Through the window I see no star:
Something more near
Though deeper within darkness
Is entering the loneliness:

Cold, delicately as the dark snow,
A fox’s nose touches twig, leaf;

Two eyes serve a movement,
that now

And again now, and now, and now

Asha sat cross-crossed on the bed, finally able to finish taming her wild; although quite short mane. Her head was resting and her hands were lying limp in her lap. Her head was tilted so that it was against the wall. It was peaceful in her world, and her eyes were just beginning to shut on themselves when a cry rippled from another cell, full of anguish. Instantly, Asha jerked awake from her earlier, half-conscious state.

So much for trying to be happy earlier.

Asha thought impatiently as she sat up from her unusually comfortable position, knowing that the more people unhappy at the moment; the more people unhappy later. Of course, just when she was about to doze off, something else wakes her up. That someone else was Lumi; Asha thought to herself, with an irrated eyeroll. Who else could it be? Stop trying to bring attention to yourself, already!

Then realizing how real the scream was and that real fear was radiating off her,
Asha was about to open her mouth to ask what was wrong when she realized that Lumi was crying, from the hot emotion rolling off her. Suddenly feeling very remorseful for her mental blame on Lumi trying to purposefully cause drama, she stood up.

"Are..are you okay, Lumi?"
Asha began hesitantly. In the eight, almost nine-month period she had been here, no one had really cried like this. "Is there anything I could do?" Asha felt guilty for wanting to snap at her, the tears and the emotion was real, not just some brat looking for attention and trying to cause nonsense drama. Asha was now off the bed, twisting her hands together and standing on the balls of her feet, like a bird ready to take flight. She wished that there was no walls so that she could go and try to comfort poor Lumi. She certainly didn't want the other girl to be sad, and she just couldn't stand crying.

(Sorry, I have writer's block at the moment. >< And no, Dragoness, your posts are exceptional. Everyone's posts are. :) )

(Galaxy, do you think I should take off the poem at the front if it is too long? Also, my apologies if the posts right now made by me are extremly bad, just take my advice and never RP when you are tired and half-asleep, determined to post at least some good-sized, semi-lit paragraphs. I probably have a dozen grammar mistakes that I will try to fix tomorrow.)

Lumi bit her lip till it bled, and with her sharp teeth that didn't take much. "I'm fine Asha." She said, voice rough and low from crying. She clawed at the emotion, trying to master it. But the fear and pain were still to fresh. She got up slowly, her heart beating heavily from the after effects of the memory, and walked silently across her cage and sat in a corner closer to the front with the pillow and blanket from her bed, she clung to the pillow a bit. Seeking comfort in the soft presence of it.
But a pillow just can't make up for what she'd lost.
Lumis shook her head 'Don't think like that!' she scolded her self metally. 'It does no good to let the past control you! Stop!' But she couldn't help but think that maybe she wanted to escape so badly because she'd always been in a cage. Just that the last one hadn't been so literal. She buried her face in the pillow to hide the fresh tears as she bit them back. It was harder to cry where she was more easily seen so that helped her control her emotions a bit. But not all the way. She still had to stifle a whimper.

(Little writers block there....))

"Of course you aren't okay. I'm not blind."Asha replied scathingly, her tail fur bristling. As soon as she had said that, she relented. Stupid temper! It's gonna ruin me someday! It was so dumb; letting her temper be carried away. Asha didn't want to become such an unfriendly monster, but the fox in her was growing, every time the scientists pull some sort of trick on her, every time another hybrid snarled at her, it had hurt and strenghtened her to be the same. Besides, foxes were never the friendliest, cuddliest creatures on earth. "Tell me the truth, maybe I can help." Asha spoke through the wall, her body crouched and bowed near Lumi's cage, letting her tail fur fall flat again. "Come on." She added softly, one end of her lips perked in a gentle smile. Her hands were on the ground, so were her knees. Asha wanted to know what happened. Obviously it wasn't good, and obviously the other girl's going to have second thoughts about her.

