this vast, untouched land. It's entirely up to you what happens next.

Important Details

Postby SilverStärlight » Tue Dec 03, 2019 9:21 am

About the Setting-

• Characters may freely travel to and from this world via portals, which seem to stay open indefinitely.

• Each portal in this world actually links to many other worlds simultaneously. Two characters from two completely different worlds may end up exiting from the exact same portal in this world. However, the portals are also strangely "intelligent" in that they remember the exact origin of every character that passes through it.
In other words, they will connect a specific point A in a character's home world to a specific point B in this world, and this "route" is consistent and specific to that character--as well as any other characters who entered the same portal that they did to get here. (We wouldn't want any sequence-breaking shenanigans, would we?)
Any further details about how the portals work under unusual circumstances will be explored and discussed as the RP plays out.

• Time may flow here at a different rate in relation to other worlds, but this has yet to be decided studied.

• The only animals here are the ones that wander in from other worlds. Initially, the world is going to be extremely quiet, but it will get more lively as time goes on and more creatures find their way here.

Rules and Such

Postby SilverStärlight » Tue Dec 03, 2019 9:22 am

Rules, Guidelines, and Expectations-

As always, remember to follow all Chicken Smoothie roleplay rules.

• Always remember good RP etiquette: no godmoding or powerplaying. However, some very minor powerplaying may be allowed if you are given direct permission to do so by your RP partner.

• This is not a "randomness" RP: it's an open-ended, open world RP that's built heavily around player input and collaboration.

• RPers of all experience levels are welcome~ There is no minimum requirement for post length, but please write more per post than just, for example, "He smiled."

• Players are encouraged to work together and build the world as a group effort. Everyone is free to collaborate with others and describe newly-discovered areas themselves. These areas will then become part of the RP's official "canon".

• Remember to check with the other RPers before changing the time of day, as it may interfere with others' scenes.

• OOC discussions will take place on the discussion thread and in the RP's Discord server. Remember that all CS rules still apply on the Discord.

Form-and-character-related guidelines-

• You may create your own character forms from scratch. Just be sure to include the basics such as appearance, name, fandom (if applicable), species, gender, and personality.

• Canon characters and OCs are both welcome~

• All character forms are to be posted on the discussion thread. One form per post.

• Please wait until I have accepted your form(s) before playing your character(s) in the RP.

• There is no character limit, but try not to RP more characters than you can handle at once.

• If you're running low on inspiration writing for a specific character, you are free to just have them go home for a while. Once you have the inspiration to write for them again, you can just have them come back~

x - Brigitte Lindholm - Tags: (open)
A green, lightly-wooded hollow lay cradled between tall, rugged mountains. With seemingly no creatures present, and the terrain even mostly preventing the breeze from reaching it, the only thing really breaking the silence was the soft sound of moving water. A small waterfall trickled down a cliff and into a small stream pool, the narrower part of the stream flowing off around a corner to who knows where. Likely the most striking thing about this scene, however, was the gently swirling, glowing, elliptical portal near one of the great mountains' bases.

Brigitte's head slowly poked through the portal, and the rest of her followed with a very cautious demeanor as she exited it one step at a time, fully equipped. Just a moment earlier, she had entered a similar-looking portal that had opened up in an inconspicuous corner of Watchpoint Gibraltar. Upon discovering it, she carefully decided that she couldn't simply leave it alone without at least trying to figure out what it was; for all she knew, it could be the beginning of some sort of infiltration attempt. She was surprised to now find herself in a very serene and seemingly remote nook amidst the mountains.

Somehow feeling both relieved and a bit unsettled by the unexpected tranquility, Brigitte warily took a few steps forward, holding her flail and shield at the ready the whole time. She was alert as she constantly looked around at her surroundings. Aside from the gentle clanking of her own heavy armor, she could hear grass rustling and the occasional twig snapping under her weight as she walked, and the sound of the water running nearby. She did not, however, hear even a single bird. No insects chirring either, nor any squirrels chattering. She didn't hear any noise whatsoever that would imply the presence of a living creature. Something's not right about this place, she thought to herself, now standing several meters away from the portal, looking suspiciously at everything. It's WAY too quiet... Maybe I should get out of here and return with backup.

