Aris was one of the first to enter the Potions classroom. He didn't see the professor anywhere, but he was rather early. He had skipped breakfast this morning, not really feeling hungry. The first days back at Hogwarts, as much as he loved the place, were always the roughest. Eventually, he knew he would get over his homesickness, but until then his appetite was going to suffer.
He claimed a spot at a table near the front of the classroom; he found it easier to focus up there. He set down his cauldron and the rest of his materials, resting his bag against the leg of the table. Now to wait for everyone else to join him.

    PAYTON KOWALSKI

pureblood || seventh year || hufflepuff || @ the halls || tags; open
    ────────────────────────────────────────
payton woke up, and that was enough for him to groan in annoyance.
it was only the second day of school, yeah, but he already felt completely drained. he couldn't even come up with a good way to prank the first years, and that was his favorite thing to do at the beginning of the year!!!
he had gotten too used to his old routine, wake up at noon, eat trash, smoke weed, play videogames and sleep again. one couldn't call it magical, but damn did he love it. muggles had it good, not worrying about this stupid school and being good at hocus pocus. all he wanted was to be a normal teenage boy, was that too much to ask?
apparently, it was, since he had to get up, put on his clothes, take them off and put them on again after noticing that he had put them on backward, grabbing whatever he would need the whole day and head over to breakfast. hey, even if hogwarts sucked, at least he could eat whatever the hell he wanted! goodbye eating cereal for every meal!!!
he paid attention to other people's conversation so he could find out what class they had, it was too early to remember. and the answer was charms! eugh, how boring. all it was was swinging a wand around and hope something happened, not really what he looked forward to. lucky sixth years, they got herbology in the first hour, which was easily the best class. didn't they just change teachers? that kinda sucked, all he could do was hope that they were cool.
after breakfast, he ignored his brother, as it was way too early for him to focus on an ass to him, and proceeded to carry out his genius plan of sneaking off into the bathroom and skipping charms. maybe he could sneak off into the woods until lunch, but that meant he could miss herbology... ugh, he'd just lock himself into a stall and get high again. too bad electronics didn't work in this place. stupid wizarding rules, this place would be much better if he could use his gameboy between classes.
the boy confidently made his way to the bathroom, carrying himself as if he had a purpose, that way nobody could stop him since it always seemed like he was up to something important. that always seemed to work with the stupider teachers anyways.

    PATRYK KOWALSKI

pureblood || seventh year || ravenclaw || @ DADA classroom || tags; prof. Vandershod
    ────────────────────────────────────────
patryk was one of the firsts to be in class, as usual. even if it was the first class of the year, he wouldn't dare start off with the wrong foot. there's a bunch of new teachers coming this year, so a good first impression was ideal. he wasn't very surprised to see there was yet another new defense against the dark arts teacher. maybe the myths of this position being cursed were true.
this time was different though, the student looked visibly frazzled as soon as the new teacher began to introduce himself, looking around nervously, seems like others had noticed it too. this was freakin vandershod. hed read about him before. he was a criminal, a murderer, and now he was a teacher?! no wonder so many terrible things happened to people in this position. maybe what the school needed was a new headmaster, who thought it was a good idea to put this guy in a classroom?!
the polish boy was now freaked out, and it showed, he began to bounce his knee anxiously, quickly looking away from their new teacher. he fumbled with his book in order to get to the needed page. he had read this before. of course, he did, his parents always made him study so he could be ahead of the class. it paid off this time around, cause he definitely wasn't going to be able to focus in class if he was just going to be glancing at the professor and quietly panicking.

Lucas Searoby
Slytherin / 17 / Male / Half-Vampire
Tags: Open Location: History of Magic classroom

The feast last night had been lost on Lucas, who had immediately slunk off to the hospital wing for his first dose of blood all summer. Today, he looked much more lively than he had on the train. His skin no longer had the appearance of dry, white paper, but of smooth marble, pale and vibrant. His black hair was no longer limp and lifeless, but an array of curls that shone in the filtered sun through the windows. And his eyes, black as ever, were filled with the hope of a new year; of never returning to that retched orphanage ever again.