Lumi had to keep her self from snarling back defensively. Snow leopard weren't exactly friendly and she wasn't friendly naturally either. She ran her hand through her shoulder length silver hair and said lowly, her voice still a little rough. "I had a dream about a time when I was five and I'd been outside swinging on my swing set. I'd thought that if I got going really high I could jump off and fly away so I tried it, but the sun dress I was wearing got caught on the swing and I hit the ground hard. My mother came out of the kitchen and yelled at me for ruining my dress. Then my dad yelled at me for the same thing and upsetting my mother. Then he..." I stopped as I hiccuped almost to tears again and finished quietly. "He punished me, physically. Then left me in my room and didn't feed me till the next day." I almost hid in my pillow again. Then added just as softly. "That was the first time I remember them doing that to me. It took a while before I got used to that stuff." I was ripping my lips open I realized and went about cleaning the blood off my face.

Asha felt herself cringe inwardly as Lumi described the scene. A memory that she did not want to remember was forcing itself up again from the pits of her consciousness, very much in the matter of someone trying to stop themselves from throwing up, but doing so anyways. Her lips trembled as she spoke, however that moment passed quickly, and her brown eyes hardened again. She was focused on one thing: survival.

If we are to survive, we must be strong.

"He can't hurt you anymore here." Was all Asha could manage before she stopped herself. Her words were slurred; each individual word were blended together, much like melted chocolate, thick and dark and sticky, in a bowl, before the chef would heat it up, or do whatever it takes to make a chocolate cake. She just couldn't think straight, and what she wanted to say flew out of the window again. With a quick shake of her head, Asha realized how weak she sounded. "I'm so sorry for what he's done. But what can you do?" Wrapping her arms around her knees once again, Asha sat motionless in her corner, almost in a meditating stance. Thinking; pondering, wondering about their next mission. Yesterday's history; tomorrow's a mystery, but today is a gift. Learn to accept that, you'd be alot happier living here. Slowly, Asha curled her long, bushy tail around her waist, criss-crossed her legs, and closed her eyes.

It was the least she could do from stopping her temper from erupting on a daily basis.

Sophie

Sophie's gaze stayed firmly affixed to Doctor Kelley's face as he seemed to snap out of whatever mood he had been in. Her own expression was pensive as her framed eyes scuttled over his face, searching for any sign of his previous thoughts. It was an odd show of thoughtfulness that would have many curious to the person that lay beyond her dopey and nonplussed demeanor she gave off. It was gone after a moment, however, as her freckled, mellow yellow cherub cheeks bunched as her docile smile once again warmed her features. "Nothing~" She perked happily.

She gave a docile blink as she cast a look over her should, observing the obsidian feathered raven that had slunk out of the depths of her cage. 'Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary~' She droned to herself, a self-deprecating snort making its way out of her nose as the girl question the Doctor. She couldn't help but roll her eyes, she'd be heavily surprised if Doctor Kelley did answer her query. It was one thing to become comfortable with a scientist so that they were a bit looser with their lips, but to simply come out and ask a question point blank? It was madness; the girl had obviously forgotten what position she held within this facility.

About to simply turn around and walk into her cell like she was supposed to, like the good little pet she was she paused. Her nostrils flared as her pupils dilated, the gentle tang of blood dancing across her delicate olfactory senses. Her bosom thrust out as she gave a deep, haggard inhale, her upper lip curling over her teeth. She turned in a second, a complete 180 as her entire body prepared for action. She powered forward, her body become and unstoppable force in a few strides as the world blanked out around her. The noise of the other creatures fading out as a ragged, brutal snarl powered out from her chest, her body tensing for impact with the clear wall she knew laid directly in front of her.

Her right shoulder slammed into the safety glass that held the injured creatures, bursting through the wall as if it were rice paper. She paid little head as it shattered around her unstoppable form, slicing through her skin as it fell around her body in a deadly halo of shrapnel. Her forward moving body came to a stop for a single second as her nearly black eyes stared down at the bed. Taking a few strides forwards, she leant down, her hands grasping the edge of the bed as she all but ripped it from its place bolted on the wall with an animalistic snarl. She simply gazed down at the wounded crocodile displayed to her, her body bloodied as she stood there panting, adrenaline and hormones coursing through her body.

