Out of every potential activity Tate could've been doing, sitting in the Great Hall and listening to the headmaster drone on wasn't exactly at the top of the list; Even if said droning was concerning the Triwizard Tournament. Sure, it wasn't every year that their school held a super cool tournament full of violence and glory- but after the shock of the initial announcement wore off, it wasn't really a big deal anymore. Not to Tate, at least.

His years at Hogwarts up until then had been fairly eventful, after all. His very first night spent in the castle had been dramatic, what with his tumble down the girl's staircase, and the subsequent public outing to the entirety of Gryffindor. Which, naturally, spread to the rest of the school within the next hour. That day forward, earning basic respect was a battle, let alone getting to the point where he actually felt safe and comfortable in his own school. That pivotal moment- the one where when he realized he had more friends than foes- happened somewhere around the middle of fourth year. There were still bigots, as well as hard days, but he'd at least reached a point where he knew how to deal with it. Bottom line? The Triwizard Tournament was a little too much action- he'd rather save his fight for the real war.

He sighed, supporting his jaw with his hand and slumped over slightly as he sat sideways in his seat, facing the Headmaster's podium. It wasn't that the information being given wasn't interesting, because it was. It was simply the fact that he could've been outside instead, flying. Doing his favorite thing in the whole world. Or in Hogsmeade, sharing a big bowl of Florean Fortescue's with his friends, while they laughed and planned the next party. Anything that wasn't this borderline tortuous amount of sitting still.

Eyes flitting back her friends as the Headmaster moved on to talking about the different tasks that Triwizard Champions would face, Flora wasn't surprised to find Zach's gaze trained on the goblet. She had supposed that he would be likely to enter, and wondered if, out of the many students that put their name in the goblet, he would be selected. After all, to be ambitious was a pretty stereotypical Slytherin trait, and so she imagined that the majority of students who could enter, would.

It was without question that Lyssa would also be entering, and the girl couldn't help but wonder if she and Zach would work together regardless of who actually got selected - that was, if it was either of them.

Turning back to the front as the Headmaster bid them goodnight, the brunette stood promptly and walked from the hall back to the Hufflepuff dorms. Her mind was a flurry of thoughts, and she figured that leaving Lyssa and Zach to spend time alone wouldn't hurt anyone. Especially seeing she wasn't sure where they stood with one another.

        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure how long she had been trying to sleep for, Flora rolled out of bed and slipped on her big fluffy slippers. Slipping on an oversized jumper and grabbing a blanket, she quietly made her way downstairs into the common room and out into the corridor.

Slipping into the Kitchen, the girl had a brief chat with the house elves about her week and asked how they had found term so far. Learning that a few of the first years who had recently been sorted had already discovered the secret of the portrait hanging outside, she found herself grinning. Not many knew how to get into the Kitchen, but once you learnt that the key to getting in lie within the fruit bowl painting outside, you would be welcomed in by those who worked there with open arms.

Explaining that she was unable to sleep, the brunette was handed a flask of warm milk, cinnamon and honey and a handful of biscuits then directed to the astronomy tower. Still smiling as she left, Flora thanked the group of helpers and made her up several flights of stairs. Finally arriving, she settled down on the steps in front of the open sky and opened up her flask with a sigh.

Zach smirking, a glint in his eye, as he listened acutely to every word the headmaster spoke. He would drop his name in the goblet; he was sure of it. Zach wanted, more than anything, to prove he was worthy to his family. An equal to his brother. His eyes darted to Flora and Alyssa next to him and briefly wondered where Laurence had got to. Zachary bit his lip and narrowed his eyes which were locked on the Goblet. He wasn't sure if he was completely aware of the danger but he had the nerve to persevere.
-

As students began filing out of the Great Hall, Zachary watched Flora step into the crowd and disappear from sight. He thought nothing of it, turning to Alyssa instead. "Would you care to join me in dropping my name into the cup later on this evening?" Zach asked smirking, running his hand through his dark brown hair. He had spoken to Lyssa briefly about the Tournament before and had noted her eagerness to compete. He had been hoping since then, they would both enter their names together. In the end, only one person was to be picked from Slytherin but if it was Alyssa and not him, he would be just as determined to help her win.

