For years the world had been in a state of peace with the major forces of darkness going eerily quiet. The gods eventually became suspicious of the calm and sent various spies in the forms of sacred creatures, minor deities, and in some cases their children to check on the monsters. What they discovered horrified them, Gaea and Apophis had been communicating with one another to bring down both of their respective gods. The two chaotic superpowers banding together caught the attention of a third, the god Loki, and he promised to help Apophis spread his chaos to all the realms. The gods on all fronts were quick to take action the Greek/Roman gods joining with the Egyptian gods to help protect Ra whilst Geb wrestled with Gaea for dominion over the earth, and the Norse gods going on the hunt for Loki.
The suddenness of their various quests left Olympus and Valhalla silent or devoid of any godly presence. Hera in a last-ditch effort to prepare their followers for whatever war was to come sent two the roman demi-gods and an einherjar to camp half-blood, a half-blood to the Brooklyn house in the 21st Nome, and a Magician into Valhalla.
