"It's.." I trailed off as I stuffed the handkerchief in my bag. I really needed to get to a doctor, but I couldn't pay for it. I had no medical insurance, and my parents couldn't pay for it, either. I got here by scholarship and financial aid. I didn't want to pay medical debt along with my student loan debt. "It's just the flu." I didn't know what to say. I was seriously ill; coughing up blood was not normal. But I wasn't comfortable with getting close to people, even under dire circumstance.

I entered the scanner into a small see through case and went to my computer to check everything I might even be done with it I took it out and scanned kimiko searching her stats of health and showed her.

I stared at the stats in horror. "I... I did everything to prevent this." Cancer. Lung cancer, specifically. Was there something wrong with the hazmat suits? "I can't pay for this. I can't pay for hospital bills and student loan debt." I felt like I was going to cry. But I held back the tears. I didn't like to cry in public.

"You know, I wish Callaghan never betrayed everyone like that. He would have listened to my complaints about the hazmat suits. But I continued with my research because science is important." I ranted, my eyes burning with unshed tears. I wanted to scream. "All my life I've loved the atom. I've always wanted to go to Geneva to work at the CERN supercollider, but now, now there's a possibility I'd never do that."

I took out the handkerchief to wipe my eyes, stuffing it back into my bag. I took a few deep breaths, but I couldn't get the choking feeling out of my throat. My mind was everywhere. I needed the money, but I had nowhere to go. And I didn't have a close, secure circle of friends like everyone else. No, I had casual friends and coworkers, but science always came first. No, it was the only thing for me.

I burst into the lab, wearing my mascot uniform. I saw Jordan--I call her Jordie--and Kimiko--I call her Pocky; I didn't know much about her, but I knew she definitely loved Pocky. "Hey Jordie!