-

After speaking with Alyssa, they parted in the Slytherin common room as he took the stairs to the boy's dorm and she, to the girl's dorm. No one was asleep. The boys were separated into packs, sat on the floor or beds, discussing strategies to get past the age line set down by the headmaster or speculating the three tasks to come. Zachary made his way past and took refuge from the commotion in his bed. He reached for his portable radio at the bottom of the bed and tuned it but the noise from the slytherin boys drowned out any noise it emitted. Angrily, Zach shoved a pillow over his head and stretched his legs out, thinking, they'll soon shut up. But after a while, the constant talk of the Tournament had got to Zach's head and he'd had enough. Leaping out of bed, he reached the common room and was about to call for Alyssa when something stopped him. Instead, Zachary's feet lead him out of the room and into the corridor. Soon enough, he had found the steps leading to the tallest tower at Hogwarts: The Astronomy Tower. It was out of bounds for students so it was perfectly uninhabited. Tonight, the sky was clear and cloudless and moonlight bathed the room, flooding it in a cool glow. Only at the top step did he realise there was someone else here. Flora was perched on the steps on the other side of the tower, gazing at the night sky, flask in hand and wrapped in a blanket. Had she heard him? Zachary cleared his throat, hoping not to make her jump and wandered closer. "Beautiful," he commented, as her face came into view and their eyes met, "the sky, isn't it?" he said calmly, smirking, adverting his gaze to the stars.

Casirnir stared, wide-eyed, at the Goblet as the headmaster described the Triwizard Tournament. She felt honoured to be at Hogwarts while the chosen representatives were participating and also relieved she was too young to join in. To her, it seemed far to menacing for her liking. She decided, overall, it would be best to support the student stepping up to represent Ravenclaw. Cassie looked around the Ravenclaw table, wondering who would be brave enough to put their name in the cup. She tilted her head to the Slytherin table where all of the students seemed raring to enter.

Evelyn breathed out a sigh of relief when Julian appeared from the changing rooms. "Yes," she agreed hastily to him, "I don't this the storm is going to ease off any time soon." They dashed to castle, Eve get soaked again even after Flora's friend had cast a hot-air charm. She made a mental note to search up the charm for whenever it would come in handy in the future. Once they were safely back inside, Evelyn turned to him, "you were brilliant!" she exclaimed, grinning.
-
Eve slipped in at the back of the Great Hall with Julian, taking a place at the slytherin table. She glanced nervously at the ravenclaws, across the hall but none of her friends had noticed her. Evelyn was silent as the headmaster spoke but as the speech came to a finish, she nudged Julian gently. "Feels real now that the Goblet is right there," she said, eyes wide and still trained on it.

Julian followed Eve into the Great Hall and over to take a seat at the Slytherin table for dinner, slightly bewildered by her eagerness to sit at the house table of a different house than her own, though he didn't have time to question it as the Headmaster began to speak and he turned to watch. The hall seemed to thrum with palpable excitement as the man continued on about the tournament. Julian’s eyes rested on the revealed goblet eagerly until Eve nudged him, startling him out of his reverie. His hand resting beneath his chin, he turned to face her, an eyebrow quirking up at her words. β€œHave you reconsidered putting your name in?”

Saran ate quietly as she listened to the Headmaster’s speech and the whispers surrounding it, a small smile on her face. γ€€γ€€γ€€γ€€( slytherin seventh year ) ( parselmouth ) ( location─ great hall ) ( tags─ none )

liam miller held no interest in the tournament himself, allowing his thoughts to wander elsewhere whilst the headmaster explained the events that were to take place at hogwarts. the goblet glittered wondrously atop the podium where it had been placed, watching as the headmaster disappeared from the stage. curious, he thought. he found the entire thing to be a rather strange concept indeed, although saw it as a form of entertainment. surely, he decided, this year would not be as boring as its predecessor had once been.

γ€€γ€€γ€€γ€€( ravenclaw seventh year ) ( ilvermorny transfer ) ( location─ great hall ) ( tags─ ben )

samuel adley clutched tightly within his grasp a paper map─ the left half of it, at least. the right half was held up by his brother benjamin, who stood at his side. despite the aid given to him by the map, although little it was, samuel managed to have gotten the both of them lost among the ever moving staircases and twisting halls, unable to find the entrance to the great hall. he had previously insisted that they needed no help from neither the staff nor the higher ranking students in navigating the castle, now regretting his decision upon further thought.