Reza of the Fin Clade||MtG||Tagged: Open
It was quiet. There was no chirping of birds, no buzzing of insects, no soft sound of footsteps through the undergrowth. The air smelled of pine, and dirt, and stone and water. Sunlight filtered down through the forest canopy, creating dancing spots of light on the needle-covered floor. A gentle breeze snaked through the forest, breaking the silence with a soft, gentle rustling.

This peace was very quickly shattered by a high-pitched, excited squeal, that echoed across the gentle sunlit valley, perhaps the first sound made by a sapient being the world had ever heard.

Reza was ecstatic. This was a golden opportunity, and it was all hers for the taking. The portal had popped up in the middle of Simic territory, and she had exclusive rights to it from the Prime Speaker herself. There was a whole lab devoted to studying this portal and the world beyond, and she was at its head. Engineers had been called in to study the portal itself, but until they were sure it was stable, she was the only one allowed through. She'd be able to get back on her own if the portal spontaneously closed, so she was the perfect candidate. Explaining that had taken some time, but it was worth it to see this.

From the moment her feet touched the ground, Reza could tell that there was no sapient life in this world. There was no birdsong, no insect buzzing, her enhanced nose didn't pick up any sort of scent markings of any kind. How exactly plants survived in this place without any sort of pollinators present was a mystery, and it was one she was eager to delve into. Once she knew how the ecosystem worked, she could start shaping it. If the portal stabilized, Ravnica could expand, the first nation to occupy two planes, and it would all be thanks to her. Simply the thought had her primary heart fluttering.

Small, wordless utterances of excitement continued to issue from the biomancer as she bounded into the undergrowth, too hyped-up to focus on anything for too long. She scurried up trees, glided from branch to branch, and sifted through the undergrowth, scrutinizing leaves, needles, dirt, and anything else she could get her hands on; narrating aloud her thought process.

"No fruits or berries," she observed, "obviously, there's nothing around to eat them. Oooh, this cone has fins on it so it catches the wind, that's a fun little trick. No flowers that I can see either, but there are mushrooms. Soil is... surprisingly high quality, if I didn't know better I'd say this forest is brand new."

cato [1]

Postby guar » Mon Dec 09, 2019 11:58 pm

    -----━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
-------------------anthropomorphic cat - fourteen years old - tag; brigitte
    -----━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Jagged mountains loomed around a vivid hollow, sparse trees were littered about the terrain although any signs of life were completely absent. No bird-songs could be caught whistling through the trees, no quiet hum of insects sounded from the brush. The only sound that Little Cato had heard when he first entered the unfamiliar landscape was the faint rushing of running water from a nearby waterfall nestled into the side of one of the mountains. From when he first peered inside from the other side of the strange portal, Little Cato hadn’t been able to recognise any section of the landscape, there were no defining landmarks that he could recall seeing, there wasn’t a certain planet that came to mind as he viewed the surroundings either. Now, he was used to strange happening since his time joining Gary, even before they had the Crimson Light, but seeing a portal in one of the lesser traversed sections of the ship was certainly odd. They always did say that curiosity killed the Ventrexian, although that wouldn’t deter him from investigating the dimensional gateway.

After first peering inside, Little Cato saw nobody there but he was severely underprepared for exploring someplace where he knew nothing about the possible threats that may be lurking - he had learnt long ago that when something seemed too good, there would have to be a catch. Perhaps that wasn’t a comforting thought to a teenager, but at least it kept him alive and alert. With that in mind, Little Cato had retreated back into the portal to recover some of his things to prepare him for the strange landscape; that included grabbing one of his blasters and a small satchel of some food in case it lasted longer than anticipated. Usually he would tell somebody if he was going somewhere, but after the losses they had suffered, nobody seemed ready to talk. Who knows, perhaps a change of scenery would be good for him?

