Darren smiled.
"I'd like that, but... Err but..." He trailed off. He wanted to go really badly, but he had to go to school and leave a good impression on his new foster mom and dad. Cutting class was a good excuse not to get adopted and be stuck back in an orphanage.
"I'm sorry," He ended, his face burning a furious red.

Jemima checked the clock on the microwave and gave a little gasp. She was late! Again... Jemima wolfed the rest of her waffles down and grabbed her school stuff by the door. "Bye Mom!" she called before going outside and heading towards the bus stop. When Jemima reached it, she slowed slightly. Two people were already there and conversing. She didn't want to interrupt and be rude, but she also didn't want to look like an idiot just standing there. So Jemima shrugged and walked the rest of the way. She smiled at the two. "Hello," she murmured quietly. "I'm Jemima. Who are you guys?"

"Darren," He said, his face still flushed with embarassment. He smiled quickly, then looked down at his hands.

Justin went to the bus stop, knowing he would be late, but not really caring. Really, who would yell at him? His parents? Justin clenched his fists so hard the knuckles turned white. He knew if he took the bus he would probably blow up at someone, so he decided to walk instead. As he passed the bus some weird dude got in his way (Darren). Justin saw an opportunity and took it. As he passed the kid, Justin shouldered him so hard it almost hurt. Almost.

Darren winced and sat down again, leaning against his tree, not wanting to get into trouble. No, he couldn't get into fights or ditch school or do anything but his best if he wanted Mrs. Giniheim and her husband to adopt him for the next year or so he'd be in school.

Justin whipped around, a smirk lighting his face, fists still clenched, knuckles still ghostly white. Anyone who got in his way better have a good reason. As thoughts of the crash came forth, his stormy gray eyes darkened. Fast. His knuckles went even whiter as he tensed. "What's wrong, you little wimp?! Afraid to fight?", he growled.

"Not afraid at all," Darren said icily. He kept his temper in check, though he clenched his fists so hard they cracked. Oh he could hold his own in a fight. He'd spent most of his early childhood in a terrible neighborhood. He could fight.

Justin let a harsh laugh escape. "Yeah, I bet!", he rolled his eyes. He had heard the crack of the dude's knuckles. He hit something.

Darren proceeded to ignore him and took out his sketchbook and started drawing.

"Hey Sketch! If ya want something to draw, draw this!", he yelled, as his fist connected with Darren's face.
