Amare felt as though he was running on automatic; Jacky's discovery of his treachery, her swift leaving for Summerland, and now Kyoko's hostage crisis had drained him of emotion; it was just too much to bear at once. So instead, that part of Amare had shut down for now, until what needed to be done was done; then would be the time for feeling things. Amare doubted he would ever be able to take down the Lorelei Lee; the Athena's Voyager was far from a fighting vessel these days. She had not seen service since the days of musketeer and cannonball, under Orpheus's orders or even the Crown's; but the age of cannon fire was long gone now. The Athena had been reduced to not so much as a fishing boat; a luxury vessel. But the Athena was still one of the fastest ships in the world, and Amare had learned well how to crew it himself. Perhaps he would not be able to take down the Lorelei Lee, but he could overtake her. And he could overtake Jacky herself by force, if it came to it. But he did not focus on that now; Amare had the sails up and the runner chain oiled, tying down the masts and angling the till back into the ocean. Back for Summerland. He cast a glance briefly back to the shore and saw Orpheus standing there, with Kyoko still under his gunpoint. And for that brief moment, the deepest of regrets showed in the mirrors of his eyes as he looked back at Kyoko.
Kyoko stumbled along out toward the dock. She kept tripping in fear and couldn't see well through all the tears.

"Oh. Sorry. I was just wondering." Daniella said, her grin fading to a tiny smile. She looked around, searching for more words.
