[The Plague Doctor]

"My mind is dark, yet light. I live in day, but for the night. I am weak, yet strong. Life seems short, but still I stand tall. I am free, never contained, and my spirit can't be tamed. I am a wolf; forever wild, forever free." Zach whispered, saying the old poem that had been passed through his family for generations. He looked over at Leah, seeing her eyes alight. He laughed in pure joy at life, sharing his happiness with the night sky. He dared another look over at Leah. "Hey, you wanna see something?" he asked, a mischevious sparkle to his eyes and a tilted smile on his lips. Before she could answer, he sprang to his feet, and went to the edge of the trees. He waved her over, and leaned against the tree, waiting.

She smiled lightly and followed happily.

Zach led her deeply into the forest, following the stream. Finally, he pulled her to a stop. He looked down at the deep plunge of the waterfall, and led her carefully down the mossy rocks untill they reached the pool at the bottom. It was just as he remembered it, alight with moonlight, crystal clear, and refreshingly misty. He led her to the place where the sheet of water met the rock, and walked behind it. It got to a point where the water was impassable. He simply tapped a rythm on a almost invisible keypad, and the flow moved ever so slightly out of the way, just enough for them to pass. He entered, and flipped on the lights. He smiled slightly, looking around his real home, as it always would be. He looked around the huge main cave that had natural forming rock steps that led to two higher balconies. On all three levels were tunnels that led off in various directions. He looked at the livingroom-like appearance of the main cave on one side, and the kitchen and dining area on the other. His gaze swept over the pictures on some of the bookshelves, showing pictures of friends, family, and various other things. It wasn't dreary and wet like you'd think; it was warm, comfortable, and modern mixed with elegant. The stone floors were draped in fuzzy or elegant carpets, and parts were even tiled in beautiful designs. About five seconds later, a barrage of furry dodiies knocked ghim to the ground. He laughed and squirmed, trying to free himself from the tongues and large paws of a husky, a lion, a tiger, and a panther. "Jeez! Get off, you guys! Ew, Track, you need a breath mint! And Chase, watch the claws!" He laughed again, and managed to hop up.

She smiled and laughed helping him up.

"Thanks," he said using her hand to haul himself up. He looked at the huge masses of fur around him. He scratched each of their ruffs, and went to the large stainless steel fridge to the side of the kitchen. He hauled open the door and grabbed four large slabs of meat, stuck them in the oven for a minute, then tossed them to the animals. He looked at Leah. "Do you want anything?" he asked gesturing towards the fridge.

Honestly she wanted his blood badly but said nothing smiled at him and shook her head.

Zach nodded in understanding, already knowing what she was thinking. "You know, all you have to do is ask," he whispered.

She looked at him she was dying to bite him but didn't know how to ask, she opened her mouth to ask but didn't know to say it, "can I?" she asked.

Zach nodded, and held out his arms to her. He gave her a gentle reassuring smile.

She walked to him and wrapped her arms around him in a hug she was so tempted but didn't, "Your shure?" she asked again.
