Hannah smiled. "Yeah," she said, her mind trailing off. Ugh, how much I got made fun of there, she thought grimly. "Yeah I remember," Hannah added with a smile.

Jessie smiled and took the seat next to Eric, still holding his hand tightly. Even holding his hand made her think about the other girls Eric had flirted with, which made Jessica very uneasy. It was okay for him to talk to other girls but, to Jessica, whenever he flirted with other girls she got unnerved. At least it was only flirting, she told herself.

Tannor nodded, his smile starting to fade. He was remembering the few times he had seen Hannah. She had always been by herself, and kids were always talking about her behind her back. "Sorry we were such jerks." He sighed, knowing he had participated in some of that talking.

"It's okay," Hannah said, slurring the word 'okay'. "I know you guys just weren't used to it," she added, her smile fading because quite frankly, she had no idea if any of them were used to it or not.

Eric flipped a few strands of hair from his eyes and drummed his fingers on the table, waiting for class to start. Ever since he just thought about the flirting thing, guilt has started to set it. He sighed inwardly and thought to himself, I'll have to talk to her about that after school today.

Tannor frowned. "It doesn't matter if we were used to it, we shouldn't have said what we did!" "Mr. Erickson, Ms. Diaz, do you have something you want to tell the class?" Their teacher Mr. Thorn frowned at them.

Hannah's stomach sank as she felt everybody's eyes on them. Was she talking louder than she thought? "Sorry . . . I - I can't hear so I didn't see what you said," she said quietly, her face glowing red.

Jessie stared blankly at the teacher, pretending to listen until he caught Hannah and Tannor talking. "Sorry . . . I - I can't hear . . . " Jessica heard and immediately started giggling to herself. "What a lame excuse," she scoffed.

Tannor immediately pounced an the chance to get out of detention. "It's true. I was just explaining to her what you were saying." He lied. He would have to apologize to Hannah later for using her disability as an excuse, but she started it. He glared at Jessie. "And you wouldn't be saying that if you were deaf." He snapped at her. Mr. Thorn sighed. "I'm sorry Hannah, I will try to be conscious of that in the future. Mr. Erikson, that is no way to speak to your classmate! I expect to see you in detention later." Tannor groaned inwardly. Mom was going to be so mad.

Hannah frowned at Jessie, clenching her teeth. She nodded to Mr. Thorn and turned to Tannor guilty. "I'm so sorry for getting you detention. . ." she whispered. "I'll have to find a way for me to be even with you. I'll just get myself detention or somethin'."

Jessie rolled her eyes. "Sure," she said to herself.
