(Sorry, it's long.)
"It was almost exactly a year ago that we were all in our country house. It was simple, but nice. I was having a grand time that afternoon, watching the clouds in the tall grass of the fields around it. I looked at the house, and I see my mom and dad. Mom I can see in the kitchen cooking and baking, something she only did that much during the four weeks we would spend at the house during the summer. Dad was in the yard, playing around with our Siberian Husky named Track. My brother Zach was sword fighting with my younger brother, Kar. My youngest brother, Dastin, was playing with his toy cars nearby. They were all happy with the biggest grins you will ever see plastered on their faces. I saw that they were all so happy, and having nothing else to do, I got up and walked the mile it took to get to the lake. My best friend, Sky, was sitting on a rock dipping her feet. She smiled and waved me over. We talked about hair, guys, and battle tactics until the sun sank fairly low in the sky. From there, we parted ways, her to go back to the house, me to sneak off to meet a guy I liked. We had a simple picnick in a glade close by, and when it started to turn dark, he offered to walk me back to the lake. I declined, telling him apoligetically that my brothers might be there. We were keeping it secret from my parents, and it was hard to persuade my younger brother to keep quiet on things like that. So I walked liesurely down the path, twirling my skirt, happy. I was a half-mile from the house. That was when I saw the red glow coming from where the house sat. The sun had gone down a half-hour ago, so, as you can imagine, this made my heart speed up and my legs move from walking to sprinting. As I got closer, I began to realise that the glow was fire. The main house was ablaze, along with the stables nearby. Thinking that everyone was inside, asleep, oblivious to the blaze, I panicked, and raced inside the house. The smoke was the first thing that hit me, causing my eyes to water so that I could barely see, and making it impossible to breathe. I ignored this, and kept moving. I raced up the stairs, and exploded into Kar's bedroom." Here, Onyx paused, putting a hand to her lips, pressing back a sob. "A Vampire was standing over Kar, facing the door. H-He had blood almost completely covering his front, and his claws and fangs were wet with it. Ka-Kar was on the ground. He was so pale. He had so many scratches. I knew at once that he was dead." By now, Onyx couldn't hold the tears in check, and was sobbing openly. "He was only eight. I was so mad, and grief striken. I didn't pay attention to the fire creeping up on me, or blocking the doorway. I simply grabbed my dagger, and charged at him. He pushed me past him hard enough to send me into the wall and stun me. I slid to the ground, and he was in front of me. I shoved the dagger at him. It got him, and he doubled over. I dodged past him, and despite being ripped apart by leaving my little brother, I ran out into the hall. I ran into my parents' room. Th-They w-were both drained, dead, and scratched when I got there. I backed out fast, shaking my head, hoping that this was simply a horendous nightmare. Next, I went to Zach's room. Th-Things were worse in th-there because I-I-I think he saw what was coming, and fought back. Sky's room was the same. I stopped at the top of the stairs, parilized, tears blurring my vision. I think I screamed then. But then the Vampire was in front of me. In one hand, he held the guy I had slowly started to love over the summer, the one from the lake. His name was Miles. In the other hand, he held Dastin, only five. I could tell they were still alive, because they both looked at me just before he killed them. I could do nothing but tremble in fear and horror as he threw them to the side, and came for me. I felt a horrible pain in my shoulder and neck before everything faded." Onyx ended there, burrying her face in her hands. She feared hearing an outburst from Keirce, telling her that she was a monster to have stood by while this happened, but she fully expected it.
