Pepper Ridge (No Longer Accepting)

"Thanks," she said. She spooned a mouthful into her face and sighed as the warmth made her stomache come alive. She had the dish gone in a matter of minutes and a smile on her face. "Wow, did that help my mood!" She laughed softly, like small Christmas bells.

Kylar nodded as he finished eating his portion, he closed his eyes as he forced himself to swallow the last spoonful. He smiled faintly at her, it was barely there, "Well hopefully you don't get as aggressive this time." he told her.

"Hopefully you don't stick your emotionless head up your emotionless ass and draw the aggression outa me again," she said, but she was smiling at him now as she drank in what little meaning she could find in the faint smile she saw him sporting.

"Ah, blaming others for our anger now?" Kylar asked with a soft chuckle, he studied her face for a moment, "When did you get that necklace?" he asked her curiously.

Aria rolled her eyes at him and was about to chirp a clever retort when he asked her about her necklace. Her hand flew to the trinket in a fluid, practiced motion. "My necklace has stayedon or with me since I..." her eyebrows drew together, much like Rachelle's often did, as she seemed to think back. "Well... actually, I don't remember how long it's been. Since before Rachelle, for sure. Perhaps when I left my family. I believe my mother may have given it to me." The girl was a truely gifted actress to have pulled off the lie as perfectly as she had. She fingered the warm metal until the edges became cool and then let it hang back against her. "It's very dear to me," she said thoughtfully.

Kylar shook his head and looked at her, "I do nt believe that.| he told her as he sat there silently and stuied her face.

Aria laughed, unsurprised. "You say that like I would pretend to have any measure of influence regarding what you'd believe," she said with an indifferent shrug. She smiled a small, secretive smile at him as a friendly way of saying 'don't go there just yet.'

He watched her and nodded, he laid on the bed and closed his eyes, yawning softly. He never slept well, and he doubted he would sleep well tonight.

Aria set herself to work cleaning up. Without her realizing, she began to hum a lullaby she used to sing constantly. Soon she was softly sweeping through the lyrics, her beautiful voice soft and sweet and still quiet.

Kylar fell asleep, smiling softly as he listened to her, he began to snore softly as he slipped into an even deeper sleep. For the first time in a very long time he actually was beginning to sleep well.

The lullaby ended with a final long, hopeful note and she sighed, smiling softly. She sat down at the table and soo nher own eyes shut.
