"No! I want mommy!" he shrieked, yanking him arm away, still sobbing over the blood.
Maggie stepped forward, looking uncomfortable. "Um, Sarah, you might not want to frighten him...," she said awkwardly. Maggie had never been good with kids. She had been an only child, though truthfully not always. Before she was born, her mother had had another daugter, Erin, Maggie's older sister. But Erin had been diagnosed with leukimia at the age of three, and had later died at the age of five. Maggie's mother had been devastated, and had never meant to have Maggie so quickly. Her mother did not mention Erin often, but Maggie could see it in the way her mother looked at her, in the way her mother caressed the frame of Erin's picture on the mantel above the fireplace. Maggie would forever fall in the shadow of her dead sister in her mother's eyes; and suddenly Maggie was reminded very much of her missing sister in the the boy's blonde hair, boyish face, and bright blue eyes.