When Little Cato returned to the portal, he made no effort to check for people as he walked through since there wasn’t a sign of life the last time he looked inside, and he knew everybody was accounted for on the ship so nobody else had entered. A brief awe-filled whistle escaped the Ventrexian as he emerged the other side of the portal again, glancing about at the surroundings rather than focusing on where he was walking. He had heard the sound of clanking as he walked, but he made no note of it, dismissing it as general ambience of the hollow he was exploring, but soon enough he found himself collide with something hard and metal while neglecting to look where he was going. Staggering backwards, he brought a hand to his head to gently press against where he had hit it on the armour before he actually considered the situation and the fact that he had walked into a stranger somewhere he thought was devoid of life. Leaping slightly in sudden realisation and fright, Little Cato took several steps backwards, noticing a heavily armoured person would usually be armed as well, “Oh, uh, sorry.” He apologised somewhat sheepishly, “I thought I was alone here.” He continued to admit with a frown.

In any other situation, the fourteen-year-old probably would have brandished his weapon defensively but at this point, he decided against doing so; he was the one to walk into the stranger, for one thing, but then there was the fact that they could potentially be friendly and if he bumped into them and proceeded to threaten them, that probably wasn’t a good first impression. Upon further inspection, also, from what he could see, they were a human and from Little Cato’s few experiences, humans were usually friendly enough. And they didn’t take kindly to being threatened, either. Even if the stranger did appear rather intimidating, being heavily armoured and much taller than him - he was only up to just below their chest, after all, and he never bothered to wear armour.

It was beautiful - staggeringly beautiful. Nothing like the tall, slowly-crumbling labyrinth of spires which made up Pittsburgh's desolate ruins. The air smelled clean and fresh and wild, like a vast expanse of unexplored wilderness, not even so much as a pang of the inescapable stench of decay every wind back home blew in. The girl's eyes were shot wide open, like twin placid lakes reflecting everything that came into contact with them, and as a coy breeze blew through her brush of indigo hair she gasped at nothing apparent. Her gun was lax and slack, hanging limply off her shoulder, now no more than a piece of purposeless cargo. Boots scuffing through the loam, she darted off shortly into the trees, not sure whether or not to leave the gateway too far behind her. This was some crazy sci-fi stuff if she'd ever seen it - so outlandish that she was already wondering whether or not she'd just completely lost it and been jerked out of touch with reality. But, if that was the case, then this wasn't the worst thing to be seeing. It seemed pretty peaceful, at least; empty, just like where she'd come from, but in a very different way. The ruined city was desolate, its emptiness ringing with the echoes of people who had faded away into the past, but this place was bright, fertile, humming softly with a desire to be enlivened, to be explored. Princess strode between the trees like a deer, taking cautious steps and frequently pausing to look around, waiting to catch sight of something. Yet there was nothing stirring, not even birds whistling or insects chirping in the pale morning light. Back home there'd at least been the occasional crow yawping into the wind, but here there was just...nothing. Just wind in the boughs, rustling needles and branches against one another, and something she thought might've been a creek chattering somewhere in the distance. "Hello?" She finally grew brave enough to call, though nothing answered her that she could discern.

If there really was no-one here...then, that was kind of a funny development, all things considered. There was at the very least a touch of humorous irony in finally being presented with an opportunity to leave the city that had been so bleak and barren and boring for years now only to end up in a completely different every place. Though, if nobody lived here either, she might as well keep the 'Princess' title then. It was much cooler to be the princess of a wild, untamed woodland than it was an empty, depressing city full of rusted cars and concrete dust. With a huff, Princess finally kicked herself down into a sitting position, leaning with her back against a tree. She wasn't entirely sure that there weren't any of those unfortunate shambling corpse types around here, and with dense cover like this it would be hard to spot them at a distance. In that regard, she was glad she'd at least thought to bring her gun with her. She leaned back and tried to relax, tried to gather her thoughts about this weird, weird situation she'd found herself in, but the quietness of this place was just a little too eerie for her tastes, and she'd always been a restless soul anyway. Pulling herself to her feet again, she gripped the bark of the pine tree that had been at her back and sudden wondered how far she could scale a tree like that. Might give her a better view of the landscape, eh? Maybe she'd be able to see some sort of landmark. Not a structure, of course, but maybe a...mountain? A lake? A big rock somewhere? It was worth a shot, at least. Making sure her rifle strap was thoroughly secured, she braced herself against the trunk of the tree and scrambled to get ahold of a low bough. It was perhaps only thanks to her petite frame that she managed to stay in the air and get the branches to support her, as her balance was certainly not any form of precise. She managed to work her way up a little further, but the needles were raking through her hair and her jacket and the butt of her gun jammed into higher branches as she struggled to distribute her weight. Climbing trees sure was a lot harder than she'd remembered it from her childhood. One wrong step and a branch bent and snapped beneath her, erasing all her progress and sending her right back to the ground with a pained "Oof!" And a voluminous snap that resonated throughout the entire valley.

