"Well, I'm not quite sure, I always just assumed she was in one of those newfangled body modification cults, I never bothered to ask. But she's a nice girl, really." The wrinkled old man answered. He had seen enough of those 'body modification' cults, although he didn't quite understand them himself. He had a single tattoo-it was a picture of a bear-man crouching down on a stone and releasing a handful of leaves on the wind, and the leaves turned into a bird eventually. A small sparrow. It was a beautiful work of art and complimented his beep chocolate skin, but he didn't know why it struck him when he saw it. Feeling rather awkward now, not really knowing what to do, David was just about to hail the girls over to him so that Christolph could ask them himself, but then a burly and deep voiced teenager strolled up to them, deeply tanned and with shaggy black hair. "What's up?" The stranger asked in a scratchy and deep voice-as if he hasn't used his voice for a while. David chuckled when his Germanic friend answered "Clouds und sky." It was a silly answer to him-he thought that he was simply making a joke and not actually serious about it. David stepped forward a bit, holding out his callused and wizened paw of a hand. "I'm David Marshall, you might know me as the town's practical Grandpa. And as for what's up, I'm escorting this stranger to the post office. He's new in town. Now, kiddo, may I know you're name?"

"I'm, ahem, Hunter," said Hunter, and shook David's hand. It was rough and callused-a sure sign of hard work. He like this man immediately. "Hunter...McKinley." He shuddered inwardly when he said his last name, given to him by his hated parents. He vowed to change it later. He caught a whiff of something as strange and mystical as him and the vampire on the breeze. Dragon? He breathed in deeply. No, half-dragon. He sighed with relief. Half-dragons were usually very nice and not at all malevolent. But it was strange how many mythical creatures were in this town. Vampire, werewolf, half-dragon. Coincidence? Or was there a deeper reason? "So you're heading to the post office? I gotta go there too. I...um, gotta send a postcard to...my girlfriend. Yeah. She's in California." He made up an excuse on the spot. Anything so he could watch that vampire.

Max raised an eyebrow at her friend when Sonja stopped to sniff lightly at the air, the slightly upturned end of her nose quivering like a rabbit's. "My blue-horned friend, what are you doing?" Sonja looked at her, then back at the group on the other side of the street. "Something's not right about them. David's just David and you're just you, but the tall one and the one that's about our age... they smell funny." Max rolled her eyes. "Not this again. There's nothing different about them at all. And even though you claim to have had those horns and scales forever, I swear, you're pulling my leg." "I'm not!" protested Sonja. The two friends began arguing quietly, some about Sonja's horns, a bit about going over and talking to the strangers.

There was so much about this time period that Christolph was unfamiliar with. For one, he did not come from an age where medicine was so advanced that humans could modify their bodies in such a fashion…but he assumed that if a man of David’s age knew what it was, then it had to be relatively wide spread. Secondly, although the burly German was a man who rarely doubted his intellect (as he was now doing) there were countless things that confused him. Perhaps he had been wrong about the scent of dragon on that girl, and maybe…just maybe it wasn’t something so rare these days as it was when he could last recall. Christolph was still having difficulty adjusting to the countless horse-less carriages zooming down the street.

How did he come to get here…now? There was a bar…he was alone…and now this? Christolph started to get another migrane, and he grasped the temples of his skull to cope while David offered up an introduction to the stranger; providing him with an outlet to focus on instead. Putting his sunglasses and hat back on, Christolph gazed at the boy fully and concluded that the threat of his presence was minimal. The hefty vampire had battled with lycans far larger, older, meaner, and dangerous to be down right petty. Causing a fight with this young male would not advantageous to his goal of getting to the post office.

However, his hope for answers did not alleviate the fact that he downright despised most lycans…having seen them do completely inhuman acts on the weak. It was true that there were vampires of the same caliber, but he was a stubborn male who had difficulty removing the memories of a young Wassersauger vampire completely ruined psychologically because she had been enslaved by a lycan for sixteen long years...it was Christolph who had led the mission to save her, and it was he who clubbed the villain to death with his war hammer. He was a diplomat…but Christolph could turn into a barbarous monster when the bloodlust was on him.

All of these memories clouded his hearing from picking up on the argument between the two girls, but he did find the last statement of Hunter to be suspicious. “Vhy not join us then for this peaceful stroll…in fact, vhy not ve make a party of it?” Christolph’s voice was worded pleasantly enough, but something about his tone didn’t seem so friendly. “Oi! Du there!” He bellowed out to Max and Sonja like a father reprimanding his daughters. “Vant to join us for a stroll?” If it wasn’t so intolerably bright out, the large male would have undoubtedly chuckled as his own brash behavior.

David was starting to wonder why Christolph was so interested in these girls. He would never think anything bad of anybody, but it just seemed odd. Glancing back at Hunter, he crossed the street when there where no cars to be seen, and trotted up next to the hulk of a Germanic man, waving sheepishly at Max and Sonja. "Hello, you two...My friend, Christolph here, he's taken an interest in you, apparently." He chuckled halfheartedly. "We can all walk to the post office or something, right?" Despite David being a bit lonely as an old man, he was also somewhat of an introvert, and the bout of people around him was making him feel a bit antsy.... But there was some sort of little tickling telling him something in the back of his mind, he just didn't quite know it. Humans lie to themselves and others all the time-him no different. The tickling hinted at 'predators'. He pretended it wasn't there and smiled warmly at Max and Sonja, assuring them that Christolph was safe.

Hunter relaxed a little as the half-dragon and the regular girl came over. He never would've been able to take on that vampire all by himself, much as he hated to admit it. He was still a very young werewolf, but he knew enough to always recognize his weaknesses. Besides, this vampire looked strange. Not at all like the modern vampires, who liked to reside in rainy areas in northern Europe among the humans (and therefore looked exactly like them). This vampire looked...old. Very old. And creepily similar to that younger vampire he had fought a few years ago. It had gone on a killing massacre, taken by the bloodlust. He shuddered. He still had terrible scars from that battle. But it was better than losing.

Sonja's eyes flicked to the man who had called out to them and a wary expression crossed her face, but then she smiled affably and said, "Why not? It's a nice day for a walk." She glanced at Max. "You coming?" Her friend shrugged. "Sure, whatev. I'm not doing anything else to day."

Christolph stole a glance at his reflection in a nearby shop window (yes he had one), and came to the dreaded conclusion that he probably seemed like a giant creeper to these girls…something not helped by David’s comment. “An interest based solely on cultural acclimation. I am a bit…behind in the times, und vould appreciate illumination.” He defended himself to those present almost scientifically, as if he were doing some field work. Christolph hoped that David would at least understand that he had no intention of preying on these girls…they weren’t sinful enough for his tastes. He personally preferred the bitter blood of lust and hatred; enjoying the flavor of those driven to their own selfish desires or those committing heinous crimes due to their intense anger. In many ways, Christolph was a paladin.

OOC:: Oh yes, their thoughts are probably far more similiar than they would either wish to admit :P

"Oh, okay," said Sonja with a relieved and cheerful smile. "The post office isn't far- just up a few blocks, and then turn left, and down maybe two more. You'll know it when you see it- it's a huge brick building with mismatched marble columns in the front and gigantic windows looking in. The whole building, inside and out, is basically like a mishmash of different styles of architecture."
