"Mutants in Manhattan" What a Headline! (TMNT 2012 RP; Open)

Ever since they were young, four brothers have lived in complete and utter secrecy. They didn't have much of a choice--the world wouldn't react well to four giant teenage mutant ninja turtles hiding out in their sewers and subways. The consequences of ever being discovered would be catastrophic; their home, their master, and everything they ever cared about would be in jeopardy. If the world were to find out about them, they would be hunted down and shot, or worse, taken to a lab and experimented on. And so, they lived in the shadows.

Until now.

New York has caught on that humans are no longer the only intelligent beings in this city. More and more people are discovering the truth, and now not only is the entire Hamato Clan in trouble, but all of mutantkind. Their exposure has made it harder and harder to fight Shredder and other likeminded criminals. Lately the mutants have had to direct all of their focus on laying low, especially now that the army itself is after them, intent on capturing them and eliminating the mutant "threat." The city is gripped by fear, and there is nothing a people will not do, no lengths to which they will not go nor depths to which they will not sink, out of fear and fear alone.

Why does everything I write turn into a textbook...

Nevertheless, please pay close attention to these rules, I will enforce them. Furthermore, I'm sorry in advance if I sound harsh, I just want to make sure I'm perfectly clear:

1.) Tess's rules apply.
2.) Keep genders even.
3.) You must play at least one canon character. Please don't try to tell me that "oh I'm going to suck at playing a canon character"; even if that's true, in my eyes having a poorly-portrayed Master Splinter is better than no Master Splinter at all. Plus, chances are you're going to be better at it than you think. Thank you for understanding!
4.) We will not start the RP until we have all 4 turtles.
5.) Listen, please: DO NOT JOIN IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE TO DROP OUT A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS INTO THE RP. I understand that life can get busy unexpectedly and that CS isn't a priority, but this is still a commitment that you sign up for, and when you drop out you make it extremely inconvenient for everyone else. That's exactly the kinda thing that kills off RPs in the early stages and I want none of that here. Taking leaves of absence or not being able to post as frequently are fine, but please don't just outright drop the RP altogether.
6.) No Mary/Gary-Sues, godmode or powerplay, I mean it! I would prefer if most OCs weren't at a higher skill level than the Turtles when it comes to ninjutsu. Even having them on the same level is stretching it. Just keep in mind that the Turtles have been training practically their entire lives to be ninja, whereas the vast majority of New Yorkers have not.
7.) Your OCs aren't allowed to start out knowing where the Lair is. If you want them to be an ally to the Turtles please PM me about it, but also know that I can't allow just any OC to know about the Lair. They are ninja after all.
8.) This isn't a literate RP per se, but you have to post at least 3 sentences, and that should be for when you're having writer's block or a bad day. Also try to use proper punctuation, grammar and spelling etc., but I understand if your phone is deciding to be a butt. :3
9.) You can make your own form or use the one provided, as long as it has all the essentials!
10.) No crushing on yourself.
11.) Kindly post all forms on the DISCUSSION THREAD!
12.) HAVE FUN!


*I know all those rules made it seem like I hate OCs but I promise I don't. I love OCs when they're well-done. I think OCs can make an RP very interesting, but it's easy for them to get out of hand and so I need to regulate them to a certain extent.

It was usually a safe bet to wager that Donatello was in his lab during down time, be it working on another batch of retromutagen or drawing up plans for a nifty new machine. Such was the case now—he was poring over research, every now and then clearing space on his cluttered workbench. There wasn't much else to do nowadays anyhow, not since New York had become aware that there were mutants among them. They had to lay low; patrolling had become significantly more dangerous, and chancing a sprint across rooftops wouldn't help matters. This wasn't much of a problem for Donnie; he had a remarkably high tolerance for staying cooped up in one place for extensive periods of time, and was more than capable of keeping himself occupied with any number of scientific pursuits. It was his brothers that he worried about. Chances were that at least one of them would go stir-crazy before the night's end, which meant loud noises and crashes and disturbances...not that this didn't already happen, but it could only get worse from here on out. And it was not easy to work in those conditions. Heaving a sigh at that, Donnie slumped into his chair, narrowing his eyes at a bubbling vial of liquid and swishing it around a bit.

