"I draw." with one move, this boy had essentially shut down the rider's deck. Fortunately, she'd drawn into just the card she needed. She wasn't even sure if she was allowed to use it here, but it didn't really matter. This wasn't a tournament duel, there were no stakes to be had. This was fuel for the fire, and she needed to get burning again. "I activate the spell card Raigeki," she said, as storm clouds formed above the duel. "Unless your trap card does something, this spell destroys all monsters on your side of the field."

"It isn't a trap, but it will stop Raigeki all the same. I activate the quickplay spell My Body as a Shield. By paying 1500 of my lifepoints, I can use my body to protect the future I have seen." Nobody ever said sacrifices went without pain, but Fate was more than willing to protect his own monsters with his body. That was what it took to protect the bright futures brought about, that was what he had been taught to do.

"If I didn't know better," the rider said, "I'd call you a hypocrite. I summon T.G. Catapult Dragon in attack mode." Really, protecting the future? How many people had tried and failed to do that? "Thanks to TGX300, Hyper Librarian's attack is now boosted to three thousand. Now, I'll take out your monster the old fashioned way." Or she'd try to, she assumed that the boy's face down monster would stop her somehow. "Hyper Librarian, attack Tarotrei!"

"Not so fast. I activate Tarotrei's special ability. With this, I can change one monster on the field from facedown defense to faceup attack. The monster I flip is Prediction Princess Petalelf. This activates Petalelf's effect, which switches all faceup attack position monsters on your field to defense position. Furthermore, every monster that has its position changed by this effect will remain in that position until they leave the field." In the end, it did not matter how strong the competition was, how great the odds he needed to overcome. Hypocrite though he might be for protecting the future while altering it through his own actions, his actions were such that he would protect the best future and ensure it came to pass.

"Very well," the rider said, "I place one card face down and end my turn. It was to be expected. The Prediction Princesses excelled at controlling the battlefield, even more that her own cards did. Perhaps some conversation would be in order, it seemed they would be here a while. "Tell me, exactly which future do you think you're protecting?"

"Draw." Which future was he protecting? Now that was a difficult question to answer. Simply saying he wanted to protect the brightest future was not enough, was too broad a concept. There was really only one answer that seemed sufficient enough to satisfy his desires. "I protect a future where everyone can make their own choice, where they alone have the right to determine where their road takes them. Even though I know people will make mistakes, these mistakes help them grow as individuals. I set one card face down and activate Tarotrei's second ability again, this time to set Petalelf into face down defense position."

"But what if that freedom only engenders a greater tyranny?" the rider asked. What if the future you create itself generates a worse future?" It was a rather strange question, but one of importance to the rider. She'd never met a clairvoyant whose third eye wasn't tragically myopic.

"I want to believe that such a future can be avoided. Even if that happens, there will be those who rise to fight against the darkness. A future of hope will always exist, and te Tredwells will always be there to guide it from the shadows. Now I end my turn, at which point Tarotrei's ability activates and allows me to special summon another flip monster from my hand or grave. I choose Prediction Princess Astromorrigan." What a strangeduel this was turning out to be with all the talk of the future and what Fate wanted to protect. It was true that corruption lay dormant within every individual, but that did not mean tey needed to give in to it.

"Tredwell," the rider mused. She knew the name, of course, but only in passing. She'd read of it once, but only once. "How ironic that a family so obsessed with the future would impact it so little. I draw." another potentially helpful card. A bit more temporary and situational, but still. "I activate the Book of Moon spell card," the rider said, "and I'll target your Tarotrei with it." It was in her deck as a defense, a way to protect her weaker non-synchro monsters, but it would hopefully prove beneficial here.

There went the lockdown on his oppone t's special summoning, though it would certainly not be the end of the duel by a longshot. So long as he had monsters, Fate had a chance. He had only needed to shut down her swift summoning long enough to bring forth the monsters that could incite victory with the infinite loop. He had done that much thanks to his ace. "You may be able to special summon once more, but do not assume it creates victory for you. Just as Tarotrei was overcome by a single card, so too can a single card overcome you in the end.
