Kalie winced and laid one hand on her left hip, having taken a good kick to the side when the man had attacked her. She sighed and then heard the faint sound of a police siren, speeding up her pace and beginning to limp down the sidewalk. Kalie pulled her hood up over her face and then turned her head away from the street, four police cars roaring past her and paying the girl no heed.
As the last police car drove by, it rear tires sent a newspaper flying through the air and it smacked against Kalie's face, making the girl stumble back in surprise. Kalie cursed under her breath and then yanked the paper off of her face, clenching the newspaper tightly in her hand. An advertisement drew her eye and she unfolded the paper to read it, scanning her eyes across the paper.
"Puppies, huh?" Kalie thought aloud, one of her eyebrows arching as she continued to read. She pursed her lips together; she was in good need of a new dog and a puppy would be easy to train. Kalie tore the advertisement from the paper and then began to walk off in the direction of the address written on the ad, limping down the road at a steady pace.