...

((So much for unbreakable cells. x|D
Sophie you juggernaut, thank God you don't think about escaping.
Don't worry, I cleared this with GG before posting. o.-
BTW, Sophie's first thought is a reciting of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven."))

The good cheer that Fabian had been in moments ago was gone now, his smile turning downwards as he turned even before hearing the answer to the Experiments question. His eyes skimmed through the cells until he found the owner of the voice that had spoken out, the raven named Cleo.

"You shall address to me as Doctor Kelley, or Kelley alone."

Fabian was tempted to add something in there as well, commenting on the speculation of this new mission and how it had not been decided yet, and then reminding the few without manners of how they would learn of any mission not longer before they were sent out. But no, that would just be from his losing his temper, and instead he wanted to appear to have control here. They would not get any information out of him, unlike the big-mouthed scientists he had hired. Fabian nearly cursed himself for hiring a few or them; names were running through his head already of the ones that most likely spilled, probably on accident, yet that did not eliminate that they did indeed say it.

"I will see you all in the morning."

With that said he leaned forward to grab the handle of Sophie's door, and for a moment paused as he noticed her stance, noticed her eyes staring blankly at the wall.

And then all hell let loose.

Fabian jumped back from the sound, nearly tripping over his own feet as it echoed through the the combined cells and out of Sophie's door, right through him. Automatically his hand leaned downwards to grip his walkie-talkie, only to find it was not indeed there. He had been foolish and left it on the table, yet if he left there was no guarantee they would still be here.
Millions went into each of these experiments, to take care of them and treat them, and that would all be wasted if he tried to leave.
And for once, Fabian did not know the answer to this problem. So he did what most people would do; he froze.

.:.:.

Everything they were saying was rather uneventful for Fredrick; it was just talk of old lives, lives that did not exist anymore. They'd get over it. They had to, unless they wanted to linger in the past and get killed on the next mission, for those who's minds do not stay in the present normally have a tendency to get emotional about the blood and the killings. And if that happened, why of course there'd have to be more newbies. The chain of life, if this could be considered life that is.

Yet his calm and docile thoughts changed rather dramatically when the very flood beneath him created a wave, a tsunami that made him momentarily limp and fall to the floor. Sophie? His moment had passed, and he pushed himself off of the floor to look in the general direction of the rhino.
It was the crocodile.
//She had shattered through the walls.//
That one thought ran through his mind, echoing for lack of a better one. They could leave now, now that the doctor was staring blankly and unable to do anything, now that they had a way to leave. A genuine smile stretched from lobe to lobe, and Fredrick stood completely this time.

I wish I had a unicorn,
So I could fly away.
Where fun isn’t worn,
Nor people do mourn,
This is where dreams are born.

⚜ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ⚜

And if there was a place like this,
Would not it be quite grand?
To jump and play in fevered bliss,
Where no one can just stand?

I long to have a unicorn,
So I could learn to fly,
Yet dreams hold scorn

. . . . . .For hopes highborn,
. . . . . .And unicorns yet to fly.

Asha scrambled up from her seated position in one swift motion, but as soon as she was on her feet, she stumbled a bit and fell right back down again as the floor echoed around her feet, as if there was an earthquake. She did so without thinking, and was dead calm, too. It must be the fox instincts. It took foxgirl a heartbeat to register that Sophie had crashed through one of the other cells. Standing up quickly; it must have been something that snapped inside her; she shot towards the wall of her cell; the fact that there were four walls around her did little to contain her, however that would be trouble. Was it possible? Could they all be freed from this pit? Asha took a moment to think of a plan and run it through her head, adrenaline pumping through her veins as hot as searing fire. Her tail lashed violently behind her like a red flag, and her hands were balled into fists as she dug her fingernails into her palms.

It was pretty risky business, but a plan all the same. Pacing inside her cell, her eyes flitted in every direction, and she realized her fault as soon as she looked up at the ceiling.

Oh, goodness me. And who says foxes have to be the smartest creature?

Asha thought, cussing under her breath.

(Clowesia, that is a pretty epic new name.) :)
