The feast last night had been lost on Lucas, who had immediately slunk off to the hospital wing for his first dose of blood all summer. Today, he looked much more lively than he had on the train. His skin no longer had the appearance of dry, white paper, but of smooth marble, pale and vibrant. His black hair was no longer limp and lifeless, but an array of curls that shone in the filtered sun through the windows. And his eyes, black as ever, were filled with the hope of a new year; of never returning to that retched orphanage ever again.
He strode up the hall, his black school robes billowing behind him. The thin young man was approaching his first class: History of Magic. He didn't mind the subject, although the professor could stand to make it a little more interesting. He had already read through the entire textbook, mostly so that he could let his attention wander during class without risking his perfect grades.
Lucas silently entered the classroom and took an empty chair towards the back. His fellow seventh year Slytherins were slowly filling in and opening their books, unpacking their bags, and wetting their quills.

Rowan smiled as the students filled in, and began when it appeared that everyone was inside. "Good morning class. Welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Most of you will remember me from last year; I am Professor Rowan Blackhoof." He strode over to the table holding the homely plants and pulled on some gloves.
"Today we will be tackling the Venomous Tentacula. I hope you all brought your dragonskin gloves. Can anyone tell me the properties of this plant, and why it must be handled so carefully?"

Aurelio took out his wand and flicked it silently at his own copy of the textbook, the pages flying open and landing on page 15. "Yes, simple self defense jinxes. Today we will run through a few of these spells to make sure you all feel comfortable using them should you ever need to. Now, a couple trusty go-to's are the stunning spell, the disarming spell, and the full body-bind spell." He approached a large, square object behind his desk covered by a heavy blanket. Aurelio pulled the blanket off to reveal a cage full of several very displeased red caps. He opened the latched door and pointed his wand at one, levitating it out and quickly closing the door back as the others rushed towards it. The chosen red cap kicked and squirmed as Aurelio brought him in front of the class. It looked at thought it would be happy to bite a chunk out of his face.
"These are red caps, as I'm sure you all know. Nasty little guys, but they make great practice dummies." The small dwarfish creature cursed and spat at the professor. "So then, if you all will form a line, I'll have you practice a few spells on our little friend here."
As the students stood, some looking a little a wary, other somewhat excited, Aurelio took the red cap by the scruff and waved his wand to push the desks to either side of the room, making space for spellwork. When he was in school, the hands on classes had always been his favorite, and he was sure these students thought so also. As they lined up, he chose a boy in the front to come forward.
"Alright then?" He said, coaxing Patryk forward. "Let me see you perform the stunning spell." At that, he let the red cap down to the floor and released him. The tiny old man rushed towards Patryk, brandishing what looked like a femur bone as a club.