Perks of cutting your hair short? It doesn't blow around in your face all the live long day. Link remembered, that was the one thing she had hated about her hair back when it was long. It was always falling in her face, completely impractical. Eventually she had started pulling the rosy pink strands into a ponytail, until even that became tedious, and she finally resorting to lopping it all off altogether. Now she no longer had to worry about the wind stirring it up. Unfortunately, she could not say the same for the newspaper in her hand. It flapped wildly so that when she finally managed to wrestle it down, pin it and spread it across the roof on top of which she was perched, the alien girl was huffing in annoyance. Her eyes scanned the headline, and she bit her lower lip nervously.

ᴍᴜᴛᴀɴᴛꜱ ɪɴ ᴍᴀɴʜᴀᴛᴛᴀɴ?

Naturally, the article went on to state how these mutants were "dangerous", how the army was doing everything in their power to apprehend them, how citizens were advised to stay indoors as often as possible. Sure, mutants were dangerous, but they were talking about them in this article as though they were all the same! As if they all had malicious intent. Some did, but not all. That was like saying all aliens were evil--which, Link could say from personal experience, was not true. She drew her leather jacket closer around her, narrowing her eyes at the article and running a slender pink finger under the words to keep her place. She was crouched at the very ledge of a rooftop, overlooking a wide street. She could just barely read by the dim light of the street lamps, which was not ideal, but better than finding some place brighter and risking being spotted. While she didn't necessarily look like a mutant, she looked strange, and she knew drawing attention to herself at a fearful time like this was not ideal.

Boredom had begun to become physically painful. At first, with the whole 'mutants are everywhere bring out the stakes', Raphael was all for hiding out. Sure, he may have protested a bit with the decisions - appearances and all that, but, inwardly, he knew that it was the best decision for the time being, for the wellbeings of his brothers. Then, hours began to tick away at the clock, and his patience - an already fragile thing - began to wane. He could only punch the sand out of a punching bag and dominate his brothers in spars a certain amount of times before even it began to bore him from repetition. Screw the stupid people who feared what they didn't even know. He wanted to feel the fresh wind on his face, the rain drops on his skin, and the hot, greasy double-decker pizza sitting in his stomach. He wanted to leap across rooftops and stretch his legs, not slowly wilt away in the sewers day after day.

Subconsciously, Raph growled, slamming an annoyance-powered fist into the punching bag, tearing the chain off of the ceiling and sending the leather-bound sack flying into the wall with a resounding crash. The wall, which just so happened to be right on the other side of Donnie's laboratory. Raph exhaled slowly, lowering his fist. He needed to calm down...master his emotions, like what both Leo and Master Splinter constantly told him. Use his anger for something useful, like traini-


Angry emerald eyes stared at the fallen punching bag, a tear leaking sand all over his bedroom's floor. Frickin'-


"Donnie!" Raph yelled, eyes twitching as he turned around and moodily stomped out of his room. What to do when you felt like punching in somebody's face? Go and see what your nerdy brother was working on. At least, the ramblings would eat up some time.

"3..." Donnie poured the liquid into a larger beaker, where it mixed, fizzled and popped. "...2--"
BANG. Smack against the wall of his lab. Thud.
"...1." He sighed, glancing down at the droplets he'd just spilt over his papers from being startled by the sudden noise, even though he had been, in a way, expecting it.

"Donnie!"

His hand smothered his face until his purple mask disappeared almost entirely behind the green skin. And so it begins. "What did you break this time, Raph?" he intoned sarcastically, glancing at the door through which he could hear his brother calling. Sighing for the third time in five minutes, he stood up, chair skittering backwards as he did so, and embarked on his quest for the materials he would need to clean up the chemical mess now sizzling on his desktop.
