Yugioh ZEXAL: A New Utopia (Plot up!)

"Too bad Xyz summoning is what I do best, not doing as I'm told! I overlay all three of my level three Starfish and use them to build the Overlay Network!", replied the female duelist as all three named monsters transformed into blue energy. A swirling hole opened up on the field which the monsters proceeded to dive into. "I Xyz summon rank three Tri-Edge Levia(attk-1800, defense-1500, rk- 3)!, shouted the girl. At Regina's announcement a bipedal fish warrior rose up from the swirling hole clad in a suit of armor. Circling the new monster were the transformed Starfish in the form of yellow lights that were now Overlay Units, a trident rest in the new monster's grip. "With Levia now on the field I'll end my turn. Your turn Fate.", said Regina awaiting her opponent's move.

"I draw." As expected, he had started with the perfect opening monster in his hand. The card he had just drawn was the perfect protection. "I will start my turn by summoning Madolche Anjelly to the field." A small fairy appeared on the field, a crown of what seemed to be candy pearls on her head. Anjelly sat on a piece of gelatin shaped like a puzzle piece, and she was indeed part of a much larger puzzle. "Of course, Anjelly will not be sticking around for long. I activate her special ability, which allows me to tribute her in order to summon any Madolche from my deck so long as I shuffle it back into my deck at the end of my next turn. The best part is that whatever monster I summon with her effect cannot be destroyed by battle."

"So which monster are you going to summon then?", asked Regina.

"Please give a cordial welcoming to Madolche Hootcake." The fairy from before lifted up her puzzle piece jelly, holding it out in front of her before disappearing. Her energy transformed the jelly into a portal from which came an owl with a pancake hat that carried with it a puzzle piece made from a piece of cake. With it came several smaller owls that almost looked like gumdrops, likely her children. "Of course,she will not stay alone for long, as Hootcake has the ability to special summon another Madolche monster from my deck so long as I banish a monster from my graveyard."

Sorry but I'm not about to give up control of the field to you so easily! By using one of Levia's overlay units, one monster on the field looses 800 attack points and has their special abilities negated until the end of the turn! Which means your Hootcake not only stays single, but also no longer attack my monster because she'll just be destroyed!", Regina explained as her monster's eyes glowed,"Go Triple Wave Restraint!" The fish warrior pointed his trident towards the owl-like monster on Fate's field and it began giving off pulses of energy. Three rings of water formed around the Maldoche creature, hoovering there briefly before rushing in towards it.

"You know, I am thankful for one thing. Not only are you quite skilled, but you also walked straight into my trap. I activate the effect of Effect Veiler from my hand. By sending it to the grave, I can now negate one monster's effects until the end of the turn. So your Tri-Edge Levia will now lose its abilities." Before the three rings of water could reach Hootcake, an androgynous being appeared on the field and absorbed the rings into its misty wings before shattering. Even though Effect Veiler shattered, its wings moved to cover the fish warrior, which would thus sap it of its abilities for the turn. The best part was that he would no longer need to banish Anjelly from the graveyard, which was a good thing as she could play a role in the future of the duel.

Regina didn't expect this duel to be an easy one but was sure she had been prepared enough to deal with the young man's possible actions with her water monster's ability. Instead though Fate had pulled a switch on her and nullified her nullifying of his monster's effect. The upside was Effect Veiler's powers only lasted for a single turn, meaning a recovery from this blunder was possible.

"So as I was saying, I activate the effect of Madolche Hootcake. By banishing the Effect Veiler you so kindly helped me place in my graveyard, I can special summon one Madolche monster from my deck to the field. Please give a cordial welcoming to the royal who will now take the stage, Madolche Puddingcess(Level 5, 1000ATK/1000DEF)." The wingless form of the androgynous monster appeared for a moment before becoming a portal. Out from that portal came a princess on another puzzle piece made of cake. She wore a dress that gave off the appearance of a domed cake with what looked to be frosting rather than frills. Around her on the puzzle piece lay of multitude of fancy puddings. "Next, I activate the spell card Madolche Ticket. Once per turn, whenever a Madolche monster is sent from my field or graveyard back to my hand or even to my deck by a card effect, I can add one Madolche monster from my deck to my hand. However, were I to control a Fairy-type Madolche monster such as Puddingcess, that monster is instead special summoned to my field." In an instant, a letter appeared hovering in the air behind Fate's monsters. There was just one last piece of the puzzle to play. "Finally, I wish to welcome you to the kingdom of sweets, a palace so rich in flavor it will leave you speechless. Behold the field spell Madolche Chateau. This card will grant all my Madolche monsters an extra 500 ATK and DEF. Here's the real kicker. When Madolche Chateau appears on the field, it allows me to shuffle every Madolche monster in my graveyard back into my deck. I think you can tell where this is going now."

Regina could indeed see where Fate was going with his set up. It didn't take a Pro Duelist to see the duo of attacks coming her way with his field organized in such a way. Still, even so there was a way the girl could come out of this with a fighting chance and it all hinged on which side of a double edge sword the young man choose to go with. Both duelist a had two monsters on the field at the moment.....she had Tri Edge Levia and Tripod Fish, while her fellow student had Puddingcess and Hootcake. The male student had to be careful thoug because there were two possible options before him.

Now option one was Hootcake attacking her Xyz monster which, would destroy it, but deal just 200 points of damage. Then Fate could follow that up by having Puddincess attack Tripod which would, again, destroy her monster and deal a heavier 1200 points of damage. This move seemed ideal but, if pulled off, on Regina's next turn it could always be special summoned at which point it's special ability would raise the level of whatever monster the teen normal summoned by one. Hence setting up the stage for another Xyz summoning.

Option two was just as problematic as the first was. If Puddingcess attacked Tri-Edge Levia, it would be destroyed even with a bolster in attack points from the surgery field spell's effect. On top of that the female monster would then be banished instead of going to her opponent's graveyard. Then Hootcake could destroy the remaining Tripod and deal her a fair amount of damage, but the fish's effect and the results would still stand.

The question was which one was the lesser sharp side of the blade?

"The first step is when Anjelly returns to my deck due to Chateau's effect." A castle began to rise up behind Fate, one that seemed to be made completely from sweets such as cake and jellies and even frosting. It truly seemed to suit the theme of the Madolches rather well in that regard. As the castle rose, Anjelly was returned back into the young duelist's deck. "This activates Madolche Ticket, which would normally allow me to add a Madolche monster to my hand since Anjelly was returned to my deck by a card effect. However, Puddingcess calls the monster to her immediately. Give a warm welcome to Madolche Messengelato." The letter that hovered directly behind Fate's monsters suddenly opened and sent out a puzzle piece that seemed to be made from a wafer. This puzzle piece had a mailbox made from sweets on it. Then, from out of the castle, came a blue-haired messenger with a red coat and large cap. "Here's the real kicker for you. Since I no longer have any monsters in my graveyard, Puddingcess gains an extra 800ATK, leaving her at 2300ATK. I did warn you not take me lightly. Puddingcess will now attack your Tripod Fish."
