Maybe someday he would tell her about the time he had come close to joining another herd, and how he had got his scars. But not today, he was happy and telling her his story would spoil that. He watched Luka lie down in a corner of his cave and realised how genuine his happiness was. I could get used to having her around, he thought nonchalantly, fluttering up to the rocky ledge he slept on and curling up in the familiar groove. As he closed his eyes he smiled.

Lakota didn't feel too bright and energetic today, just tired and stiff. She smiled at Shade regardless. "Is it fun being a leader, Shade?" she asked.

Luka didn't yet like Mantle the same way she did Rowki, yet she couldn't help having feelings for the dragon. Luka studied Mantle hard, wondering how he must feel being a loner for so long. She could easily go back to her tribe, but she couldn't see herself doing that in the near future. She wouldn't leave Mantle that way, and then she realized in horror that she would stay with him as long as he didn't want to leave; She had bonded with him in the short time she'd known him.

Holly smiled brightly when she realized that Zoe's eggs had hatched. "Congratulations!" She purred silkily, nuzzling Bakura. A lone heartache throbbed in her heart, missing her mate. Holly's mate was sent to exile by the previous leader, not Shade. The previous leader, Kagnar, was unfair and loved to send dragons into exile or execute them, even when they were innocent. It was Shade who overthrew Kagnar and killed him in battle, saving the Azuli Mountain Dragons and letting them live in peace. Holly assumed that her mate was dead, but she still missed him. Kagnar was a bad leader, and he abused his power, rising to leadership through arrogance and violence, killing his way to the top, as well as murdering the leaders before him as well. Holly was glad that Shade was here now.
