Jayden paced back and forth in front of the poster posted on the door to the hall. It was for the Yule ball, and honestly he didn't think about it since.. well since the whole ordeal with what's her face. It's just a stupid dance party thing anyways, why was he even worrying about it in the first place? He doesn't have a say in this, it's expected that he comes. There's literally no reason why he shouldn't go. No date? Flirt with a girl a little, or just find one of those fangirls. No outfit? He can get one specially made and sent from home. No actually "good" reason to go? Do it so Carring-. Oh. Carrington existed. Oh hell, if he doesn't go, that good for nothing Carrington would definitely shove it into his face. And he thought the Gryffindors were the stuck up ones. Jayden groaned and ran his hands through his hair. What was he going to do?

with a light sigh, eden gracefully walked down the hallways, away from her previous class. it had been a boring hour of alchemy, which wasn't the worst class in the world, but she didn't exactly love it. the professor had just drawled on for a solid sixty minutes about the importance of appreciating muggle chemistry research. eden felt drawn to something though, a poster on the wall. she walked over to it, studying it for a moment. some guy was standing next to her, she hadn't taken into account who, but she didn't really care.

oh no, it's the yule ball... she thought to herself. eden had loved it in her previous years, but something told her it would be different this time. for starters, she had to find a date. that would be easy, but one she'd actually enjoy being around? tough luck. no one could ever match her type of energy except... well, except jayden leong, her ex and sworn enemy. merlin, he made her blood boil. eden calmed herself down as thoughts rushed through her brain. what would she wear? what if her date was a horrible dancer? what if the slytherin afterparty wasn't as fun as it wa- woah, wait a moment. who's he? eden thought, looking over at the handsome figure standing next to her. her eyes trailed from his legs up to his face before it hit her. oh no. oh no, oh no, oh, no, oh, no, not today, not ever, never, not again, no. absolutely not. she thought, also cussing him out in her head with some not so friendly words.

eden tried to quickly walk away, hopefully before he noticed it was her, only to trip over one of his feet and land in his shoulder. she was mortified, to say the least. "sorry." she muttered coldly before speed-walking away as fast as she could. of course, of all people, it had to be jayden. it was going to be a long day.

Lily finished packing her supplies quickly, rushing out of the class with the rest of the crowd. She liked blending in with everybody; then nobody would notice her and try to talk to her. She slung her bag over her shoulder and shuffled along, avoiding eye contact with anybody, keeping her eye on the walls and the various posters plastered everywhere. One caught her eye; it was quite bright, and nicely decorated. It was for the Yule Ball. She let out a small sigh and a sad smile. She had always dreamed of going to the Yule Ball with a best friend, or even a boyfriend. But as she got closer to her sixth year, the harsh reality hit. She was never going to have a friend, much less a boyfriend. She would probably spend that night by herself, working on one of her art projects. Like how she spent most of the large celebrations at school.

Realizing that she was just standing still in the middle of the hall, Lily jolting back to her senses and continued walking. She was prone to letting her mind wander off, and before she knew it, she was imagining a bunch of impossible scenarios for the Yule Ball. She couldn't help herself; she was a hopeless romantic and her imagination was always wild anyways. While she was thinking of dates, only one person kept popping up in her head. August. They had never spoken, but, like most of the school, she harbored a small crush for him. Oh well, unrequited love was nothing new or surprising for her. As she walked, she pulled out a small box from inside her bag. One of her recent art projects was the senbazuru, or one thousand origami cranes. She would finish folding a thousand paper cranes by the end of the year, and, according to legend, one of her wishes would be granted. She thought it would be fun to do, so. She was almost done, already having made over 900 cranes. She could probably finish her project on Christmas, while everybody was out of the dorms.

August was standing outside the classroom where he'd just had a class, people were crowding around a poster. August already knew what the poster said, it was for the yule ball. He didn't feel to worried, he could ask practically any girl at school and they'd say yes but that wasn't something he wanted to do, he already had his eyes on someone. Like on que he saw Lily leave the classroom, in a crowd of people. August was a bit ashamed to admit that he never noticed her before this year, but this year she never seemed to leave his mind which he had started to resent a bit, it kept him from concentrating. He noticed how she stopped in front of the poster, his mind wondered before he could stop it and he saw an image of the two dancing at the ball. He was glad he was standing in the shadows because he felt his cheeks flush. August quickly shook the thought away and began heading to the next class.

He then bumped into someone, Eden Grey the queen of the castle. She seemed to be in a hurry, he then noticed Jayden. Something boiled in him at the sight of him but quickly understood the situation, everyone at hogwarts knew about their breakup. "Eden there you are, I was looking for you" He said, winking so only Eden could see it. He had his exes as well, if he were in the same situation he'd take any excuse to get out of the situation. There was also an added bonus that it would spite Jayden.

