denta sharp smell filled the air, a scent that cu alter associated with thunder and heavy storms; the air crackled slightly. a look of outrage flashed in the archer’s eyes, and—is that a slight tremor in his hands as he held his bow? the shift in expression and body language was slight, almost imperceptible, but it was there, and in that split second cu alter was almost convinced that archer might fly into a complete rage and attack.
dentbefore cu alter could react, what little anger the other servant let slip through the cracks in his façade dissipated. the momentary streak of anger that flashed through his face, like lightning illuminating a cloud from inside, was gone. his shoulders rose and fell in a deep breath. the placid, well-mannered air returning as he turned to the human and spoke with her. to others, it might have seemed as though little more than a pointed glance was exchanged between the two of them, but cu alter was a servant, and one who was especially dedicated to taking down enemies. it would be foolish of him to not at least learn how to observe the body language of people around him to know when they’re in a mood to attack or show hostility, no matter how small the shift in body language is.
denthis eyes went back down towards the creature. it seemed to snort a lot. does it have an allergy of some sort? a sickness? it didn’t seem very happy with the mutt comparison either: twitching and quavering in response to his statement. or having a rage-induced seizure. he really couldn’t tell. communication with beasts wasn’t one of his proficiencies: cu’s other selves, most notably his caster version, were more adept in the rune magic that, amongst other things, lets them understand the language of animals.
dentthe breeze picked up, the white paper that swirled around the entire city, dancing and floating in the wind. he had noticed them at the beginning, but hadn't paid much thought to it at the start, being more interested in his surroundings. carried by the wind, a leaf of paper slapped him in the face with a soft but solid thwack.
denthe flinched, batted the paper away with a clawed hand. there was writing on it—something about his home being in danger? home? what home? the throne of heroes? chaldea? his home was neither here nor there; as an alter he existed as a warped, corrupted version of a heroic spirit. he could cease to be at any given moment if the world deems it fit.
dentand chaldea—
dentcu alter suddenly felt an unsettling tingle rush down his spine to the base of his tail, like someone dragging cold fingers down his back. he twisted around. archer had freed a piece of paper skewered onto one of the spines of his tail and was holding it delicately in a gloved hand. he gave a short that would have put a two-tailed creature to shame, carelessly shook his tail to flick the remaining papers off. it didn't seem to help much. the movement dislodged some but several more just speared itself onto his tail.
dentah.
denta harder shake. some dislodged itself and fluttered away in the wind. still more got themselves skewered in midair. cu alter huffed through his nose, his mood giving way to vague exasperation. he tore off whatever he could reach and tossed it aside in shreds; some were still stuck, gently stirring in the wind in places more difficult to reach. this will be a pain in the ass. maybe the rest of it will come off on its own time?
dentcu alter glanced at the lady—veronika, her name was. he deliberated on her question for a brief moment. "berserker," he said simply. there wasn't a reason for him to give his true name. not that he was planning on giving it to anyone in this forsaken era.
