Ryker flashed a warning glare at Damien when he saw a dangerous glint in his eyes. Obviously, like he thought, this kid wouldn't give up. He taunted Ryker, taking a final drag on his cigarette before flicking it to the ground. Ryker clenched his fists as Damien started towards him, not stopping until their noses almost touched. Ryker nearly choked on the acrid smell as Damien blew the smoke of his last drag right in his face. He told Ryker that while Lyra was his sister, she was his girlfriend whether she realized it or not. He said that he would make it clear to her soon, with deadly seriousness. As Ryker tried to imagine what horrible things he would do to his sister to 'make her realize' she was his girlfriend, he didn't notice Damien's hand flying towards him until it was too late for him to dodge it. His fist slammed into Ryker, sending him reeling. Ryker was strong, but against the insane senior with drugs and alcohol pumping through his body, Ryker was the underdog against Damein.
The blow to his face made Ryker black out for a second when he fell to the ground, but he almost instantly regained consciousness. When his vision cleared, it revealed his sister falling to the ground with her hands clenching her head. He scrambled to her side, but she didn't seem to notice his presence through the pain. "What did you do to her!" he shouted at Damien, beyond furious. His eyes were wide with horror and insurmountable rage. Thinking that it was Damien who had hurt Lyra, he wasn't about to let him get away with it. But before he could reach the red-haired senior, his look of horror intensified at the sound of his sister's agonized screams. He was shocked and frozen in place. He had never seen Lyra, let alone anyone, in that much pain. But his expression changed once more and his gut twisted from pure, raw fear, as Lyra's screams warped into feral, unrecognizable sounds that were by no means human.
Suddenly, he felt the need to bolt and run far, far away, despite his desperate desire to stay and protect his sister. He couldn't just leave her there with him, but at the same time, his muscles were screaming at him to run. Time began to slow immensely and Ryker's body quickly began to become unbearably cold. It felt as if he had frostbite on every inch of his body, inside and out. The demonic-sounding cries from Lyra had stopped finally and he could hear her moaning, but Ryker couldn't move. Even if ever fiber of his being was telling him to stay away from her, it was as if he was frozen to the ground. He did glance towards her though, and the sight of a massive white wolf lying where Lyra had been a moment ago was enough to unfreeze him, sending him scrambling to get away from her, shouting in fear. But when he opened his mouth and sound came out, a massive, intense pain explode in his head. His body went limp from the pain and he fell to the ground once more, clutching his head in his hands just like he saw Lyra do a few minutes before. He screamed in pain, but the sounds he thought were coming from his mouth didn't match at all with what his ears were hearing. He heard a high-pitched sound that resembled the cries of a spooked horse...a very, very spooked horse.
Sooner than he had expected, the pain subsided, the spasms stopped, and his body felt warm once more. Ryker scrambled to his feet by the still-present panic. Once he got up, however, he did nothing but stand there. He was not on his feet, but standing solidly on four sturdy legs belonging to a jet-black stallion. In front of him was a startling scene with Lyra standing over Damien, her jaws inches from his throat. She had an immensely intimidating snarl that showed her large, white fangs and although it made Ryker want to flee, he could also see a struggle inside of Lyra's eyes that seemed to be consuming her. Against his almost-overpowering sense of danger that the wolf presented, he ran to her side, marveling for just a second on how fluid and strong his movements were. 'I'm a horse, and Lyra, my sister, is a wolf' he thought, almost thinking he might be going insane right now. But a more pressing matter made him push away these semi-irrational thoughts as he noticed that whatever battle his sister was fighting, she wasn't winning it. "Lyra!" he called, producing a high-pitched roar instead of actual words. He had no idea whether or not she could understand hum, nor did he know what her struggle was, but he was going to help her if he could. Although he got no immediate response from his sister, he noticed, to his satisfaction, that Damien cringed even more at the intimidating sound that he had just made.
