In one last jolt of the power in her muscles, Arisu's hand tightened around the man's neck. A neck that was now nothing. Each of the cat-girl's long golden claws met nothing but air and, cutting through it, slipped upon it's twin with a metallic sigh. Her eyes widened, wet, sticky trails of tears still scarring her cheeks under them. Her hands dropped: the surprise and seriousness that had sparked in her face melted away from it. She was silent for an instant.
Then someone hollered behind her. She jolted up, looked around, her golden hair spinning, dissolving her flames of furyoku. Auris. "See all I had to do was show up and he ran!" he exclaimed. Arisu looked at the triumphant grin on his face. She frowned silently, knitted her brow. Her arms swayed, a little, by her side. She frowned.
Only that sound of falling took her away from her silence, her quiet downward pull of the lips. Celeste.
"Celeste." Arisu said softly. She had jumped carefully down from the tree and had walked towards her friend. Slowly. Now, now she looked at the mass of blonde hair that covered Celeste's eyes as she looked at the floor. She said nothing. Then, slowly, she pulled out her hand, hand of which the wrists were strapped with their claws, dangling, unarmed. She pulled out her hand and offered it to Celeste. Took hers. Gently, slowly, pulled her up. Said nothing.
"Arisu, Celeste." Bastet said, her voice serious and clear even from a distance. She had regained her animal form after having slipped out of Arisu's weapons and then glided across the grass to the fallen ones. She didn't look back at the two girls she was addressing, just asked them to come. Then waited.
Arisu turned around, called by the cool voice of her spirit. Yes: Ryoshi, Uzumi. She kept Celeste's hand with her and made the few large steps that separated her and them. Steps that seemed like slow-motion to her, muted. She fell to her knees next to them. Looked down at their faces. Wordlessly. Now was the time to cry. Then why wasn't she crying? Only her face was crying, twisted, bent, folded. Silent. And some guilty knot in her throat even kept her from saying their names.

If you listen closely you can hear me cringing at all the purple prose I wrote on this green hellscape of a website circa 2011-2014.