" say, benjamin, do you reckon we're almost at the hall? " he lowered the map to stop and look at benjamin, who had already given his answer in turn. " already there? why, those directions worked better than I had planned. wouldn't you agree, benjamin? " samuel gave a short laugh at the situation they had found themselves in, gently tugging the map out of benjamins reach and stuffing it into a pocket of his. outstretching his arm for benjamin to accept, samuel wasted not another minute to begin his approach towards the beautifully designed door ahead. " welcome to hogwarts, benjamin! "

benjamin adley lifted the other half of the map for samuel to see, watching as his brother pointed down one hall after the other. surely, he figured, they were hopelessly lost. he didnt bother to speak up against the directions given by samuel, as he himself didnt have the slightest clue of which turn to take either. benjamin attempted to understand the inky lines drawn across the map, supposedly pathways, though to him they were nothing but the mindless scribbles of a child. useless, really. though samuel didnt seem to give up on it just yet.

at the sound of samuels voice benjamin dropped the map at his side as he did, assessing the surrounding area for a clue to their whereabouts. " I would sure hope so, samuel. I believe we're already there. " his eyes met with a door larger than them, carvings in the wood covering the front. each of the four arches around it stooped lower than the last until it reached the door once more. allowing the map to be taken from his grasp, he reached forward to link arms with his brother. " welcome to hogwarts, samuel. "

chance mulligan had been informed upon his arrival from the states that he was to be placed in hufflepuff, a house he could only assume to be equivalent of his previous house at ilvermorny. chance had arrived earlier than the other transfer students he had been told would be coming to hogwarts alongside him, already placed in a seat among the other house members. he didnt understand any of the information the headmaster was offering him, the words seeming to escape his grasp. he decided it to be an event, though what kind of event he had not yet gathered. before he had managed to fathom the competition as a whole, the headmaster disappeared from their place on stage, leaving him wondering what was going on around him.

joshua wilson had arrived at hogwarts on the train as the others had rather than coming later for the tour he and the transfer students had been offered. sitting patiently at the gryffindor table, the house he was told he now belonged in, joshua waited for the feast to end for the night. as the headmaster began his speech regarding the tournament he could feel a faint tug on his arm, turning to see his little cousin emma clinging to his sleeve in what he could only assume to be excitement on her part.

joshua turned to face his cousin once the headmaster had disappeared from behind the podium, waiting for her to quit the excited squeaky noises she was giving. " emma, what are they talking about? " he waited for a reply, his eyes growing ever so slightly wider at the response given. " the triwizard tournament? ' eternal glory '? " he repeated once more. " and me, joining?.. im not sure, em. "

emma taylor sat patiently at the gryffindor table, awaiting the words to come as the headmaster announced the upcoming tournament that was to be held that very year. emma herself was unable to participate, having been a year younger than the requirements demanded her to be. she began to tug gently on the sleeve of her cousin seated beside her, giving little squeals of joy. she seemed utterly aghast at the question asked. " how could you not know, josh? you ought to be living under a rock─ its the triwizard tournament, of course! oh, its wonderful! the headmaster promises glory to whoever may win, isnt it grand? you should join, josh! oh please, wont you put your name in the goblet? Alyssa Denton / Slytherin head girl + Seeker + team captain / 6th year / Straight / 16 / location: Quidditch pitch / tags: Zach, Flo

Alyssa Had been eating calmly for awhile averting her gaze away from her friends trying to not focus on Zach and Flo. It was really tearing at her that Zach could have feelings for her good friend, she knew for a fact that she still liked him but she was terrified to speak her feelings to Flo, she didn't want to hurt her. She looked up at the headmaster and listened to his speech, "eternal glory." 'that would be nice.' She thought to herself as she kept listening intently to the wise man, she was so determined to be chosen and win this tournament, finally give Slytherin the glory they needed after what had happened during the wars. As people started leaving she gathered her bag and almost left the great hall to avoid awkward conversation between Flo and Zach when an all to familiar voice made her turn around. At first she thought he would have been talking to Flo but she was nowhere to be seen, "Of course, I'd love too," she said as she smiled sheepishly. 'Don't act stupid Lyssa, don't make it seem like you still like him!' "I was just going to do it tomorrow after classes, i thought you would have gone with Flo to be honest. You guys have seemed closer lately." It hurt her to say that, 'Why did I say that! Stupid!' it made her feel like the ultimate friend zone. This was going to be an interesting year with her mind challenging her feelings...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With that they parted way to their own dorms and as Alyssa started to get snuggled in her warm and cozy bed her dorm mates came walking in, most likely weren't going to sleep anytime soon. But they didn't care, it was almost like Zach's situation with his dorm mates, they were loud and annoying most of the time. She slipped into her dark fuzzy slippers and walked downstairs to the common room in her Slytherin Quidditch captain hoodie and black shortie shorts, she didn't care how she looked right about now. As she was making her way down the stairs she caught glimpse of Zach who looked like her was about to call up to her dorm like he always does when his dorm mates are too loud, but he didn't, he just walked out. She though it was a good idea to follow him, being the good friend she is, y'know, in case he was sleep walking. She kept a distance from him in case he wasn't sleep walking and followed him up to the Astronomy tower, 'What is he doing he-' she stopped mid thought as he walked over to Flo. 'Of course, I knew it! God why do I still have feelings for him when he clearly has feelings for her?! I'm a horrible friend.' she tried to hide as so she wouldn't get caught when they left. She so wished that she had to tower alone to herself to think about her feelings and seriously contemplate life, but she accidentally knocked over something on the shelf which made them turn around. "Uh hey," She waved to her two friends, "I wasn't eves dropping I swear I came up to get some fresh air and not be stuck in the same room as my idiot dorm mates. Sorry," she lied, she was kind of following zach but hey, what they don't know won't kill them. "You guys looked like you were in the middle of something, I didn't mean to intrude." She forced a smile and left, she felt like crying, or screaming, or just cursing something. Her jealousy was really getting to her, she needed to get away from her troubles and as always headed to the kitchen for that. She knew the secret from Flo, and loved talking to the house elves. She quickly tickled the pear on the portrait and walked in. Greeted by the elves, she sat down on a stool in front of the island where some of them were preparing tomorrow's breakfast and she talked about how her studies and classes were going, about how she felt about everything, and how she was going to enter the tournament. She was probably the only Slytherin who was nice to them, who they liked, because they were always so sweet and caring to make sure she would eat and study and get enough sleep before exams. She didn't know how long she was in there until someone else came in.

