Rayne sniffled, shaking her head at what Adelaide said. She heard Jasper clear his throat, and she whimpered pathetically. She slowly started to nod, biting her tongue. "Okay." Her lungs tightened again; something was wrong, she could tell. But what? After she pulled away from Adelaide, she whisked past Jasper and waited for those protests she knew would come. She turned and met Adelaide's gaze almost reluctantly, nodding. "Fine." She held Adelaide's hand in a limp hold, defeated and wary.
Jasper watched the two go, taking a step after them before he heeded Adelaide's meek words. It would be better for him to stay. Rayne was a girl, a woman now. She needed other women to talk to. Not her older brother. They weren't little children any more, playing knights and dragons in the vast yard. It was nearly time for both of them to get their lives really started. He left the hospital, hands in the pockets of his pants, and spent his time browsing through nearby shops and waiting.
