Venelope clapped serenely as the the hat called out "HUFFLEPUFF!" and was replaced on its stool. Her stomach was hollow with hunger, but she was very interested in the sorting- wondering vaguely what house Harry Potter would be sorted into, she looked on. "Elrick, Cato," Professor McGonnogal said, looking at the paper.

Cato stepped forward once his named was announced, after the first girl was put in Hufflepuff. He wondered where he'd be Sorted into. He wasn't sure where he'd like to be, in all honesty. Well, not Gryffindor, that was for certain. On his mother's side, they'd been Slytherins, but his father's side were Ravenclaws, so he was betting on one of those two.
He sat down, and as the Hat was put onto his head, Cato listened to it mutter.
"Studious, I see... dedicated and ambitious... you claim to care little for those around you."
Cato tensed a little. He knew that Hat could practically see into minds, but he hadn't expected quite how much.
"Quite the tricky one... your line is quite curious... however, it shall be... SLYTHERIN!" Cato stood up, once he could, and walked to the Slytherin table, sitting down once he got to a open place.

Zig watched the first two students being Sorted. He wasn't sure where he'd go. His family had been quite the mixed bag of students, and none of his older siblings were in the same House as each other. It was interesting to see the other being Sorted. He even made it a little 'game' in his head, to see if he could guess where a student would be Sorted when they went up. Some, he were sure, were predictable, but other students he couldn't figure out.

More students were sorted; a tingle of excitement went over Venelope as she thought about all that awaited in the world of magic. From what she had heard, it would be exceptionally interesting. And then Professor McGonnogal called the the name "Potter, Harry". The quiet shuffling and chattering coming from the sea of students died away. Venelope snapped out of her thoughts and watched: the Potter boy sat upon the stool and after a long moment of bated silence, the sorting hat called "GRYFFINDOR!" There was loud clapping as Harry Potter took a seat at his house table.
"Geiss, Kamrin." Professor McGonnogal called.

After the loud clapping for the potter kid it was finally Kamrin's turn to be called up, stepping up to the stool she sat down and closed her eyes as the hat was placed on her head. Kamrin nervously listened to the hat deciding on what house she should be placed in,
"hm.. you have the kindness of a Hufflepuff, but you're definitely not a hard worker.. though you do have a lot of creative potential so better be.. RAVENCLAW!"
With a hopeful smile she looked over towards the clapping Ravenclaw students and headed over towards their table before sitting down near the front so she could still have a good view of the sorting ceremony.

Venelope clapped lightly once more, but the sound was drowned by cheers from the Ravenclaw table. She was truly questioning her firmness about what house she would go into after her sorting- only time would tell, though. "Moore, Luca," called Professor McGonnogal, rolling up the parchment and holding the sorting hat, ready to plop onto the next first year's head and determine where they would remain for many years, what permanent brand they would wear for the rest of their lives...

Luca watched as Kamrin was called up, sorted into Ravenclaw, and sat down with her future classmates. It got him wondering now where he would be placed when the announcement of his name snapped him out from his thoughts. Walking up to the stool he took a seat and waited for the results as the sorting hat was placed on his head.
"Ahh you're quite an odd one, you seem right for Slytherin due to your ambition yet you hold too much value on the rules so definitely not the cunning type and you are quite loyal so... HUFFLEPUFF!"
Luca stood up a bit puzzled by this answer but walked on over to the table anyway and found a seat close to the front just as Kamrin had done a few minutes earlier.

More students got sorted- the gaggle of first years was thinning out, and now her and two others were the only ones remaining to be sorted. "August, Venelope," Professor McGonnogal called. Venelope took a deep and calming breath as she walked over to the stool. The hall suddenly seemed much larger- she felt countless eyes resting on her and a chill was going up her spine as she sat down on the stool. The hat was placed on her head and she felt it slip quite far down. Venelope looked over the house tables and saw the students as a whole, not looking at anyone in particular: then she heard a voice.
"Hmm- you have many qualities-" the sorting hat said. "I see you're brave- very cunning and smart as well," it chortled.
Venelope held her breath, waiting- and then the hat called out, "SLYTHERIN!". It was what she was expecting. From now on green and silver would be her colors. Cheering erupted from the Slytherin table, where she slid into an empty seat and watched as Professor McGonnogal called, "Ortega, Zigmund".

Zig hated that he was the last one. It was as if everyone's eyes were on him, waiting to see where the last student would be Sorted into. Still, he held his posture, and didn't dare look anyone in the eye, as he sat down, and the Sorting Hat was placed onto his head. Hopefully this wouldn't take as long as it had with some of the students. He bit his lip, listening to the Sorting Hat murmur into his ear.
"Interesting... and loyal... a secret need to fit in, yes? An easy one this time. HUFFLEPUFF!"
Zig stood up, a smile as he walked down to the Hufflepuff table. He should have expected it, he knew, since all his older siblings were in the other three Houses. At least it was over now.
He sat down at the empty space at the Hufflepuff table.


Cato watched the other students being Sorted - including the famous Harry Potter, who he rolled his eyes about. And there were quite a few promising-seeming Slytherins that would be in his class, so he was looking forward to that, even if he wasn't going to make friends with them.

Everyone was finally sorted. Dumbledore stood up and said a few words- then the feast began. Food magically appeared on the plates right before Venelope's eyes: she ate heartily and occasionally gazed up at the starry, bewitched ceiling above- the atmosphere was warm and comfortable in the great hall.

Azula turned to the boy sat next to her "Hi! I'm Azula, you're Zigmund, right? That's what the lady with the hat called you isn't it?"
