Jay walked home after school, feeling confused about what had happened earlier. It was like she could control the air... As she usually did, she lost track of what was happening and started to fantasize about having air powers. What would be the best thing if she could control air? Flying, definately flying, she thought in her head. She imagined herself walking into the air, higher and higher, until she was flying, saoring past the buildings and the empty street, arms outstretched, wind through her hair...
Breaking through her daydream, a thought registered in her mind: Wow, how did the wind pick up so fast?
She burst open her eyes, and her feet were not below her. Instead, the ground was - and it was a long way away. Her mind froze in shock. I'm flying. I'm actually flying. Joy started to overcome her terror. She had always dreamed of flying, an dnow she was...
Then, a searing pain stabbed her left hand. She felt it crumple... Just as the question aroused in her mind, she got the answer. She had hit her hand on the side of a building, and probably broken it. Slowly, she dropped to the ground. Cradling her injured hand, she hurried home.
Pushing into her house and stowing her key back in her back, Jay called out to her father. Her was a doctor, so he would know what to do. "Jay, you're home early. Wha-" He saw her hand. "What happened?"
"I hit it against something. Really hard." He looked at her questioningly. "By accident." Her dad sighed.
"I better get to work then, shouldn't I?"
A few hours and questions later, Jay was at home again. Confined to her bed for the rest of the day, she drew picture after picture with no success: Her right hand just couldn't draw like her left, even though she could write perfectly well with both. She looked out the window wistfully. She wanted to practise flying. She knew that this was a gift not to be wasted.