𝙿𝙰𝚁𝚃 𝙸 male synthetic human death stranding tags: reza

It didn't feel like a 'jump' - not like the ones Fragile made, at least. Passing through the portal was seamless, and what was on the other side didn't look like a Beach - not in the way Deadman understood them. He'd somehow been expecting one, or at least something that looked like one (despite every indicator having told him it wouldn't be), which made what he did see quite a shock. Eyes brightening behind his glasses as curiosity enveloped him, the doctor strode a few feet away from where he'd entered, careful not to move too far but already desperately wanting to. "Wow." He couldn't help but hiss out loud. "Amazing..." Amazing, indeed - this place was, of course, of remarkable interest to Bridges. The spontaneous appearance of what was, by all readings, something akin to a stable and open dimensional portal had drawn their attention instantly. However, in all the monitoring that had occurred thus far, what they had all most expected was something emerging into their world from wherever it led. Something that had opened the portal willingly - something like a BT, perhaps, but they had known it didn't lead to anything like a Beach fairly quickly; there were no chiral matter readings associated with it at all. What it had to do with the Death Stranding (if anything, perhaps) was more than in question, but there were some inquisitive minds determined to find out. Deadman, for instance, had volunteered himself to enter the fold almost as soon as he'd heard about it - or, perhaps, it was more accurate to say he had stepped through a few moments without what would be considered 'proper clearance'. He was just too restless with curiosity to leave it alone for much longer (and discreetly too worried about what Bridges really wanted with it). Heartman had shared something similar to his own speculative excitement in their conversations on the subject, but he was too often indisposed to go adventuring into the unknown. Instead, his interests were left focused on the prospect of researching valuable samples of matter from the other side. Hopefully, this world didn't protest to that notion too much, and such artifacts would be able to make it back through the portal safely. Plus, it looked like they were going to be things as tangible as plant matter, too. They'd had no idea whether or not to anticipate there being anything living, even growing plants, on the other side of this door.

A thought struck Deadman very suddenly, and he instinctively raised a hand as though asking the world around him to be quiet. And quiet it was - there were no distinct animal sounds at all, nor anything which could even be mistaken for one. Now, that was an interesting feature: plants, but no animals. Like an idle iteration of prehistoric Earth before organisms other than plant life had emerged from the primordial oceans. But this place didn't seem primordial at all; the atmosphere felt quite the same as it had on Earth and the flora looked indistinguishable from the kinds of species living back home. Entranced by his own thoughts, Deadman hadn't been paying attention at all to the fact that he'd been walking or faintly muttering to himself as he mentally tested these possibilities. Hearing something that sounded like a voice, he perked up once more and immediately began to move unsubtly towards it, not stopping to consider that that might not be the wisest idea there was. After all, there was absolutely no way to speculate what he actually had a chance of running in to in such a highly anomalous location. However, it was a voice, and he understood it, both of which were highly unexpected given what little information he had about this scenario, and both of which thus piqued his curiosity. And, of course, the man had never really been tactful even in what most would consider normal conversations anyway, so he wasn't liable to be any more so under such strange and exciting circumstances. He shuffled close enough to catch something along the lines of "...[if I didn't know] any better, I'd say this forest is brand new." Before he promptly interjected with, "Ah, brand new indeed - but not so primeval at all." He was offering a friendly tone, interested in conversation, and he hadn't even properly laid eyes on whoever was speaking yet. Once he did, he was nothing if not surprised, but didn't renege on his optimistic sociability. It wasn't a human, but it definitely wasn't a BT either. Aquatic-looking, indeed, but not any form of BT. With that qualifier, it was at least possible to converse or ally with it. How wonderful it would be to bring such a thing back through the portal with him! And perhaps even hand-in-hand, too, in wholly good faith! An intelligent non-human being from another dimension, and entirely capable of human speech and communication. An unprecedented and possibly even delightful development.
