Yugioh ZEXAL: A New Utopia (Plot up!)

Regina wondered where Kim was leading them as she followed the other two students away fro the duel filled yard back towards the school. Weather or not this could be considered skipping class was in the eyes of the beholder. Normal classes had been canceled for the day in favor of the day long dueling session, not that the trio was likely to get caught anyway with the ruckus they were leaving behind. The staff was much too preoccupied being decent hosts to notice a few students not in attendance. "Take my advice. Don't let her insane energy levels fool you before you fall for it.", Regina warned, "We've been friends since our first day here together and she isn't as childish as she seems."

Kim led her classmates through the school building, up several flights of stairs, and out onto the roof. There was a wide, flat space atop the school, which Kim had found an ideal spot for off-the-books dueling. The chances of discovery were minimal, unless people started summoning dragons. Even then, the duels below were likely absorbing everyone's attention. "All right!" She proclaimed, standing off to one side and facing Kio and Regina, "The duel between Kio Silvers and Regi Tsukumo will now commence! Activate your duel disks!" In her mind, she'd be the referee for this match, though really all she'd be doing is running commentary into a fake microphone and cheering both participants on. It was something she did a lot, even in her own duels.

It made sense that the roof would be the perfect place to duel without prying eyes throwing off the two duelists. He just didn't think anyone would lead them to such an obvious place after making the location sound so mysterious. "Duel Gazer, on. Duel disk, activate." Kio swiftly placed his black duel gazer on and slid his deck into its slot of his duel disk. Speaking of which, said disk had a rather simplistic design, black being the primary color with dark blue lining it. Yet for all this simplicity, half of it had a batwing design while the other half was like any regular duel disk. "If you do not mind, I would like to start the ballad of our duel."

Two screens showed up bearing the 4000 life points of each duelist. "Be my guest.", said Regina watching Kio with a careful gaze,"Your move."

"Draw." Looking at his cards, Kio had to admit that it was not the best start. Well, not the best in a relative manner of speaking. There were always better hands to draw, but this one was useful nonetheless. "I will start things off by activating the field spell Ghostrick Mansion." Kio was quite familiar with the change in their surroundings, a mansion rising up around them as they stood in a drawing room. It was rather dilapidated in appearance, the cobwebs and tattered curtains creating an eerie atmosphere. "Next, I will set one monster facedown along with a trap. It is your turn, Regi. This haunting balad of tricks and twists has begun."

A slight chill traveled involuntarily up the girl's spine as the ruined room of the mansion replaced their rooftop battlefield. This could present a problem. While a fan of manipulating the field to her own advantage this wasn't one whose effects she was familiar with or gave her own monsters any kind of advantage. Obviously that would have to be fixed but the card she needed to do that wasn't with her at the moment. She'd need to buckle down and get through it for now. "Then it's my draw! Get ready for your first lesson on the house!", Regina removed the top card from her deck and eyed it before setting it into her hand for a different card,"I summon Ameba to the field in attack mode! Normally this monster is pretty weak but if I add the Equip Spell Hydro Pressure Cannon to it, my little formless friend gets a powerboost!" A gelatinous blue blob appeared on the girl's side of the field. Once on the field, a cannon that looked to have a design reminiscent of sea shell material attached to the blob-like monster. "Now Ameba! Attack that mystery monster and send it to the abyss!", ordered the green haired student as the equipped monster released a blast of water towards Kio's facedown monster card.

Kio smirked when Ameba's attack suddenly redirected itself to the only target it could find, which was to say it redirected itself to Kio himself. "Unfortunately, monsters in facedown defense mode have a nasty habit of being able to easily get lost in Ghostrick Mansion. As a result, if all one of us controls is facedown defense position monsters, any attack on them becomes a direct attack instead. Now that your monster is attacking me directly, I activate the effect of Ghostrick Jackfrost from my hand." A small snowman dressed all in blue winter wear appeared in front of Kio, stopping the blast of water in its hands. "When a monster attacks me directly, Jackfrost appears to freeze them in their tracks and force them into facedown defense position. Afterwards, he takes to the field and hides himself in facedown defense position." The first trick of the game had been played, and there would be no treat following for her.

So in simplest terms attacking Kio himself was pointless because it would only be stopped and her attacking monster switched to a facedown defense monster instead. Normally that wouldn't be such an issue and could be delt with by ridding the field of Jackfrost. Unfortunately the creepy room the young duelists were in made targeting any of the boy's monster's tough because the attack would redirect back to Kio himself. "You made a giant defensive loop.", said the green haired girl,"Not bad, good thing I didn't actually expect to destroy your monster or I'd be really disappointed right now. All I have to do is find a hole in the loop. For now though I place a card face down and end my turn.", Regina set a single card facedown on her duel disk and then stood back and waited for her opponent's next action.

"Unfortunately, Jackfrost only had the ability to use his ability once. Be sure there are more like him, though. My turn. Draw." Already his monsters were building themselves up, and he already had one of the keys on the field. "I will now flip summon my Jackfrost to the field, and he will be followed by Ghostrick Jiangshi." As the snowman returned from where he was, a hopping zombie entered the drawing room. "When Jiangshi enters the battlefield by being flipped face-up, he adds one of his friends from my deck to my hand whose level is equal to the number of Ghostrick monsters on the field. Right now, that is a level 2, and the friend he's calling forth will join Jackfrost and Jiangshi on the field." Right after adding a card to his hand, Kio summoned a cute witch to the field. "Say hello to Ghostrick Witch(Lv. 2 1200ATK/200DEF)."

"If you're planning to Xyz Summon it's not going to work with three monsters all with different levels.", Regina reminded the male duelist raising an eyebrow at the set up. This was definitely starting to get interesting. What was Kio planning?