He strode up the hall, his black school robes billowing behind him. The thin young man was approaching his first class: History of Magic. He didn't mind the subject, although the professor could stand to make it a little more interesting. He had already read through the entire textbook, mostly so that he could let his attention wander during class without risking his perfect grades.

Lucas silently entered the classroom and took an empty chair towards the back. His fellow seventh year Slytherins were slowly filling in and opening their books, unpacking their bags, and wetting their quills.

Herbology Professor / 26 / Male / Satyr

Rowan smiled as the students filled in, and began when it appeared that everyone was inside. "Good morning class. Welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Most of you will remember me from last year; I am Professor Rowan Blackhoof." He strode over to the table holding the homely plants and pulled on some gloves.

"Today we will be tackling the Venomous Tentacula. I hope you all brought your dragonskin gloves. Can anyone tell me the properties of this plant, and why it must be handled so carefully?"

Aurelio Vandershod
Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor / 32 / Male
Tags: 7th year Ravenclaws Location: DADA classroom

Aurelio took out his wand and flicked it silently at his own copy of the textbook, the pages flying open and landing on page 15. "Yes, simple self defense jinxes. Today we will run through a few of these spells to make sure you all feel comfortable using them should you ever need to. Now, a couple trusty go-to's are the stunning spell, the disarming spell, and the full body-bind spell." He approached a large, square object behind his desk covered by a heavy blanket. Aurelio pulled the blanket off to reveal a cage full of several very displeased red caps. He opened the latched door and pointed his wand at one, levitating it out and quickly closing the door back as the others rushed towards it. The chosen red cap kicked and squirmed as Aurelio brought him in front of the class. It looked at thought it would be happy to bite a chunk out of his face.

"These are red caps, as I'm sure you all know. Nasty little guys, but they make great practice dummies." The small dwarfish creature cursed and spat at the professor. "So then, if you all will form a line, I'll have you practice a few spells on our little friend here."

As the students stood, some looking a little a wary, other somewhat excited, Aurelio took the red cap by the scruff and waved his wand to push the desks to either side of the room, making space for spellwork. When he was in school, the hands on classes had always been his favorite, and he was sure these students thought so also. As they lined up, he chose a boy in the front to come forward.

"Alright then?" He said, coaxing Patryk forward. "Let me see you perform the stunning spell." At that, he let the red cap down to the floor and released him. The tiny old man rushed towards Patryk, brandishing what looked like a femur bone as a club.

Skylar Vance

Location: Advanced Greenhouse #3
Tagged: Professor Blackhoof
Skylar focused on the front of the class as Professor Blackhoof spoke. He nodded slightly at the mention of dragonskin gloves, and took them out of his bag and set them on the bench in front of him.
He hesitated at the question, thinking back to what he'd read over the summer. As far as he knew, no one else had raised a hand. Skylar bit his lip. Confidence. He told himself. This was the year he was going to be more confident. And he had to take as many opportunities as he could to help with that. So, after a few more moments of silence, Skylar raised a hand.
He waited until he was called on, then he spoke, "Venomous Tentacula have mobile vines, and have a venomous bite that can stun or kill, as well being able to produce a poisonous, though non-lethal, juice." Skylar decided to go with a more basic answer, as to not end up talking too much or ramble.

Bryce frowned a little as he noticed a couple of empty seats that should not be empty. He would have to find out who the missing students were later, he did not want to delay starting his class. So, he began.
"Good morning, class. Welcome to the start of your Transfiguration O.W.L. classes. These classes will require your focus and effort every day, if you want to achieve a good grade in your O.W.L. for this class. This year I will especially not tolerate tomfoolery or inattention." Bryce started, choosing to begin with a heavier note, and make it clear that this year was more serious than the previous years. Besides, despite teaching Transfiguration for ten years so far, he still had Headmistress McGonagall to lvie up to. And just because he was Head of Slytherin did not mean he would go easy on them either.

