The driving was going to kill her, and surprisingly felt that she was almost okay with that. This was her fifth night on the road without stopping. She only had enough cash for gas and food and even that was running low. Her bank had been emptied and her old car impounded. Devin had been arrested for a lot before but that was the first time that she had been arrested for fraud. Unjustly, she might ad. Unlike most hunters she had met Devin stayed on the right side of the law as much as impossible. She was technically a cop. She'd gone through the basic training to be one and had held a job in the town of Boring, Oregon for about six months before she'd had to leave because of a case in Kentucky. The case that had nearly gotten her killed and would ruin her life unless she found someone to erase the records so that she could start working again and actually be able to sleep in a bed instead of the back seat of her car, the car she had taken back from the impound lot.
She groaned as she pulled into the town and saw the traffic. Naturally she'd have to pull into town at a busy time. Devin had been planning to bypass the town and sleep at the rest area fifty miles out but the rumbling of her stomach told her that wasn't the best idea for her right now. She pulled off to the side of the road and parked her dodge neon before stepping out of the car and looking around for a place to eat. She spotted a cute little cafe and let a grateful smile grace her lips as she walked across the street to the building.
Devin opened the door and had to stop right inside the entrance to yawn. She noticed a couple guys staring at her and glared at them before walking up to the counter so that she could place and order of one apple juice, an everything bagel, and an iced latte. Once her order was placed Devin found a table that was clean and not near other people. She sat down and rubbed her eyes before leaning her head on the table staring at the floor.
When the barista brought Devin her order she found herself barely able to offer the young woman a grateful smile. Devin frowned at her bagel, trying to remember what it was she was supposed to do with it before shrugging and eating the bagel plain. Once she had scarfed that down Devin quickly finished her apple juice. She gave a content sigh before turning her attention to the latte in front of her. Devin wasn't a big fan of coffee but she knew she was going to need some caffeine if she as going to survive until that night.
