Yugioh ZEXAL: A New Utopia

Regina felt her grip tighten on her cards as the ancient water-logged city faded away. Her opponent's spell causing a large glowing tree to take it's place instead. Meanwhile Drill Barnacle's attack and defense points both dropped by 200. Time to rework her strategy. Without Lemuria things were going to be more difficult but not impossible to manage.

"Next," Yolei said, "I'm summoning Satellarknight Vega to the field in attack mode!" Beside Deneb, a masked woman in a pink dress rose, a golden arch draped over her shoulders. "And when Vega enters the field, I can summon one more tellarknight monster from my hand as well. Come forth, Satellarknight Alsahm!" On Deneb's other side, another white-armored warrior rose, bow in hand. "And when Alsahm is summoned, he instantly deals one thousand points of damage directly to your life points!" Alsahm drew back his bow, releasing a shining golden arrow that arced over Regina's monsters and headed directly for her heart.

The idea to counter Yolei's move instinctively crossed her mind but just as quickly disappeared. The shining arrow piercing right through where the teen's heart was making her stagger backwards. She fell to a knee holding where the arrow pierced as her life points dropped according to the monster's effect. Even if Regina had a card ro use, there was no point with the other girl's spell card in play. Her monster's effects couldn't be negated. "Ok that hurt a bit.", the green haired duelist said getting uneasily to her feet again.

"And now," Yolei said, "I'll overlay my level four Deneb, Vega, and Alsahm!" As the monsters vanished into swirls of light, Yolei pulled her corresponding card from her Extra Deck with a flourish. The reserved nature she usually kept was falling away, as it always did when she got wound up. Duels were one of the few places she could really relax. "Come forth, harbinger of summer, and rain celestial wrath from on high! I Xyz summon Stellarknight Delteros!" In a burst of light, a winged figure appeared on the field. In one hand it held a sword, and in the other a glowing triangular shield. "And thanks to my field spell," the duelist continued, "Delteros gains 200 attack and defense points for every material attached to it. Which means it's now sitting at 3100 attack points."

Regina grit her teeth watching as Yolei summoned her brand new Xyz Monster. A monster that was packing a good 3100 attack points, just as it's summoner said. Something inside the green haired teen stirred. Eyeing up the lay out of the field before her and her hand the truth soon enough dawned on the female duelist. Another cold harsh truth. There was only one monster capable of defeating a creature like this in the girl's duel deck or rather her extra deck. Not that Regina needed a reminder to know it. But could she play it against Yolei? The monster she had promised her father to keep safe...to use only in an emergency to protect those close to her. The monster who the teen had been overjoyed to be entrusted with and said she'd keep safe. The monster who was her very connection to her family in physical form.

'....get out.'

The last words Kio said to her echoed in Regina's ears, the cold firmness with which they were spoken making it feel as if she'd just had a head first crash down the stairs. How could he say those words after she went to see him. Went to see him out of concern for his well being at that. If anything the bluenette should have thanked the girl, not cast her out. He was all alone before she came along. Regina had simply been acting as one would expect any real friend to behave. She wanted to help and take his pain away...the loneliness he had since who knew how long. The girl wanted Kio to know he wasn't as alone as he assumed for years on end, not anymore. He had her. Even if the girl wasn't half Barian there was no need for secrets to be kept around her. She knew all about the Barians, heck possibly more then he did and he was one of them! Yet Kio chose to side with liers who'd abandoned him as an infant rather then the one who came looking for him. Because, contrary to his belief, Rio wasn't the one who came searching. That was the student. And it was Regina who tucked away the mark of the boy's Number.....27 was it....from prying eyes of the medical staff and anybody else just in case. How Kio suddenly acquired a Number was awhile other story which Regina really had no time or patience for at the moment. Still it was that women her schoolmate choose over her while she herself was all but flat told she wasn't wanted.

What resembled the head of a spider but blue with a red gem on it's head popped into Regina's mind.

Yolei's eye twitched involuntarily as something sparked in the back of her mind. Suddenly, her perspective shifted, and the duel took on a strange, foreboding light. She wasn't sure why, and she wasn't sure what, but something had changed. With a blink, the feeling was gone. She could reflect on that later. "Now, Delteros," she called out, "strike down that barnacle! Starlight Slash!" Yolei's monster raised his sword and charged, the blade carving a glowing arc in the air as it struck at Drill Barnacle.

Regina screamed as she was sent backwards with the destruction of Drill Barnacle. The teen landing sprawled out face down as her life points eventually settled at 1200.

"And with that," Yolei said, "I end my turn. I hope you have something up your sleeve, Regina, or this is going to be a short duel."

The girl on the ground started to shake when Yolei announced her turn's end. At first it seemed like Regina was laying there crying but, as the young duelist started to get to her feet, that guess was clearly proven to not be the case. It wasn't crying that shook the girl, it was laughter. The teen pushed herself to her feet staggering while shaking with laughter. A dark aura materialized around Regina once she got to her feet again to grin darkly in her opponent's direction. Her purple eyes holding the same dark energy and cruel amusement behind them. "A short duel? Of this will definetly be a short duel Yolei but not as you think it's going to be. If you're going to be afraid of the sea anyway, then may as well tive you a nightmare to truly be afraid of then right?", said Regina in a voice that seemed off....wrong....from just a minute ago, "It's my move!" The teen removed the card from her deck turning her gaze toward it. Her smirk twisted into one of dark childish delight almost. "I summon forth Saber Shark in attack mode!", she slammed the monster card onto her duel disk. In kind a fountain of water sprung up on the field before being sliced in half and dispersed by a shark with a metal-looking jaw and blade sticking straight out of it's forehead. It growled at the other female teen. "Next I activate my facedown! Go Aqua Mirage!" The card which had been set facedown on Regina's first turn flipped face up glowing.

Yolei's head pulsed again, as a burst of whispering filled her mind. It was too soft for her to understand, but somehow she doubted she would have been able to comprehend them anyway. Something was very, very wrong here. Was Regina doing this? Her voice was different now, darker, and the grin on her face was anything but happy. Her hand went to her duel disk, ready to activate Delteros' ability, but something stopped her. Now wasn't the time, she thought, she needed to wait.