"Now," he smiled, more warmly, "today we'll be starting with the Vanishing Spell. I advise you take detailed notes because we'll be spending several lessons on this difficult spell." Bryce waited a moment to let anyone who hadn't inked their quill - or even had their writing instruments out - get prepared, then he began.

Cassey had just made it to the greenhouse when Professor Blackhoof had started to talk and start the lesson. He caught on the end half of the lecture. He felt his face heat up at the thought of getting in trouble already on the first day. He saw some other students bring out their dragonskin gloves. Cassey had quickly brought his gloves out of his back-his rather 'muggle' bag compared to the other students and brought his gloves out. The gloves had definitely gotten their fair share of use. They were tattered but would last Cassey the rest of his years at Hogwarts. Cassey listened as a Hufflepuff, he faintly remembered whose name was Skylar, answered the Professors question. Cassey recalled the reading he had to do-rather secretly at night due to his muggle-life style-so the information was fairly scattered.

isaac sol draguar
male ; thirty-two ; ravenclaw/potions ; [c] homosex/rom
tags- sixth year slytherins ; location- potions classroom

After Isaac's conversation with Aurelio he was feeling, well, down. Revisiting his first years and past rumors always took a toll on the professor. Reliving memories that haunted him and ate at him every day. It was draining. Isaac knew that his class would be starting soon-that he should be out and ready but these students were smart enough to know not to touch anything in his classroom without his permission. Isaac had reluctantly changed out of his black suit and into his robes. He still wore his dress shoes from his suit as he valued them over any other form of shoes. Isaac made his way out of his office and into his classroom to see a few students making their way into the classroom. Isaac never liked Slytherins. He wasn't against them just he knew they were the ones that typically started rumors. Whether it was as a professor as when he was a student they were the first to attack him. He never let that affect his teaching and always graded and taught fairly, but some days he just couldn't stand looking at them. It, foolishly, hurt him sometimes.

Isaac made his way towards his area of the classroom and picked up his wand. The Hawthorne wand wasn't his first wand. It was his third wand. His first wand was no longer with him, it had been destroyed, and his second wand was kept in a safe back at his manor. A few students had noticed the wand change two years ago but he never explained why-nor would he. Isaac went through motions, motions he knew like the back of his hand, to summon some parchment and an ink feather to him. Isaac was able to do so with barely opening his mouth. He had almost mastered silent spell-casting due to the time he spent in America. Isaac let the parchment sit on the table he stood by before crossing his arms and letting more students file in before starting up the class.

Aris glanced up as Draguar finally entered the Potions classroom. Other students were beginning to file in as well. He pulled out his Potions text for the year as well as parchment and a quill in preparation for class to start.

Laura Storm /Slytherin, 5th year /Transfiguration Classroom
Laura was sitting in the class, listening to the teacher. She wasn't too happy that they were starting out with a difficult spell. However, she inked her quill when the professor stopped talking and prepared to take notes. She knew she had to work harder than ever this year. Laura didn't like getting bad grades, especially on important tests. And this year was going to be pretty crazy... She'll have to study as much as it was possible, AND train with Decanter, at least during fall and spring, she can give herself a break during winter. The upcoming Championships were going to be very hard, and she couldn't afford another year without training. She slightly shook her head. She has to focus. Now.

Rowan was a bit surprised when Skylar answered the question. He knew the boy would know it, but he was typically too shy to speak up. He couldn't help but beam with pride. "Excellent answer, Skylar. Yes, the venomous tentacula wouldn't make a very nice house plant, but it's juice is used in a number of potions. If you will all slip your gloves on, you may partner up and begin trimming yours."

He glanced up at Benjamin as he hurried in. He was cutting it a bit close...

