-Nile-
Nile sat, crouched next to the lake behind his home, pale yellow eyes on the water. He'd been watching the surface for hours. The sight of water made him happy, and he'd been rather unhappy lately. Narrowing his eyes, the halfling concentrated. It was easy now, to manipulate the water. It used to be so difficult. Now it was natural as breathing. Slowly, an orb of water rose from the lake. Captured in the circlet of liquid, was a minnow. Nile smiled at the tiny fish, and the water ball burst, sending the minnow back to the lake where it swam to rejoin its school.
-Rebeca-
Rebeca, violet eyes focused, was scanning the page of one of her books. It wasn't a book you'd find most people with- it wasn't a fiction tale or cookbook, not even a bibliography. It was a guide to knives, daggers, and other short, sharp weapons. She was fiercely concentrated, so when her mother peaked into the room and said, "Beca, have you finished filling out collage forms? You're already many months behind on them!" Beca narrowed her eyes and looked up. Sure, she was supposed to go to collage next year. But she'd been so busy with this series of Knives, how could she focus on something like that? With a sigh, she set the book down. "No, mom. I'll do that now." When her mother left, Beca stood up carefully on her bed and opened the window above it, and climbed out. Her room was only a foot or two from the ground, so she had no problem getting outside. Once out, she dusted her jeans off and started off toward the park, book in hand.
-Chance "Moose"-
"Moose! What are you doing?" Chance looked up from where he sat in a chair, paintbrush in hand. He had blue, red, and other colors of paint all over, from his shorts to in his hair, and even a smudge on his glasses. How it had gotten everywhere, no one would ever figure out- somehow, he always managed to get things like paint all over. "Painting!" Chance called back, recognizing his cousin's voice. What did Check want? His cousin was three years younger than him, and always seemed to be able to find Chance, even when he tried to hide in the attic and paint. "What do you want?"
Check's blonde head, hair matching Chance's almost perfectly in shade, appeared through the attic door in the floor. "Oh, wow. You got that everywhere, dude."
Chance rolled his eyes. "I know."
"Oh, well. Uncle Gorden wants you to come down now." Check frowned. "He'll be ang-"
"I know, I know." Chance had lost patience with his younger cousin about a year ago. He had little patience for most things, which usually included painting, though he'd actually managed to sit for an hour and a half and paint. What he was working on was one of the halflings he'd seen in the store yesterday- green wings, long black hair, talons like silver ice, eyes sharp amber. He was extremely curious about those strange beings, and was good at painting them. But it was only about half done, and he was getting bored. He'd have to finish later. "Tell dad I'm coming"