^ sorry that was long, I have been out for so long and haven't posted long things either so I thought I should make up for it.

Almost getting lost in thought as she gazed up into the clear sky, Flora found herself drawn to a cluster of stars that seemed to be closer to the Earth than the others. Sitting here, it almost seemed they were touchable, and part of her wanted to reach out, to be a part of the community that belonged to the vast blue expanse. She came her quite often, knowing that it was restricted to students but not really caring. It calmed her down after a long day, and the view was always magnificent.

Slightly startled as somebody cleared their throat, the girl turned to look at the stairs and found Zach, illuminated by moonlight. Smiling as he started to move closer, she found her face starting to flush as he spoke. Beautiful, turning back to look at the sky before her, she nodded. ”With the weather being so bad before, I hadn’t thought that it would clear up. There’s something so calming about coming up here and looking out at such beauty.” Flora affirmed as she looked back to him. Moving up slightly in case he wanted to take a seat, she offered him a biscuit, wondering what had brought him up here. Taking a moment, she was confident that she had figured it out, and spoke again, [b]”Dorm mates keeping you awake with all their tournament entry planning??”

The brunette offered him a wry smile, knowing that once boys started to get psyched about something, it could be a nightmare calming them down. A crash from further back in the room almost made her jump once more, but turning, she saw that it was Lyssa and found her smile returning. ”Hey, can’t sleep either??” She asked as her friend exclaimed she wasn’t eavesdropping and that her dorm mates were keeping her up. Opening her mouth to speak once more, she found herself silent as the other girl ran off, and her heart started to pound. Were she and Zach in the middle of something? Of course that would be how it looked, but Lyssa had jumped to a conclusion far too quickly. Worried that her friend was upset, she pursed her lips for a moment.

This is what had kept her awake to start!! Now she felt terrible. Still, she looked to Zach, waiting to see what his take on everything was.

Zach took a seat next to Flora, eye's trained on the sky. His face laughed as Flora spoke, "you could say that!" He remembered a lesson from a few years ago where he had stood in this exact spot, studying the night sky through a telescope and reciting the names of planets and stars. Zach wished he had continued with astrology in his last two years but unfortunately the opportunity never arose. Zachary raised his hand, pointing a finger at a specific star over to the left, set apart from the rest. "Jupiter," he concluded, his voice husky and gruff. "I can still remember learning the name's of Jupiter's moons in fifth year," he chuckled, "there was Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Io and one beginning with A.." Zachary wondered if Flora had learnt the same. She had picked the perfect spot and the perfect night and he was glad they had this time, together.

Then, a loud crash, disturbed their quiet conversation and he stood up immediately. It was Alyssa. Zachary couldn't tell if he was pleased to see her or annoyed that she had interrupted their peaceful moment. He wasn't oblivious, Zach could see the hurt in her eyes and raging jealously in her voice. As she ran off, Zach turned around, walking out onto the balcony and rested his arms on the railing. Should I have followed her? He looked to Flora. He had been hoping not to speak about any of this as Zach and his emotions didn't go hand in hand. The brown-haired boy was at a loss for words.

Casirnir wandered back up to her dorm room, hit with a wave of noise as she opened the door.