Rowan went and stood behind the table he had set up at the head of the room, the vile plant sitting perfectly still on it. He slid on his own gloves and picked up a sharp knife. "The best way to cut the stems is with a silver knife, much like you would use in your potions class. Just one, clean cut," He took a vine in one hand and sliced with the other, "And back away. Wait for it to calm down before you go back for another." He stepped back just as the vines flailed to life, narrowly missing one wrapping itself around his arm. After a while, the movements slowed, and he could go back in for another cut.

He went red, at the praise and because he'd spoken up in class. But it was also quite nice to be acknowledged and to have done so anyway. It helped that none of the other students had taken to quietly giggle after he'd answered the question.
At the instructions, he pulled on his dragon skin gloves, and watched the demonstration from Professor Rowan. He didn't particularly want to hurt the plant, however, he knew it would be necessary. And the other option - unlike with most other plants he'd dealt with - would be to be attacked. Besides, it wasn't as if they were killing it.

Skylar decided to partner up with the student sat next to him - and that student seemed to have the same idea, which was fortunate. He sometimes had a little trouble finding a group or partner for this kind of thing.
Once they were able to start with working with the Venomous Tentacula in front of each pair, Skylar picked up a silver knife - first inspecting it to ensure it was sharpened - then he gently took hold of one of the overgrown vines, and cut it cleanly. Skylar quickly took a step back, narrowly missing the other vines swiping at him - to which he glowered quite sharply at the plant.
Once it had calmed down, Skylar stepped forward again for a second vine.

As he spoke, Bryce kept a careful eye on the class, ensuring that they were taking notes - he wanted to be sure that they were taking the information down. "The Vanishing Spell can be used to vanish both animate and inanimate objects into non-being. Unlike a teleportation spell, the object vanished ceases to exist. It becomes more difficult to succeed and use the spell with the complexity of the animal or object to be vanished."
Soon, Bryce taught the incantation. "Now, the incantation is 'Evanesco'. 'Ev-an-ES-ko'." he slowed down the pronunciation, to ensure the class got it. "Today, we'll be starting with snails, as they are relatively easy compared to other animals to vanish." Bryce gestured towards a clear tank with his wand, and used a spell to pick up the snails, each one going to a different desk with a student, with one snail being left. "Watch carefully for the wand movement." Bryce added, and to the snail that was left, he cast, "Evanesco!" and it vanished. He re-conjured it back. "Once more." He repeated the wand movement and spell. "Now you try it. You must concentrate hard to start with, imagining the object gone. You may not get it this class, but I will see if you are trying."

Laura Storm /Slytherin, 5th year /Transfiguration Classroom

Laura was taking notes. She wrote down everything the teacher said, but in a little bit shorter form. She knew it was important to know this spell, and it wasn't easy one. This entire year seemed to be pretty hard. Well, actually preparations for O.W.L.s were supposed to be hard. But she wasn't fond of having a difficult spell on their first class after summer vacation. Anyways, she wrote down everything she thought was necessary.
She listened to the teacher telling them the incantation. It seemed pretty familiar, but Laura wasn't sure why. "If I only could train with Decanter now..." she thought. But suddenly she noticed a snail landing on her desk. She looked at it, confused, then realised that they are now probably gonna try to use the spell on it. "Watch carefully for the wand movement" she heard, and looked at the teacher. She observed the movement carefully, but she was afraid that she may not be able to remember it.
Then, it was their turn to try. Young Slytherin took a deep breath. "Alright" she whispered to the snail, so quietly that nobody heard her "It's me versus you". She felt kinda bad, because she liked all the animals. She took another deeper breath, then said the incantation "Evanesco". Nothing happened. The snail was still in one piece, and it didn't even move. Laura sighed. That's gonna be hard. "You didn't win yet" she whispered to the snail again. She tried again. Nothing. That was frustrating. Realky frustrating.
