Carson hugged his father, accepting a kiss to his head without complaint. He had to subtly stand on his toes more to actually wrap his arms comfortably around his father's torso. Now if only he could hit that growth spurt that had shot his father to his towering 6'1".
They released each other as the two women in their family rejoined them, having handed over AJ's things to the staff. Wussie, of course, was cradled in her arms. In a similar fashion, Templeton was curled around Carson's neck.
The step-siblings traded parents, AJ wrapping her free hand around her step-father and burying her head into his chest as he squeezed her tight, a hand on the back of her head and a thumb stroking back and forth, while Carson leaned ever so slightly over so Maiko didn't have to stretch to hug him.
"Take care of your sister," Maiko murmured into his ear.
Carson chuckled. "Of course, Mama."
It went without saying, really, that Carson would look out for AJ; he would always do so, regardless of being told so. Reminding him was just something Maiko always did when the parents and children separated, a way for her to maintain a piece of mind that they would be there for each other.
"We should get going," AJ announced, laying a hand on her brother's broad back. Carson nodded and released Maiko, waving to her and Jason as he followed AJ across the station to the waiting train.

AJ stopped at the steps onto the train, turning to wave one final time to their parents before entering with Carson. She stepped aside to allow him to find a compartment for them, hating the process of doing so herself. She prayed they'd find an empty one, so she could simply curl up against her brother and sleep the entire way to the school. She was already feeling drained by just being around so many people.
Unfortunately, their empty compartment was not to be.
AJ brought Wussie up to her chest, burying her face in his silky fur as Carson spoke to the people inside the compartment.
"Am I interrupting something?"
AJ groaned inwardly at his suggestive tone. If she wasn't so embarrassed by him, she might've smacked him. Plus, she'd have to release Wussie to do so. No way was that happening anytime soon!