Tessa's eyes darted around the Great Hall. Most pupils had left for their dorm rooms but she stayed seated. The towering doors to the hall would stay open all night to allow students to drop their name into the cup. Although the idea of participating in the three tasks did intrigue her, she wasn't allured by the fame and glory nor the responsibility of representing Slytherin. It just wasn't her. Perhaps I'm becoming soft, she thought. Tess' gaze wandered down the Slytherin table to rest on a boy she had never met before. Feeling sociable all of a sudden, Tessa slipped out of her seat, walked carefully around the head of the table and came to sit beside him. "Tess," she said, nodding to him, after feeling a handshake was too formal.

Evelyn shook her head, a soft smile appearing on her face, "still a definite no!" Evelyn was pretty certain by now, after the headmaster's frightening speech, that the tournament wasn't for her. Julian's face had lit up with excitement when he had first locked eyes on the Goblet and it was clear to see he couldn't wait to enter. "What time are you dropping your name in?" she asked, stuffing closer to him and people began to leave the Great Hall for their dorms where she was sure no sleeping was taking place. Eve glanced over at the ravenclaw table and caught the eyes of a few girls in her classes. They glared at her with a burning hatred and she could just make out their lips mouthing the word 'traitor'. Eve wasn't disturbed by them, it was her sister she was anxious to not be seen by. If Cassie told their parents she had been spending an awful amount of time with a slytherin she wasn't sure what they'd do.

Jacob watched the cup apprehensively as the headmaster spoke about the upcoming Tournament.

Jasper sat with the rest of the professors, admiring the headmaster's dramatic speech. He himself, wasn't sure after the description of the tournament, whether he would've entered if given the chance.

Alyssa Denton / Slytherin head girl + Seeker + team captain / 6th year / Straight / 16 / location: kitchens / tags: Zach, Flo

It was peaceful in the kitchens, busying herself with helping the house elves with the food. She lost thought about what had happened, she knew for a fact they liked each other and she would just have to get over it. "I'm tough, I can get over it... Right?" She asked the house elf who had be consoling her the whole time she was here, this specific house elf in particular was in Alyssa's opinion, her favorite. Even though she really doesn't have favorites, this one was the one she could always talk to. She was busy making the biscuit batter and helping clean the counters and dishes, she was all over the place. It smelled great by the time almost everything was done baking or cooking, she almost couldn't help herself when she slipped a piece of bacon in her mouth while an elf carried a tray out the door. She started thinking of Zach and Flo again, how they looked all sweet and cozy, it made her heart pound in her chest and her face hurt as she tried not to cry. She probably jumped way over conclusions, she felt so many emotions. Jealousy, sorrow, happiness because as long as her friend was happy she was, she felt bad for jumping to a conclusion and running off. "This is gonna kill me," She explained to her trusted elf, he advised to go and talk to her. But Lyssa didn't know if she could bring herself to do it. "i should, but I don't want to sound like an an arse when I talk to her bout how I feel, I can't let my jealousy get a hold of me." She sighed as she thought about it. Why was this getting her so upset? She didn't know, she decided to bid her farewell to the house elves and head for her dorm before sunrise to try and relax and maybe fall asleep in the common room. She slipped through the corridors and past all the sleeping portraits careful not to be seen. She passed by the astronomy tower on her way back and she peeked inside to make sure they still weren't there so maybe she could get her own alone time with some air? She didn't see them but didn't want to chance it, she kept sneaking down to the dungeons hopeful that Zach would not already be in the common room, she felt she already made enough of a scene.

Balancing her snacks on her knee, Flora took a sip from the flask and nodded as Zach raised his hand and pointed to a specific region in the sky. Swallowing is as he started to list the moons, she found her lips tugging into a small smile as she looked at him, preparing to answer. "Jupiter has a crazy amount of moons, I think it's estimated that there are over 70. There are a few beginning with an 'a' though, maybe you're thinking of Adrastea??" She questioned before looking back out towards the stars. "I love Astrology, I think it's so interesting that the universe is so vast - it's beautiful. Just as you said before."

Following Alyssa's departure, Zach stood and walked to the balcony. After a moment, Flora followed suit, popping her flask and biscuits down on the steps and wrapping the blanket around herself. Standing in silence for a moment, she mused whether she should return to her dorm but decided that at this point, she would never sleep while her head was so unclear. Raising her hand and pointing as he had before, she smiled. "Mars." Falling into silence once more, the brunette found herself feeling guilty. She knew that she was putting Zach in an uncomfortable position, and hoped to offer some comfort somehow. But she was unsure whether mentioning what had just happened would help, and so instead took a different route. "Will you and Lyssa be putting your names in the goblet tomorrow?? I suppose she must have come up here for some air too."
