all signs of life have long since abandonded the landscape around you. faded advertisements, broken down
cars, items of clothing strewn across the ground and, upon closer inspection, it appears that they have dark
stains on them; for peace of mind you dismiss it as just mud and general dirty marks. where you have woken
up is an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious epidemic, the remains of the population being no
more than flesh-hungry creatures. supplies are going to be hard to come by as it seems that the time before
the apocalyptic event ravaged the world has been long gone for several decades. there are few sources of
clean food and water, and for all you know the canal that runs throughought this deserted city could be full
of infected water - you had better watch what you're trying to eat and drink.
you have been provided no information or explanation as to why you have woken up where you have, either
in a deteriorating building or maybe even just out in the open, leaving yourself vulnerable. the only thing
that you know for sure is the fact that where you are is hardly friendly, you can't help but notice movement
in the shadows just in your peripheral vision, sounds of movement which you find only rustling bushes rather
than anything obviously dangerous. even the weather appears to be against you, you notice the temperature
is consistently around 30C/86F throughout the city during the day and 5C/41F during the night. the skies are
blue with no hints to any incoming rain. water and food is scarce, in some buildings there are strange rooms
which are cool and contain food and water, perhaps they are where people once stayed before they succumed
to the virus.
during your travels, perhaps you encounter some of those unlucky people who fell victim to the epidemic, a
strong stench of death following these shambling corpses. they move slowly at first, that is, until there are
any signs of life around them - maybe you speak too loudly or perhaps you get too close to them, these being
the last mistakes you make. although appearing slow and stupid, when there is the chance of a meal these
monsters speed up, running at high speeds towards prey. no matter what damage they take, they refuse to go
down unless the brain is destroyed or severed from the body. when there are only one or two of them, it isn't
that hard to deal with them but as soon as there is a large group you had better turn tail and run. dispose of
them quickly if you are able to, their agitation seems to draw the others in and soon enough you'll be finding
yourself outnumbered by the dead.