Jayden quickly brushed off his shoulder and shouted "Watch your freaking step Grey." He walked away in the opposite direction quickly, shuddering at the sudden contact. He can't even remember the last time she said anything to him willingly without being forced to by a teacher, let alone her being close enough to touch him. It was so long ago since she even said hi to him in the hallway that he forgot what her voice sounded like when it was joyful and not pained.
A quick thought fluttered in Jayden's mind. Did he really mind the touch? To be completely honest, he didn't mind Eden's weight on him, nor her soft hair in his face, and her eyes looking up hi- He shook that thought off. It's supposed to disgust him how she had the gall to touch him, not give him some sort of weird daydream. Jayden cursed out loud, grimacing at the increasing flow of Eden in his head. Now's not the time to worry about some random girl he dated once. It's time to worry about the Yule Ball. He can't just miss one of the biggest events of the school year with a lame excuse. All he needs to do is find someone to be his date, maybe Lily or Eva. They're both pretty girls that anyone would gawk over.

He'd just left his Charms class, with some slight disappointment. They had been practicing a water-making spell, but as it was quite the opposite of the sort of spells that Cassian had a special talent and affinity with, it had taken him some time before he got used to it, and even then he was quite sure that he still needed some practice. Still, that hadn't meant that he hadn't been his usual, clownish self in the class, making jokes at both his own expense and the spell. His routine had, as it usually did, gotten him plenty of laughs... by the ones that had a sense of humour, of course. Anyone else that didn't laugh he considered to be quite the stickler and teacher's pet.
As Cassian walked down the corridor to go towards his next class, he caught sight of a small group of students around a poster. Curious, he moved to get a closer, better look, though he stepped back as he saw that it was advertising the Yule Ball. Chances were he was going to go alone. Any events like this often had him attending alone. Sure, he'd dance with a few students (both male and female) throughout the evening, but he never had anyone to call a proper 'date'. Even when he asked another student out without there being some sort of event, he tended to get rejected, or nothing went beyond one date. By this point, though, he accepted the fact that he wasn't going to have anyone clamoring and begging to go with him, like what he was sure would happen with a few other students he knew...

the brunette tensed at her ex's hostility, clenching her teeth to keep from opening her mouth and cussing him out in return. merlin's sake, does he always have to be so rude?! she thought to herself, feeling her blood boil a little bit. at least she'd apologized, that was the most polite thing she'd done for him since the breakup... which wasn't much at all. truth be told, she was still bitter over it. he was the first guy she'd ever been vulnerable around. before him, she'd never felt comfortable around anyone, and it blew up in her face.

after that, she decided enough with emotions. she swore off letting herself catch feelings for anyone. she'd have little crushes here and there, but nothing she ever wanted to act on. eden was terrified of getting hurt, but she'd never show it. instead, she built up her walls, maybe a bit too tall and strong. she didn't have any real friends, so no one cared enough to try and break those walls down. she was on her own, and stuck with jayden on her mind.

eden blinked away the beginning of a tear that was forming in the corner of her eye, burning slightly. looking up, she met the gaze of none other than august carrington, the school's resident golden boy. he was a nice kid, the two of them got along. they weren't very close but she trusted him slightly more than everyone else, so he was good in her eyes. "august, hi." she mumbled, slightly surprised, before clearing her voice. "how are you?" eden asked with more confidence. the fact that jayden was standing a few feet away from them made it all so much worse, though. oh well, at least she wasn't talking to him.

August smiled at her, a small sympathetic smile. He waved her question away "Oh i'm fine more importantly how are you" He said "Considering, you know" He said through gritted teeth and tilted his head in jaydens direction. August always put everyone around him first, he was never the priority. When it came to Eden he had a special kind of empathy, there was an unspoken understanding between them on how hard it can be to always be in the spotlight. His heart went out to her for having to have a break-up be so public, not being allowed to be sad in order to maintain her image. August let himself glance carefully over her shoulder to see lily disappear around a corner, he quickly turned his attention back to Eden he would she Lily at his next class anyway.

a pair of silvery-blue eyes peered over at jayden and then back at august. "i'm fine." she said with a light sigh, letting her mask fall for a moment. she gazed up at august. "it's just tough, you know? he doesn't even care." she said quietly, nearly a whisper. just as quickly as she let her guard down, it came right back up and was replaced with a forced smile. "wanna walk to class? i think we have potions together anyways." she murmured, thinking of a way to just get away from the area where jayden was standing.

Lily glanced back to catch a glimpse of August. She might've stayed a bit longer to daydream, but quickly realized that she was falling behind the crowd. She sped up, trying to stuff her box of cranes back into her bag, but she suddenly slammed into somebody, being too occupied with trying to get to Potions. The impact caused her to lose her grip on the box and it was sent crashing to the floor, its contents spilling out everywhere. Lily stumbled back, letting out a small yelp of surprise. "Ack! Sorry..." She mumbled out a quiet apology, kneeling down and sweeping all of her cranes back as fast as possible, to make sure people didn't step on them. She looked up after gathering up most of the paper cranes, perking up a bit when she noticed that she had bumped into Cassian. He was one of the nicest guys in Hogwarts, and also one of the few that Lily was a bit more comfortable with befriending.
